A Brave New World Part 2

From Sunday until the 3rd of January I'll be in London on business. Since I can trust nobody with the empire, I am putting it on "automatic kill mode" so anyone who defies France in the slightest will be destroyed. Only for a week.

Starting Sunday, I will be moving to Long Island. Once there, I will not have and internet connection for a while. I'll try to get to a coffee shop once and a while to keep up to date. Hopefully New England won't sink my entire fleet of Man-o-Wars at Halifax and rush up the St. Lawrence while I'm gone.

Quick everyone invade France! We may have a chance now!

Italy will slap England by herself if needs be. A whore needs to keep her clients happy after all so stay away from France.

ECONOMIC REPORT. Paris, France. The collapse of parts of the Russian Federation and the increasing amount of nations across the globe seem to be opening the doors for many developing nations' economies. Economic growth is on a definite rise across the world, particularly in North America, Europe, and Asia. Though the international political situation seems to be tense, the entry of the Republic of New England to the Co-Axial Pact of Nations and the friendly relations between that bloc and the Asian-Pacific Agreement for Cooperation and Security seemed to be conducive for international trade. CALL FOR ELECTIONS IN FLORIDA. Saint Augustine, Florida. Using the publicity generated by the holding of the Olympic Games this year in Saint Augustine, various protest groups have rallied throughout the nation's capitol calling for the resignation of Presidente-General Graham and the restoration of democracy. The protests, as in previous years, were squelched by military might and protest leaders were arrested by the government. The Graham regime has so far refused to relinquish any power, and has stated that under the dictatorship, the Floridian nation has prospered far more than it ever did under a elected government. Citing the instability of the republic during the Louisianan and Georgian invasions and the Seminole Rebellion, Graham so far continues to maintain the support of the nation's military and elite. PENNSYLVANIA ELECTIONS. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Socialist Party in Pennsylvania, despite the recent debacle with the government of New Jersey and the French entry into the region, has managed to retain a strong hold over the country. The incursions late in the year by New Jersey militias even after the French occupation of the region, have helped reinforce the Party's views towards the nation's belligerent neighbor among the populace. Though the strength of the Co-Axial Pact of Nations prevents further actions internationally, the people now support the party's politics abroad as well as the country's growing friendship with the Virginian Empire and the Socialist Union. (+2 Stability)

NEW FRANCE ELECTIONS LEAD TO LISISM. New Caen, Republic of New France. As promised in the year after the conclusion of the World Wars in North America, General Jacque Lebeau stepped down from his position of absolute ruler of the Republic of New France in favor of elections. Refusing any political party's nomination, Lebeau threw the system into confusion as the traditional parties struggled to regain their prewar statuses. The New France Lisist Party was the one which benefitted the most in the confusion of the new elections, calling for a stronger military and closer relations with France and the Co-Axial Pact of Nations. Led by the war hero, Luc Deville, the Lisist Party managed to sweep its way to victory through aggressive use of radio and cinema dogma. A new constitution has been established, as the new Lisist government pledging to bring about a bright new dawn for the Republic. (+2 Stability)

FOX REPUBLIC ELECTIONS. Fox Falls, Fox Republic. The rising issues of the North American continent failed to play a major role in the Fox elections this year, as the Liberal government struggled to maintain control. The Conservative Party launched a brutal campaign against the government, denouncing their inability to prevent the return of the hated and feared Sauk monarchy. The Conservatives have pledged to look for outside sources and assistance in at the very least ending the monarchy, and perhaps even restoring the Algonquin Nation. Though the militarist possibilities of the Conservatives have alienated the war-weary public, the failures of the Liberal Party seem too much, and the Presidency was lost to the challengers. The Conservative Party, despite that success, were unable to secure a majority in the Congress, where the Liberal Party still reigns supreme. (-1 Stability)

ALABAMA ELECTIONS. Birmington, Alabama. The Liberal Party of Alabama failed to retain much support this year, as the country looked to others more likely to build the nation's economy and investment. The Conservative Party won hearts and minds by pledging to work on negotiations with the Virginian Empire for eventual withdrawal from the Imperial Protectorate as well as the creation of a more self-sufficient nation. The Conservatives have gained much of their support from Floridian businessmen, who have undercut Virginian businesses by moving into the territory quicker. The massive amount of agricultural imports from Florida have helped to greatly tie the Alabaman economy to their larger southern neighbor. The Conservative Party managed to not only win the Presidency, but full control of the People's House. (+1 Stability)

APPALACHIA ELECTIONS. Atlanta, Appalachia. The moderate coalition party of Appalachia shuddered this year as a number of Conservatives broke away from the main party, calling for similar efforts as the Conservative Party in Alabama. The Moderate Party still managed to hold the majority of support from liberals and moderates in the country, but the increasing strength of the Conservative Party became more obvious as the year progressed. The coalition managed to maintain control through the Presidency, though they have lost their overwhelming majority in Congress to both the Conservatives and Socialists, who have managed to make a surge in electoral strength. SWEDES HURT IN ALASKA RIOT. Juneau, Alaska. Anti-Swedish sentiment has grown in Alaska as a wave of nationalism sweeps across the country. The predominantly Russian populace has launched a series of growing protests and rallies against the Swedish imperial government, calling for the end of the monarchy. This year several protests turned violence as the military was called in to restore order alongside local Swedish troops. Antagonized by troubles at home, Swedish troops fired upon crowds, which only further exacerbated resistance. Retaliation was quick as Alaskans attacked Swedish businessmen throughout the nation, leaving several dead and over a dozen injured. By the end of the year martial law remained in effect in Juneau, while the countryside was under supervision by the military. (-1 Stability)

