While terror-free gas stations sound like a great idea, it's slightly different.

Group Plans 'Terror Free' Gas Station in Omaha

Jan. 22: The country's first Terror-Free Oil gas station under construction in Omaha, Neb.

OMAHA, Neb. — The Terror-Free Oil Initiative is planning to open the nation's first "terror free" gas station in Omaha.

The Florida-based group claims U.S. dollars used to purchase gas made from Middle East oil funds terrorism. It urges Americans to only buy oil products that originate from countries that do not support terrorism.

The Terror-Free Oil station in west Omaha will sell gas from oil companies that do not do business in the Middle East. Signs calling for the use of non-Middle Eastern oil were up at the station today.

Spokesman Joe Kaufman says the station will open Feb. 1, with a grand opening scheduled for Feb. 12.

Other Terror-Free Oil stations are planned.

Terror-Free Oil Initiative is dedicated to encouraging Americans to buy gasoline that originated from countries that do not export or finance terrorism.

We educate the public by promoting those companies that acquire their crude oil supply from nations outside the Middle East and by exposing those companies that do not.

We are also looking into creating a healthy debate concerning alternate methods of fuel production and consumption.

On that site as well: "God bless the USA", "We stand with Israel", "Support Denmark", "You are in our prayers (brittain)" and such other dubious quotations.

Also check out the list of companies

Does oil purchased by us from the middle-east fund terrorism?

Which countries export and finance terrorism, or is it simply "The Middle-East"?

Including Middle Eastern nations like Quatar?

If yes, then they are bigots. If no, and they actually distinguish wether the oil comes from nations that support terrorism or not then it sounds pretty cool

Actually, a little bit of terror in your gas is a good thing, it gives that engine the extra punch needed when accelerating up a steep hill or while towing.

I may just get my gas from one of these places; their principles are virtuous. Are they any more a bunch of bigots than the Middle Eastern dictators who sell copious amounts of oil to other countries?

Virtuous? Maybe, there a vit of info missing from their site, or I haven't looked in the right places. But calling companies that import oil from the Middle-East: "Companies that finance terrorism by importing oil from the Middle East" makes me suspicious about the statement: "Terror-Free Oil Initiative is dedicated to encouraging Americans to buy gasoline that originated from countries that do not export or finance terrorism."

Their objective for alternative methods of fuelproduction is commendable. What I want to know, do they make an informed decisions on which countries to exclude from their import, which would make it a good innitiative, or do they simply block the etire ME?

edit: btw, does Afghanistan export oil?

I personally think it's a good idea; though other countries will be happy to take up the slack, and the drop in price from those countries. This will lead to cheaper oil for those not partaking of the embargo, while also resulting in reduced revenues for the oil-exporting ME countries.

It's a neat way of distinguishing their products; it's an attempt to increase the value of (say) Canadian oil

How could they know for sure that a country does or does not support terrorism? They have every right to buy gasoline to sell to consumers from alternative countries, even at the expense of a clean Middle Eastern country.

Interesting stuff. Though I'm not sure how it's ever been clear who sponsors terror the idea of crushing the oil cartel's monopoly oil weapon makes sense. I think some of the ideas adopted here should be enforced and enhanced nationwide.
Annual Franchise Fee: $1
To run Terror-Free Oil gas station(s) you must subscribe to Terror-Free principles outlined below:
  • Gas/diesel products must be purchased from a company that does not import oil from the Middle East (required)
  • 1% of revenues must be donated to a counter-terrorism organization* (required)
  • If gas station sells diesel, it must offer biodiesel blend (required)
  • Gas station must offer either E85 or biodiesel or 2% rebates for hybrids (required)
  • Books must be available for inspection by TFO authorized auditor upon request (required)
  • E85 should be offered within one year from joining T.F.E.C. (recommended)
  • 2% gas rebates for hybrids (recommended)
  • Offer additional benefits for drivers of hybrid and FFV vehicles (recommended)
Time to watch US firms like HES (Hess Corp), XTO (XTO Energy) and EOG (EOG Resources) along with Canadian companies like CNQ (Canadian Natural Resources), and Sunoco (SU).

How are they bigots? If anything I applaud any attempt to get America off a dependency on Middle Eastern oil if just by a small amount. That region is volatile, so we can never be sure what could happen to our oil imports.

That's why people should give to tax-deductible charities!

The best way to do this is to reduce one's personal consumption. Properly inflating your tires, smoother acceleration, etc. As well as trying to reduce our consumption of long-distance goods, by such things as choosing local fruits/vegetables over foreign varieties.

It's not clear. I think they're suggesting that since most oil is blended it's best to avoid all oil that's coming from the ME or bought on NYMEX.

Americans fund enough terrorism by paying their taxes.
Easy there Mr. Passive Aggressive.

Not anymore we stopped giving money to the pallies.

The gas station I go to has giant signs that say "This is not Citgo gas.". I don't know if its "terror free".

Seems like a good idea to me. Lumping the whole ME into one is foolish, but most of the other ideas seem sound.

It all streams down the same pipes? Something like that? that would make sense.

edit, odd thought: However this also includes Iraqi petrol which would be used to rebuild the country. Only if this initiative would prove succesfull, it would hamper that.

(There's enough markets out there of course, but in principle it seems a little pearshaped)

What an overrexaggerated name for "Middle eastern oil free gas stations".

They are assuming that buying oil from the middle east support terrorism.

It does. These oil nations all funnel petrol dollars to several terror orgs. lke hamas, hezbola, islamic jihad, al aqsa, ect. ect.

Yeah and i suppose buying products from the U.S indirectly supports the iraq war. After all companies pay taxes too.

Is it cheaper?
