This map is based on what the Greek astronomer and mapmaker Ptolemy thought the globe looked like. This is in no shape of form of realistic proportions. Bugs or errors are to be reported to: neb_315@hotmail.com or to Tr0x on CivFanatics. Enjoy.

Added Info: I am posting this for Tr0x, as he lost the original map file. It is a large map, and if you set if for all possible civilizations, it loads very slow. Patience is needed. I find that it works best with 10 or less civilizations. The enclosed Indian Ocean makes for some interesting strategies.

I will post a thumbnail when I have a chance. It is a fun map to play on, especially if you set most of the civilizations to be on the enclosed Indian Ocean, while you play on the Med or Atlantic. You can interact for a long while before warfare. And since it is basically one large continent, continent-wide Wonder effects are quite potent.

Thanks a LOT timerover, you really pulled through here :D

I can't wait to take a second look at it after having such a long break between creating it.

Here's what I based it on, just for reference. I have screenshots that I could post too if anyone is interested.

Thanks again! :goodjob:

I'm having a little fun doing with this map what I did with Keroro's Eratosthenes/Strabo Greek Map - namely importing the TAM random map BIQ rules to play on it. I like playing the civs of the period on a map from roughly the same period. I'll give a shot at playing Anno Domini Classic (also set up for a random map) on it next. MEM II might be worth a try also.

Since the Ptolemy map was still view as reasonably accurate during the early Middle Ages, using the MEM II mod would be reasonable. I am glad that you are enjoying the map, Blue Monkey. I am having a lot of fun with it as well. I have modified it to include North Sea oil in marshes where the Netherlands would be, and also added oil about where Rumania would be. Otherwise, oil is a big headache for the European and Med civs.

I'm glad you people like it! :D I've actually yet to play through a game on it, so I'm eager to know how it plays and if any changes are needed.

Adding the oil to europe was a good idea, Timerover. The map is just too big to get to the oil in the middle east etc.