YUCATAN DISPUTE RESOLVED. Merida, Yucatan. The Yucatan War for Independence came to a close this year as the governments of Central America and Mexico came to an agreement concluding the conflict. The Mexican government agreed to allow and respect a plebiscite for Yucatan's independence this year, which soon went underway under neutral supervision. The Mayan people voted for full freedom from the Mexican government, leading to jubilation among their allies in Guatemala and Honduras. Yucatan's new government is slated to hold elections next year, in order to establish a new constitution and government for the people. At last, it seems that the remnants of the World Wars in North America are coming to a complete close, with the last Mexican forces demobilized in accordance with the Treaty of Vera Cruz. QUEBEC LEAVES PROTECTORATE, ECONOMY FAILS. Quebec City, Quebec. In response to the Republic of New England's joining in alliance with the Co-Axial Pact of Nations, the government of Quebec announced the nation's withdrawal from the New Englander Imperial Protectorate. The Republic of New England responded by closing trade with Quebec, being the largest importer of Quebec's industry. A blockade was also enacted along the St. Lawrence River, shutting down Quebecois trade, and preventing sales to other international customers. Though some feared that this would have a negative effect upon New England's economy, the lost goods were made up with purchases within the Co-Axial Pact of Nations, particularly with France. Meanwhile, Quebec has entered into massive inflation and the failure of industry, leading to massively increased unemployment almost overnight. The government has been met with massive criticism, as all their sins come to the surface. The failure to establish a national constitution or to hold any elections since the end of the war have reigned as dominant problems, emphasized with the economic collapse. Riots and protests have been held as the nations nears anarchy. (-5 Stability)

FRENCH MOVE INTO NEW JERSEY WITH TREATY. Trenton, New Jersey. The French military has officially returned to North America, marking the full conclusion of the Treaty of Rome which ended the Great War. As Pennsylvanian forces withdrew from occupied New Jersey, the French army, aided by the New Englander Marines and Navy, moved into the region to restore stability. Though a military governor has been installed by the French government, they have allowed for the employment of local New Jerseyan politicians and officials in preparation for New Jersey's future. The effort has not been completely peaceful, however, as the New Jersey Devils launched parting shots against Pennsylvania. Guerrillas have been reported to be operating in eastern Pennsylvania, crossing over the Delaware River at night and striking at Pennsylvanian communities, terrorizing many. Pennsylvanian officials have appealed to the French military to prevent these incursions in the name of peace in the area.

FIGHTING ESCALATES IN LOUISIANA. New Orleans, Louisiana. This year has proven to be highly eventful in the struggle for control in the beleaguered nation of Louisiana, beginning with Texan recognition of the Saint Louis leadership as the official ruler of Louisiana. Needless to say, this has sparked an outright declaration of war upon the Texan Republic by the leaders in New Orleans and a major battle was fought north of the Red River. The Louisianans managed to win several significant successes against both Saint Louis and Texas, but found these reversed with the arrival of a large Virginian army. The Virginians took charge of the theater, routing the Louisianan army, and helping the Saint Louis government secure territory south of the Red River. In a manner which seems familiar to many, the Vodoun leaders have managed to establish a chokepoint for the Virginians, as they attempt to push through the wreckage of Baton Rouge to New Orleans.
Casualty List
Texan Republic: 9 Infantry Brigades, 3 Murphy Brigades, 5 AS-124 Squadrons
Virginian Empire: 12 Infantry Brigades, 1 Artillery Brigade, 3 Murphy Brigades, 1 AS-Zero Squadron
Saint Louis: 2 Infantry Brigades, 2 Artillery Brigades, 2 Monitors, 2 AS-124 Squadrons

FIGHTING CONTINUES IN METIS REPUBLIC. Winnipeg, Metis Republic. The Virginians continued search and destroy operations throughout the Metis Republic this year, but seemed to have met with much less success. The Metis militias have managed to anticipate several Virginian moves, and leave ambushes, causing the casualty rate to nearly double this year, as the militias win several key successes. Political leaders from all sides of the board have continued to refuse to cooperate with any Virginian attempts to rebuild the government, leading to utter failure of the Virginian authorities as they continue to retain military control. The militias have managed to even hit a large Virginian airfield in the region, destroying the planes where they sat. (-8 Infantry Brigades, -5 AS-Zero Squadrons, -2 Puma IV Squadrons)

NEW ENGLAND DEVELOPS NEW ANTI-SUB MEASURE. Boston, Republic of New England. New Englander naval researchers in Boston have developed an important new measure for combating submarines. Throughout the years of the World Wars, navies across the world experimented with various detection methods to locate submarines before they could hit convoys or warships. The most successful of these proved to be hydrophonic detection devices. The New Englanders have expanded upon this ideal, working out the kinks and have created a highly secret device known as Asdic. This new weapon of war has been leaked to the press and other navies have begun a rush to deploy them in their own surface ships, but New England clearly possesses the best to date. CANADA CLOSES UNIONS. Toronto, Canada. The Canadian government made a controversial move this year, shutting down the nation's various workers' unions. Offering in their place, the Canadian government has established a bureau to investigate and address the claims and grievances set forth by any applicant worker. This move has been met with protests, which have been suppressed by the military, as the unions attempt to flex their muscles, launching several factory strikes against the government's move. They have refused to allow workers to enter the nation's main arms factories until the government repeals the laws and permits the establishment of national unions once more. (-2 Stability)

PENNSYLVANIA OPENS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Workers' Bureau of Pittsburgh has sponsored the creation of a city-wide mass transit system using a new invention. Structural engineers have helped to develop an underground railway for the city, providing quick and easy transportation without interfering with above-ground traffic. Referred to as a "subway," this transportation system has been met with applause by a variety of urban groups across the globe. Even in purely capitalistic societies, Pennsylvanian engineers involved with the project have been hired to create similar systems.

