Can somebody help me? :(
I play Civ4BTS for a while now, without problems, till yesterday!

I was playing the game, exited the game. Started 'Live Messenger' (which wouldn't work probably)
..... but now BTS won't startup again!
When I try to start it I only get a 'Loading error'
CAUGHT UNHANDLED EXCEPTION CREATING XML PARSEL OBJECT
CURRENT XML FILE IS:

I already uninstalled an re-installed the game, but the same error keeps occuring!
Does somebody know what causes this? And what I have to change to make it work again???

Thx :)

I would reinstall - while purging all files the uninstaller leaves behind as below. Ignore the warlords stuff if you do not have that.

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.19 (download it fresh from here).

......I did every step of the list above...
....restarted my computer.... and Installed and Patched Civ4....
then I thought let's try if this works, but NO  ,
right away the same error on startup as before....
I attached a prt-screen in .jpg now

What can I do?

Also regular Civ4,
I normally play BTS, but during the installation process I thought let's try if this works before Installing and patching BTS!

Never seen that error before? ...that's a bad sign!

Maybe this helps....!

This all started after closing CivBTS (with alt-F4) and immediately starting 'Live Messenger',
(my mother called and couldn't remember the emailaddress she had used for MSN)
I never use it, and it was a long time ago I had opened the Messenger, it also didn't work probably because I couldn't sign in...
.... after solving that, by removing Live Messenger and some other 'Live ...' components,
yes and rebooting after doing so... :)

I wanted to resume the game... since then the problems started :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

it is possible that you somehow removed/corrupted the windows xml parser - you might be able to repair this by installing a parser (see link - download the .msi file and install with that).
Try msxml 3 first: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...91-052B-42FF-9674-F752BDCA9582&displaylang=en
if that fails try the newest one: (first msi file in the list): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...cf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&displaylang=en

I would recommend contacting take two as well though...

Thank you very much!!!:D

I installed msxml3 and the 1.74 patch, rebooted and Civ 4 started !!!!!

:goodjob:

I 'll try BTS after I finished Installing that, but I don't foresee any problems...
I think you were right about the XML parser being corrupted (or something like that)

Thx again, now my weekend finally starts ;)

How do I configure the explorer to show hidden files?
