When you mobilize, the shield output of all squares increases. You can only build military units during this time, and the shield bonus only applies to military units/military improvements (barracks, etc).

To get out of mobilization, you have to sign a peace treaty with a civ. If you mobilize and are not at war, you have to start a war and then sign peace to get out of mobilization.

After getting Nationalism, you can mobilize your economy so that every city that is building a military unit/improvement, gets one extra shield from every square that's in use and already producing once shield. You must turn it off either right after peace is declared, or if you were in peace time when mobilized, then you must declare war to get out of it.

Check out this thread

This is the FAQ thread, lot of good info there.

Edit: Slow typist :(

I would like to ask the board how often you use this. I don't think I have ever used it against the AI but I could see using it all the time against humans.

I hate that you slip out of mobilization w/o warning. Fighting on several fronts can be distracting. Making peace with the 1 city civ on the other side of the globe should not cause a great relief in my population!

Still, it is a chance to change build orders. I just wish there was a pop-up option.

Not being able to start wonders is the biggest pain.

Wow that is a good write up. If your going for the space ship vic and have your factories build + heroic epic.... you can mobilize and build your space ship with great leaders.... oh and you need space flight.

I only mobilize if I am not certain that I will be able to win a war. Because I tend to keep captured cities, I prefer not to mobilize so that I can rush cultural improvements in them.

Ditto on both points!

then again, in the very late game, there are barely any wonders left to build.

A trick that I figured out (dont know if it works). Do you know how mobilization doesn't effect certain improvements/units? well it can. Simply start with a unit that mobilization effects e.g mobile armor, then when it is nearly finished, switch to the improvement you want to build.

Though as I said, I dont know if it works

Not many wonders to build, yes, but you still have the space ship parts... :)