Central/South American News Report

EL SALVADOR ELECTIONS. San Salvador, El Salvador. The success of the coalition of Central American nations in the effort to gain Yucatan's independence has helped political matters in several countries. One of these is the previously war-torn republic of El Salvador, in which the Conservative Party leadership has managed to proclaim its success over the Mexican government. Though not technically true, the new government has pledged to help maintain the balance of power in Central America, as well as promising to maintain economic stability, if not growth internally. Though relations seem to be warming up throughout the region, the Conservatives have promised to keep on their guard, maintaining El Salvador's military strength. Thanks to these pledges, the Conservatives managed to retain control of the Presidency and Congress in a landslide majority (+1 Stability)

BOLIVIAN ELECTIONS. Sucre, Bolivia. The reconstruction of Bolivia has been dominated by the support of the Socialist Union of South America as well as the determined efforts of the local Socialist Party. The success of the locals in rebuilding their economy and restoring their long-occupied nation has not gone unnoticed by the voting public. Though various opposition parties have begun to rally against the Socialists, the government has managed to retain the majority of support among the people. Conservatives and moderates alike have failed to break the hold of the Socialist Party, which has pledged to continue the policies of internal reconstruction and development previously enacted. The Socialist Party, with their electoral success, have pledged that they will remain removed from warfare while rebuilding the Bolivian republic. (+1 Stability)

UNREST CONTINUES IN CHILE. Santiago, Chile. Socialist backed unrest continued against the military regime in Chile this year, as the nation's unions struggle to regain the strength they had under the republic's reign during the war. The president has in response illegalized the nation's unions, using the military to break up strikes and protests by the leftists. The military continues to remain on high alert, particularly in response to "Socialist warmongering" from the Socialist Union of South America, which has frequently protested the Chilean government's efforts against the unrest. (-1 Stability)

ANTI-IMPERIAL RIOTS IN PERU. Lima, Peru. Anti-New Englander movements gained in strength this year throughout Peru, as the government has been persistently portrayed as puppets of Boston. The Guerra regime retains much support from the Republic of New England, both before and during the World Wars in South America. Illegal unions and socialist movements have rallied a core to a growing resistance against the control of the New Englander Imperial Protectorate. Several strikes were made against the government's military and an organized armed movement has begun to be established against the regime. The Guerra government has so far refused New England's aid except for localized air support requests. Fighting has been reported throughout the Peruvian Amazon, as Peru claims the rebels flee into the Socialist Union to prevent capture. (-3 Infantry Brigades, -1 Stability)

SOCIALIST UNION TO BUILD NEW CAPITAL. Rio de Janeiro, Socialist Union of South America. The success of the Ordenz Plan has led to the announcement of a new extensive project by the Socialist Union of South America. Rio de Janeiro's time as the nation's capital is drawing short, as the government begins efforts to build a new capital is some of the territory previously cleared by the Ordenz Project. The ground was broken for the capital building of Cidade do Povo was broken this year by laborers as the Socialist Union begins work on a new city from scratch. The capital is to be designed as a symbol of modern socialist progress and development, with all the luxuries of the modern world considered in the construction.

COLLECTIVES COMPLETE NAVAL MODERNIZATION EFFORTS. Urquizaville, Argentine Collectives Federation. Despite the loss of the nation's main ports to the Argentine Republic, the Argentine Collectives Federation have completed a long-standing naval modernization program this year. In order to make the nation more competitive upon the high seas, the Argentines have spent extensive effort into updating their naval training and craft. This expenditure was completed this year, as the navy has been brought up to code, what of it that there is. Design techniques were also further studied in preparation for the a probable naval build up of various craft. (+1 Naval Quality)

European News Report

ENGLISH ELECTIONS. London, England. Despite the ever-looming presence of French attacks and bombing, elections continued as scheduled this year in England. The stabilization of the food crisis thanks to smuggling and near socialization of internal food production has helped garner support for hte government, though some wonder at the wisdom of holding elections in such a climate. Parliament, showing failure to achieve any negotiations or deal with the French government, has managed to continue to rally support for the Conservative Party, pledging to maintain the nation's sovereignty and to keep up the Good Fight to preserve European freedom from French tyranny. The high level of central planning and mobilization have come into the most dispute as the government struggles to retain control as the nation's infrastructure falls under persistent attack. (+1 Stability)

ITALIAN ELECTIONS. Rome, Republic of Italy. The elections in the Republic of Italy this year were hardly in any doubt among the locals and international observers. The success of the nation as led by the Repubblicani Leali during the World Wars, demonstrated the viability of the creation of a new Roman Republic. Using much rhetoric reminiscent of the glory days of Rome, the new leaders have vowed to integrate the spoils of the war for Italy. Though some of the program have met little success, the increasing economic prosperity for the nation, and the seizure of occupied resources by Italian businesses, have led to the conservative leadership continuing to gain much support from the shakers and movers of Italian society. Flush with campaign funds and previous successes, the Repubblicani Leali have managed to gain almost total control over the Senate as well as the Presidency. (+2 Stability)

