I've been looking at a lot of screenshots and SOTDs lately - and a lot of them have no grids on it.

So I was wondering whether a lot of people ignore grids.

I use them quite a lot - I can't play without them now.

I hate grids, I can see very obviously where there is space and where there is not and it really clutters the screen and makes the map look hidious

Only if i'm not exactly sure where the spot is on a map. Usually that's just when my eyes play tricks on me.

I use them because it is harder to move a unit to the wrong space with them. Plus it is easier to find where I should put cities.

I really only use them when I am carefully deciding where to put cities, since it really helps me see what squares will be in the city radius.

Same for me. I never use it for anything else.

Only to examine where to put my cities. Can't make a mistake doing that; as compared with making a wrong move with a unit.

I use them because easier to move the units to the right place, and it perfect for seeing exactly where to put your cities, because a mistake like that can be very costly

I generally only use grids for city placement especially if rivers come into play. Sometimes it's hard to determine which tiles are bordered by rivers.

Using the Grid is an asset none the less for experienced players or beginners... dont pass it up

Only when founding cities.

No to mention map editor

I've done that before. AAAAGGGHHHH!! Nothing worse than anarchy during your Golden Age.

AAAAGGGHHHH!!

YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTION,
WELL, YOU KNOW,
WE ALL WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD.
YOU TELL ME THAT IT'S EVOLUTION,
WELL, YOU KNOW,
WE ALL WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD.
BUT WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT DESTRUCTION,
DON'T YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN COUNT ME OUT?

DON'T YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA BE
ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT.

YOU SAY YOU GOT A REAL SOLUTION,
WELL, YOU KNOW,
WE'D ALL LOVE TO SEE THE PLAN.
YOU ASK ME FOR A CONTRIBUTION,
WELL, YOU KNOW,
WE'RE ALL DOING WHAT WE CAN.
BUT IF YOU WANT MONEY FOR PEOPLE WITH MINDS THAT HATE,
ALL I CAN TELL YOU IS, "BROTHER, YOU HAVE TO WAIT."

YOU SAY YOU'LL CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION,
WELL, YOU KNOW,
WE ALL WANT TO CHANGE YOUR HEAD.
YOU TELL ME IT'S THE INSTITUTION,
WELL, YOU KNOW,
YOU BETTER FREE YOUR MIND INSTEAD.
BUT IF YOU GO CARRYING PICTURES OF CHAIRMAN MAO,
YOU AIN'T GONNA MAKE IT WITH ANYONE ANYHOW.

DON'T YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA BE
ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT.

I usually play with them off, but sometimes I'll turn them on momentarilly when I'm trying to find the "perfect" spot or other critical decision.

I play with them off. I turn the grid on when I have a settler and I use goto command to send them to a spot to settle. Easier for me to make sure not too many overlapping squares between cities. Once the goto command is set, I turn the grid off again.
