I have been throwing ideas around about doing a mod like this for some time, origianlly I was going to do it for Rome: Total War, but decided Civilization IV was a far better game to do a mod like this for. This mod will focus on the time period from the years right before the Crusades to the early years of the Renaissance.

If you would like to help me with this please pm me or email me at FFVIIfreak@msn.com.

UPDATE (11-30-05): Updated post to include European units.

UPDATE (12-3-05): Update post to include Arabian and Mogol units.

UPDATE (12-3-05): Updated post to include the city improvement list.

UPDATE (12-5-05): Updated post to include European "World Wonders."

UPDATE (12-5-05): Updated post to include the full unit list. Updated post to include the civlization leader list. Updated post to include religions.

UPDATE (12-6-05): Due to game restrictions, Russia, India, and the Califate of Cairo have been remeoved from the faction list. I have also changed Medieval Infantry to Footman which upgrades to Man-at-Arms.

UPDATE (12-8-05): I have made the following updates:
- Updated the faction list to include all the faction leaders.
- Updated the new unit list, including generic and naval units.
- Removed Hinduism as a religion.

UPDATE (12-9-05): I have just updated the post to include the new techs on the tech tree.

UPDATE (12-9-05): Updated the tech tree with all the new techs, as well as what units/improvements they allow. All of the very early techs will already be researched, but I inlcuded them to give me a set of "base" techs, to base the later techs off of. With half the tech tree being cut off in a sense, I will hopefully be expanding it alot more in later versions of the mod.

UPDATE (12-19-05): I have updated the post, to include the final unit, Improvement, Wonder, and religion list. Also I have started actually modding. I hope to have the beta out by the new year or shortly there after.

UPDATE (1-29-06): I've removed the faction units as it is outdated, I will post the new list later this afternoon.
Other updates include:
- Final faction/leader
- Final city improvement
- Final religions
I hope to have Beta 1 out in the next 2 weeks. Beta 2 will follow within the next 3-4 weeks if everything goes to plan. I'll have an outline for what the beta's will include later today.

Instead of the Vikings, whose era ended in 1066, use the Kalmar Union, a medieval union between the kingdoms of Sweden, Denmark and Norway (and their colonies). This is more historically accurate, and would be cool.

Ok I will make that change for the release version then.

Heres a preliminary unit list for the European Kingdoms. I havent decided quite what to name swordsman, swordman is a bit to generic so I was thinking of maybe naming them Unmouted Knight(s). Any ideas?

I thinking that I am going to use the stock mediecal senerio map as a base for my map, as I couldnt do a decent map if my life depended on it, lol. I will be making some modifications to it however.

Units (European Powers)
- Pikeman
- Maceman
- Archers
- Longbow Archers
- Crossbowman
- Mouted Knights
- Swordman (Unmouted Knights?)

If anyone has any feedback please post it here, I will consider every idea that is submitted.

I have removed the Huns as a faction. They had their glory days long before the start of the game. I have added the Byzantine Empire in their place.

Can anyone tell me were in a mod folder I would include the map for that mod? I want to use a user created map, would I link it to the mod in the .ini folder?

Thanks,

Kushan

This is exactly what I've been thinking about as well. Once you get Industrial the game for me becomes boring. I was trying to think of a Wonder or something BIG that could be an ending around this time frame.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this leads.

I support this project and will offer any assistance needed. Just pm me if you need any help.

I would like to say that I hope no units will be added as in my opinion firaxis provided more than enough units to the game.

I think a good name for your swordmen unit (unmounted knight) could be foot knight

And by the way good mod project

Thanks for the feedback/support everyone. Right know I am doing a self crash course in XML, In RTW everything was txt files, so XML is something new to me.

lifeaquatic: Thanks, I will definately keep that in mind. Not planning on adding any new units. I am going to experminent with having each civilization have unique version of each unit. So the French and English will have different pikeman, they'll shre the same graphics, but stats may be different to simulate the strengths and weaknessess of each nation.

Legionarius: Wow finaly someone outside the RTW community who has heard of us :). Were getting ready for public release if your interested.

Inuk: That works, sounds better then my names.

I'm also going to be changing the civic options around a bit. Vassalage will allow not only for some units being supported, but for you to be able to draft/raise a few units per turn. This will simulate a lord raising troops for his king.

I crashed coursed myself on XML in the last 2 weeks after doing no computer language stuff since 87. :D If I can do it, I think most anyone can do it!

I am currently gathering ideas for the tech tree, and was wondering if someone could do me a favor? Could someone please install Civilization III: Conqests and take screenshots of the Medieval Scenerio Tech Tree? I tried doing this myself but C3C doesnt seem to want to install onto my laptop. Please send the screenshots to my email: FFVIIfreak@msn.com.

Thanks,

Kushan

Mind explaining it to me? lol

Some more civs to consider:

The Ottomans (had a huge empire around Turkey and conquered Constantinople in 1453)
The Papal State (if you're gonna include the crusades...)
Lithuania (had a large empire around 1400-1500)
Ethiopia/Abyssinia (just to include an African empire which was around at the time)

I hope you find some of these suggestions useful in some way. I definitely think the Ottomans and Ethiopians should be included, so that Europe would be a tiny bit less over-represented.

Edit: typo...

When you say Medieval, what years are you building this mod around? 1200-1500AD?

http://www.alientravelguide.com/history/medieval/poland.htm
The Polish people were ruled by the Piast dynasty. This dynasty had close ties to the Holy Roman Empire & introduced Christianity to the Polish. Poland was a strong & powerful kingdom. The Piast dynasty held power for several centuries, ending in 1370. With the death of the Piast dynasty, Poland was ruled by the Anjou king of Hungary. His daughter, Jadwiga, succeeded to the throne & married the grand duke of Lithuania in 1386. This marriage established the Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania

Sure, Poland was picked on by almost everyone... but it was still somewhat of an independant country.:mischief:

Does this warrent a place for Poland in your mod? :D