LISIST DEMONSTRATIONS IN BOHEMIA. Prague, Bohemia. The so-called "failure of democracy" as reflected by the result of the World Wars has left the traditionally neutral nations of Europe in a bit of a quandary. Bohemia is one of these countries which must now seek to redefine itself in the new order of Europe and the world as a whole. The instability of the Russian Federation and the Balkans has led to the Bohemian Lisist Party increasing in strength. Several major rallies were held this year throughout the streets, announcing the establishment of the National Lisist Party. The new movement has managed to rally the younger part of the population through its methods, and many believe it'll be a strong contender for the 1949 elections. (-1 Stability)

REVOLT ON CYPRUS. Nicosia, France. The French possession of Cyprus, captured during the end of the World Wars in Europe, initiated a revolt this year, as the local Greek and German population attacked French military outposts. They were initially successful against the imperial occupiers, overrunning several bases, and some of the captured equipment is still unaccounted for. The French response was swift, as ships and troops were deployed to the island to restore control and order. The local resistance was quickly crushed in several pitched battles in the cities and countryside. Despite the success, some limited fighting continued throughout the year, as the remaining rebels persisted in attacks against the French occupation. CIVIL WAR IN RUSSIA. St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. The crisis launched by Jughashvili's assassination in 1946 has finally come to a climax with several states of the Federation launching a rebellion for nationalist independence. The Russian Federation published its terms, asking the nationalist militias to turn in their arms in exchange for a democratic vote, which would have had to achieve a super majority, a feat which would likely be virtually impossible in all regions. With the unanimous refusal of the various nationalist groups of these terms, the Russian military was deployed, resulting in the eruption of a civil war. The Russian military, a diverse organization in its own, found itself divided, as some of the forces defected to aid their homelands. The strongest centers of opposition to the Russian government emerged with the Polish rebellion in Warsaw and the Lithuanians and Latvians to the north. Though these nations possess some conflicts with each other, they have at least established a temporary alliance to preserve their freedom from the Federation. Similar independence movements have emerged with less success that have aligned themselves with the rebel alliance. Estonia was one of these groups, though their proximity to St. Petersburg and the military bases there prevented a successful uprising, instead resulting in only futile bloodshed on both sides. The worst of the year's fighting erupted in the Ukraine, which was already fighting in the previous two years. While the overall Ukrainian national militias have aligned themselves with the rebel alliance, a large number of locals remain loyal to the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian independents have managed to seize their heartlands of Kiev and Kharkov, though the Russian backers have managed to maintain control of Odessa and the Crimea. The situation has been further exacerbated with the proclamation of the Republic of Manchuria, which has called for a union with the Republic of China. The local militias in Manchuria have held elections calling for such a union, and this may well lead to a conflict between Russia and China in the region. The violence of the conflict has led to much confusion within the Russian Federation's Duma, as some political groups have denounced the use of the military, and even warned against continued efforts, lest further secessions take place. As if to give credibility, rumbles of disloyalty have begun to emerge in the southern countries of the Caucuses, and many fear that the total collapse of the Federation could be imminent. (-160 Infantry Brigades via desertion, turmoil, and initial casualties)

ITALY ATTEMPTS INTEGRATION OF EMPIRE. Athens, Republic of Italy. The Republic of Italy passed an act this year allowing full citizenship for any member of the conquered empire provided that they swear a oath of allegiance to the government. This has met with very little support through the whole of Greek territories, as the Greek Resistance grows in strength, publicly making examples of collaborators with the Italian occupiers. The Greeks launched several attacks against Italian military forces throughout the region, rallying some support against the Italian government. Italian troops have even been completely defeated in some rural areas, as the Greeks secure their bases of power against the Axis. They have vowed to continue their fight to force Italian withdrawal until ultimate victory. (-3 Infantry Brigades, -1 Stability)

RUSSIAN BUSINESS DEVELOPS PASSENGER AIRCRAFT. Moscow, Russian Federation. Russian International Airlines has brought to the market a strong new tool, providing a much more efficient and comfortable passenger aircraft. The new plane has the flight range of a passenger zeppelin, but with greater speed and comfort for the passengers. This new development has led to the RIA declaring that they will be shutting down their zeppelin terminals across the world over the next few years in favor of improving runways to allow for passenger combustion aircraft. The works for these new planes has allowed the company to prosper even within the current turbulent domestic situation in Russia.

INDEPENDENCE IN SCANDINAVIA. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. To the gratitude and surprise of the people of Finland and Norway, the Swedish government has not only honored last year's plebiscite results for independence, but even helped the new governments organize. The Swedes provided funds and material support for the new nations, as both countries moved for independence. In a speech by King Gustav V, the Swedes expressed that while Finland and Norway are going independent, there is no reason that the three nations cannot maintain amicable relations. They also hope that the funds will help negate territorial disputes which may emerge over the regions considered Norwegian and Finnish which did not vote to join the seceding provinces. (+5 Stability)

ESTABLISHMENT OF NORWAY. Oslo, Norway. The Norwegian government has been established as a democracy this year, with all political parties allowed to compete for political power. A strong President will be allowed, alongside a balanced Congress to help maintain a separation of powers. The President is slated to be in charge of the military, as well as given a tie-breaking vote within Congress. The Congress can declare war as well as pass other important legislation which matters to the country domestically and internationally. Elections are to be first held in 1949, and every five years following that. Already political movements have begun lobbying support for next year's highly anticipated campaigns.

FINLAND CREATED. Helsinki, Finland. The Finnish nationalists have at last achieved their dream of a newly independent Finland from the Swedish Empire. Given support from the Swedes to establish their constitution, the Finns have brought forth a new republic, much like the Norwegians. However, the Presidency is established as a much stronger arm of government, as the Finns model their nation after the gubernatorial regimes of America after the collapse of the United States of America. Unlike those states, while the President has significantly more influence over Congress, the nation still is ultimately under the control of the majority in the legislature. Similar to the early North American republics, elections for the Presidency will be held every six years beginning in 1949.

SWEDE INVENTS NEW HOMEMAKER ITEM. Malmo, Sweden. A Swedish inventor patented the new electric washer this year, a device which is claimed to revolutionize the cleaning of clothes around the household. Produced as an item for homemaking mothers, the new device is showcased as a true time saver which will help families as a whole. The production of this device has just entered into service as the newfound company works to distribute to increasing demand nationally. Investors from France and elsewhere have looked into the project, but fear that it may make women too lazy, as they already require supervision to maintain their position within the household. Nonetheless, sales are beginning to pick up as people scurry to acquire this labor saving device.

BATTLE OF ENGLAND CONTINUES. Plymouth, England. Bombers from the Axis continued to pound the English nation this year, attempting to further devastate the island nation's industry and production. As in recent years, opposition against the airborne attacks has mostly evaporated as munitions and fuel prove too expensive to use excessively. The French bombers have been able to pinpoint and destroy a number of anti-aircraft installations, managing to level them without even losing a craft. The war has extended from beyond the shores of England, as the English use their Danish submarine cruisers to launch a naval war against French shipping. The Shark Submarines have proven effective against smaller French craft, surprising and devastating French escort ships. The greatest victory came when they managed to sink a battleship, attempting to enforce the blockade, though it did come at a hefty cost of a pair of submarines. Many observers question if an invasion will ever come, particularly as the English manage to stabilize their internal food sources against the threat of blockade and starvation.
Casualty List
France: 4 Destroyers, 2 Light Cruisers, 1 Caesar-class Battleship
England: 10 Anti-Air Brigades, 4 Shark Submarines

FRENCH PILOT BREAKS ALTITUDE LEVELS. Paris, France. A French war hero pilot managed to customize a standard PDHA-40 bomber this year and take his crew to much higher altitudes, finally able to gain an advantage over fighters. The pilot has designed and patented a configuration of engines which would allow for longer range and heavier capacity bombers and fighter aircraft. The redefining of the piston engine design may well drastically alter the methods of airborne combat, as heavier bombers may soon enter into production. The French have decorated the pilot for his efforts, and his training and leadership has been instrumental in the increasingly effective French air force. (+1 Air Force Quality)

ATTACK ON EMPEROR OF MALI. Timbuktu, Mali. Malian Emperor Mahmud V was attacked this year by an anarchist member of the Nijeria First Movement, being crippled by the shot. After several highly expensive and determined surgeries by the best doctors available, the Emperor was proclaimed to be stable, but has lost use of his left arm as well as some brain function. After less than a year of the recreation of the Empire of Mali, the first Emperor has been forced to step down in favor of a new successor. Rather than restoring the monarchy, elections have been held, backed by the small military, calling for the establishment of a republic. The elections went surprisingly smoothly, leading to a electoral victory of a moderate coalition of both conservatives and liberals. A new constitution has been written by the reigning party, with new elections to be held every four years. (+1 Stability)

PALESTINE ELECTIONS. Al Quds, Palestine. The elections in Palestine this year resulted in a turn of events, breaking away from Islamic domination of the country's politics. After the turmoil of the incumbent's recent reign, the nation has determined that it must shift to a more secular perspective. The Christian minority has thrown its support to the more secular Jewish dominated Liberal Party, alongside moderate Muslims. The Liberal Party has pledged to help maintain democracy in the Middle East, as well as to work to repair the rifts caused internally by the previous administration. Opposition leaders to the new government have led several protests, in a badly divided election, as no political faction maintains a true majority in the nation's Congress, despite Liberal control of the Presidency. (-1 Stability)

JORDAN ELECTIONS. Amman, Jordan. The Liberal Party in Jordan has so far been entirely uncontested by the opposing Conservatives in the country. The Liberal Party's successful development of the nation and growing economy have been strong influences in the electoral process, and the Conservatives found themselves hardly able to make any headway. The tide nearly turned when a major scandal of embezzlement broke out among the Liberal government, though the process continued unabated. The Conservatives accused the government of buying the elections, raising some suspicions towards the process as a whole. Despite this, the Liberal Party continues to remain in control, though they have promised to investigate any and all claims of corruption within the regime. (-1 Stability)

NIJERIAN ELECTIONS. Christiansburg, Nijeria. The first elections since independence from imperial rule were held this year in Nijeria, as various political movements competed for power. The Nijerian First Movement, reformed as a ultra-nationalist organization, modeled itself upon Lisist lines, using radio broadcasts and theatrics to help garner support. Bolstered by support from various French economical entities, the Nijerian First Movement has managed to establish itself as the leading power under Henrik Olesen, a Christian convert. The Nijerian First Movement has also become closely tied with the elimination of old African traditions in favor of a more Western approach to internal affairs. Olesen, a student of Korean transformation before the World Wars, has determined to follow a similar policy, establishing Catholic Christianity as the state religion and forbidding all other faiths. An authoritarian regime has been established with many opposing parties being outlawed for noncompliance with the new regime. (+2 Stability)

TOGO ELECTIONS. Lome, Togo. The government of Togo managed to preserve much of the national constitution, unlike their former comrades in Nijeria. The elections went as planned this year, and liberals and conservatives alike were able to put aside their differences to establish a dominant Moderate Party. This coalition movement has managed to sweep aside smaller political parties on a platform of the creation of stability and prosperity in the young new nation. The Moderate Party has managed to gain control of both the Presidency and Congress, and hope for their chance to prove their ability as leaders. (+2 Stability)

INSURGENTS ATTACK IN ABYSSINIA. Addis Abada, Republic of New England. The New Englander occupation force in the recently reclaimed country of Abyssinia has begun to face a rising series of insurgent attacks. Striking against isolated New Englander military outposts, it seems that the Abyssinian army is not quite finished with their war effort. The success of the Axis armies last year appears to have been only temporary as the rebels proved successful in the destruction of several installations. The imperial government has declared martial law in several urban centers, as a crackdown in initiated. Overall the effort has seemed ineffective as the rebels strike with great strength from the countryside, holding their own against colonial troops. DAM COMPLETED IN EGYPT. Cairo, Egypt. Several years of intensive work and labor since the end of Egypt's brief involvement in the World Wars has led to the completion of the anticipated Aswan Dam. Considered to be the largest scale construction in the African country since the reconstruction of the Suez Canal after the Suez War, the Aswan Dam has helped provide cheap electrical power to much of southern Egypt. As part of the regional warlord's plans for the area, the dam has helped provide much aid to farmers and urban dwellers alike, as this warlord pushes for modernization. The success of the construction has led to much debate among the three generals of the ruling triumvate as they struggle to determine wattage to be provided to other regions of Egypt.

MODERN FARMING PRODUCT INVENTED IN EGYPT. Alexandria, Egypt. Efforts sponsored by one leader of the Egyptian triumvate have led to the creation of a modern tool for more efficient agriculture. The great new invention, which has since been shown off at the Floridian Agricultural Institute, is the combustion harvester, which essentially allows a single farmhand to do the work previously done by dozens in the same amount of time. The new device has entered into production in Egypt as well as other locations, as farmers around the world express a demand for the new invention, hoping to further increase their production. The increased capacity of farms could well lead to even greater amounts of food to be brought to the world market.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM COMPLETED IN PERSIA. Tehran, Persia. After several regimes and changes throughout the years, the Persian government has finally allocated the funds for the completion of the Infrastructure Development Program this year. The program has modernized railway transportation across the country, providing speedy transportation from one side of Persia to the other. The effort has also sponsored the paving of roads throughout the urban centers of the nation, providing better and more efficient use of automobiles throughout the country. This has encouraged the development of the local automotive industry, though most automobile users continue to buy from Russian production companies.

The Islamic theocracy of Pancasilia has faced its first internal issues this year as protests were launched, claiming that the government has failed to address the establishment of employment for the people. The poor state of the economy seems to have pointed out that many expected instant change with the end of Dutch colonial rule over the islands. The leaders of the government have attempted to point out that change is not instant and that the economy will take some time to repair. The opposition to the government, backed by the various socialist thinkers throughout the region, has helped spark several riots over prices and unemployment, leading to the deployment of the nation's minor military to help contain the unrest. (-1 Stability)

MAORI REJECT NEW ZEELAND PURCHASE OFFERS. Nassau, New Zeeland. The government of New Zeeland attempted to act upon campaign promises of acquiring Maori land this year, offering to purchase the land from the natives. The Maori unanimously refused in the multitude of tribes, and in response the military was sent in to forcibly remove them, while still providing monetary compensation. The Maori, usually involved in infighting, have united in arms, and in a pitched battle successfully defeated the New Zeelander military. While not declaring independence, the Maori have refused to allow white colonization of the southern island, threatening further attacks on the sparse European outposts and trading posts throughout the island if further incursions occur. (-2 Infantry Brigades, -1 Stability)

JEJU INCIDENT. Jeju, Republic of New England. The Korean government has come under harsh international ridicule and criticism this year after attempting to provoke an incident over the New Englander controlled island of Jeju. The Koreans claimed that the waters around the island were territorial Korean fishing waters, a claim which has never been disputed by the Republic of New England, who has allowed fishing to continue unhindered for years. During a well publicized fishing trip to the region, conveniently provided cameras were on hand to capture the explosion of several fishing ships near the island. The Korean government immediately claimed that the Republic of New England was responsible, despite their lack of interference with other fishing efforts. The press of the West and the Republic of China immediately followed this with ridicule and rejection, as it soon became blatantly obviously that New England had not stationed any heavy weapons on the island since the 1920s. Foreign governments have accused the government of Korea of trying to provoke a war and tensions, outraged that they'd attempt to renew a global conflict for their own selfish interests.

Review of the Arts

El Nacimiento de una nacion
Type: Moving Picture
Genre: Historical
Producer: Venezuelan National Film Productions
Running Time: 120 minutes
Summary: This film regaled audiences with the birth of the Republic of Venezuela, starting with the invasion of Spain by Napoleon's armies. The ensuing declaration of independence and Spanish efforts to hold onto their fragile empire serve as the backdrop of the movie, until the great Battle of Carabobo, which was filmed on location in Venezuela. The use of historians as well as consultants and investment from Russian film companies have helped make this picture an international success, even within the other nations of South America. Initially intended to serve as a national film of propaganda, it has proven to be surprisingly well done and popular among the various other countries in the region.

Eve of War
Type; Book
Genre: Political
Writer: Jens Larson
Length: 288 pages
Summary: Published in the Swedish Empire, Eve of War issues a dire warning to Europe and North America about the dangers of French Lisism. Raising much ire from the population for his statement that the World Wars were only a small skirmish to the conflict of the future, writer Jens Larson has received massive criticism. Stating that the world run by Lisism is "destined to always live within the eve of war, governed by militarist rhetoric which will lead to the rise of ever larger wars." Larsen argues that ultimately the human race will reach a point where the destructiveness of wars will led to the devolution of mankind. The Lisist regime in France is accused of being the source of the world's future woes in the book, and a catalyst for global destruction. The book has been obviously banned in France and the Co-Axial Pact of Nations, as well as several neutral powers.

The Immigrant
Type: Moving Picture
Genre: Drama
Producer: United Northern Artists Company
Running Time: 189 minutes
Summary: Based off of the popular Jacque Puzo book, which has been translated into a half dozen languages and widely distributed in Europe and North America, The Immigrant has been adapted into a moving picture. This is of great note as this is the first, and presumably not the last, novel to be brought into the world of moving pictures, made particularly special with the author's cooperation. The move is closely tied to the events of the book, but many critics have complained about the great length of the film, which runs just over three hours. The recent crisis in Quebec has also hindered movie sales, though it has received great popularity in France and Western Europe, if not in the Americas.

1948 OLYMPIC GAMES. Saint Augustine, Florida. The International Olympic Games this year were held with much success and fanfare in the tropical city of Saint Augustine, Florida, showing a dawn of a new era for the world. The bitterness left by the war and its aftermath were apparent in the games, despite Floridian efforts to maintain stability. The Games this year consisted of a record amount of tampering and fouls in group sports, and several athletes from France were forcibly deported for attempts to sabotage their competitors on some occasions. The Olympic Football Cup proved to be the most anticipated of the events, with an ultimate French victory in the games, though some observers made claims of cheating. The Socialist Union of South America and other powers made considerable showings in the events, and upon the conclusion, were awarded a sizeable amount of medals. At the conclusion of the games, the International Olympic Committee finally made its announcement on the 1952 Games. After heated debate, the Committee determined to recognize France's role in the establishment of the stability needed for the games to resume, choosing Barcelona as the site for that year's Olympics.

WORLD CUP. Milan, Republic of Italy. The World Cup this year was once again highly competitive, as the various football-participating nations of the global not only sent teams to compete in the Olympic football tournament but these games as well. The Axis-backed events proved to be a highly volatile series, leading to some riots in various countries. One such example would be the Quebec vs. Canada game, held in Montreal early in the year, and the resulting Canadian victory resulting in a riot, forcing the Quebecois government to deploy the military the help the Canadian team exit the stadium. Elsewhere, the tensions of the World Wars seemed to be reflected, as statisticians marked a steady increase in overall fouls as compared to previous years. Ultimately the final two teams standing were from Italy and Honduras in a pitched game in Milan, and in a rough struggle, the Hondurans defeated the Italian team two to one.

AMERICAN CUP. Richmond, Virginian Empire. The American Cup, while remaining overshadowed by the Olympic Games and the World Cup events, still maintains a strong base of popular support throughout North America. This year has seen the resurgence of the Richmond Football Club, one of the best teams before the war, as they regain the respect and prestige that they possessed. The Richmond Football Club managed to trounce every opponent until they reached the final game upon their home turf in the Royal Stadium. They met their opponents, the New Englander San Juan Football Club, which proved mostly successful in preceding games, though they won several times via technicalities or default. This showed obviously in the final game of the season, as the Virginian team crushed them utterly, three goals to none whatsoever, humiliating the New Englander team, and assuring once again, Richmond's place as a football leader.

@luckymoose, you recieved a total of 7 EP through loans. Therefore reconstruction is NOT complete.

ABNW 2.2 NOTE: For A Brave New World 2.2, I will be needing various party names for ALL countries, and this is one of the few things I can start on right away. If you would like to provide a less generic grouping of party names for your country or a country you may be familiar with, please, post on the thread political names for the following genres of political parties. This is of course can be applicable to any country, not just republics, as even dictatorships of ideologies of some kind. To prevent an argument, I consider ideologies in modern terms of "liberal" and "conservative" so keep this in mind. Also a move which would support this effort would be to provide names for legislative (Congress, Parliament, etc.) and executive (President, Prime Minister, etc) branches of your government. The ideologies are as follows, with optional ones marked with apostrophes, as some may not be legal in various countries:
Communist*-Socialist/Syndicalist*-Liberal-Moderate-Conservative-Lisist*(aka fascist)-Reactionary*

Nation stats may be a bit delayed after the update, as I have started the conversion process with some elements of it, and will be leaving notes on the stats posts of which parties have already been added into the database for ABNW 2.2.

Mexico's hopes for close ties with the new Yucatan republic. May both of our people prosper for all time.

Mexico hopes that the situation in Quebec can be resolved swiftly and peacefully. North America returning to true stability will surely benefit all of our nations.

To: Russia
From: China

I am sure we can work out the situation in Manchuria peacefully. The Chinese government sent a proposal for a possible referendum to St. Petersburg some time ago and though no official response ever made it to Lanzhou, we still believe it contains the most fair and balanced options. Our original proposal is located below:

Here is our proposal for possible referendums in the Manchuria area. As you can see, it is broken up into three areas. Each of these is to have a separate referendum.

Spoiler :

I. The Chaoyang Strip was taken by Russia in the early 1900s and never returned to China. It is historically Chinese and it was lost when the illegitimate Chinese Collectives negotiated it away to Russia. As this area is likely most culturally Chinese, we could possibly hold a referendum here first with its outcome determining if the other two referendums are to take place at all. (OOC: If it votes to go with China, we hold the other two, if it votes to go with Russia we can assume the referendum would fail for us everywhere so there is no point).

II. This city is historically Mongolian but sits on the border area also has a large Chinese influence. Because it is a border town and it is difficult to determine the dominant culture we suggest this area be handled separately.

III. Manchuria proper. This area was taken by Russia some time ago. Although the Communist invasion of this area showed us that a significant and very nationalistic Chinese population still exists there, we will understand if the majority of the population has adopted Russian as their identity.

Given that there was little damage, it is probably best to sweep this "Jeju incident" under the carpet. Though we suggest that we all just pretend it never happened, we are happy to act as a mediator if need be.

Your actions against the Maori do not represent what APACS is about. We suggest President Metternich clean up his act or New Zeeland will face consequences. If New Zeeland needs assistance to better the life of its citizens then they should seek to do this through cooperation with their allies, not through forcibly relocating indigenous inhabitants.

Your people seek democratic reform and we suggest you listen to them. The Republic of China has no ill feelings towards Islam and our ally Persia shows not only this, but that your faith is perfectly compatible with democracy as well.

@EQ: I understand stats are screwed up beyond belief but I received my economic bonus and noticed nothing went into my project. It should be at 170 right now, not 150. If this is just because its all temporarily screwy then no worries, but if its a genuine mistake please make sure it gets fixed.

Anyways here is my parties from leftest to rightest:

Spoiler :

Republican Socialist Party (RSP): Basically a standard democratic socialist party. It is not very large due to the Communist losing the civil war and the bad images of SUSA and UCNA that have existed for so long, but it is growing in popularity again; particularly with the some of the educated young adults that don't remember the civil war. It does not have any urban vs. rural focus, favors modernization, opposes keeping a large army and believes in a moderately isolationist foreign policy. It currently has no seats in Parliament and is not part of any coalition. This is the farthest left party as the Communist Party is illegal.

People's Progressive Party (PPP): Probably the best equivalent would be some sort of middle left labor Party. It is primarily composed of the urban working and lower middle classes. It is not very large yet, but it is growing in popularity extremely fast as people flock to the cities and the problems of rural life seem more and more difficult to relate too. It has a more urban focus, favors slow modernization, supports keeping a moderately sized army and is moderately isolationist. It currently has 8/103 and is in the Pan-Blue coalition. This is the standard left party.

Chinese Nationalists Party (KMT): The founding party of the Republic. It is the largest party in China, but is losing members as more and more leave for other parties on both ends of the political spectrum. Its base is composed of the middle class, upper- middle class and the new rich but it regularly garners a lot of support from the rural and urban lower class citizens by playing on nationalistic feelings as well. It is slightly more urban focused than rural, favors free market capitalism, rapid modernization, supports keeping a very strong army and has a very hawkish foreign policy. It currently occupies 53/103 in Parliament and is in the Pan-Blue Coalition. It is the center to center-right party.

Traditional Values Party (TVP): The second largest party in China. It grew rapidly in its early years as the problems of modernization and free market capitalism became more evident but it has since slowed down to a slow steady growth. Its base is primarily farmers, fishermen, and the old aristocracy. It is very rural focused, believes in very slow and steady modernization, opposes keeping a very large army and is fairly isolationist in foreign policy. It currently occupies 32/103 in Parliament and is in the Pan-Yellow Coalition. This is the standard right party.

Restoration Party (RP): Though it was founded with the goal of a restoration of the Imperial monarchy, most actual support for this is dead even within this party. Nonetheless, the party does support a return to Chinese life before the civil wars to the greatest extent possible and advocates such things as moving the capital back to Peking, returning land to the aristocracy and banning electrical and motorized devices. It gets most of its support from the aristocracy and military but pulls some support from extremely rural peasants as well. It is mostly rural focused, opposes almost all modernization, supports keeping a large army and is extremely isolationist. It currently occupies 7/120 seats in Parliament and is in the Pan-Yellow Coalition. This is the reactionary/far right party.

New Alliance Party (NAP): The second smallest besides the Socialist Party, it is an offshoot of the KMT and composed primarily of those who sought to stay within the Co-Axial Pact and attack Russia during the World Wars. It is the most nationalistic of all the parties and its base is primarily ex military leaders and some businessmen. It is neither urban nor rural focused, believes in rapid modernization, supports military rule and is extremely hawkish in foreign policy. It currently occupies 3/103 in Parliament and though it is not in any coalition, it often votes with the Pan-Blue. This is the Listist/Fascist Party.

Now that we have taken the appropriate steps to secure New Jerseyite independence we will immediately return a civilian government to the region.

While the responsibility of policing the border rests upon the shoulders of the New Jerseyites, we will be sure to ensure no more guerilla activities take place under our watch and will instruct the civilian government that any support for the guerillas will be unacceptable and may force our hand into leaving.

From New England

This situation can easily be resolved by Quebec rejoining the Imperial Protectorate. Your ridiculous and selfish actions have severely damaged your country and your economy. We would think that all the help that New England has given you, and the blood of our sons and brothers that has been shed to allow your country to be free, would be appreciated, but that is apparently not the case. Our embargo will continue until you see the error of your ways and do what is best for your people by rejoining the Protectorate.
