The Great power of Carthaginians starts from one small island.<br />The start knowledge:<br />Bronze Work<br />Ceremonial Burial<br />Horseback Riding<br />Mysticism<br />Warrior Code

Two settlers standing on the grassland seeing a whale and a fish.

4000 BC Two settlers move on to forrest. One to open the Hut, other will build a city on it, hoping another special resource will appear from the dark.<br />3950 BC Hut: Archer (non) City: Carthage found on forrest, building Phalanx<br />3900 BC This is a small island, Settler move to city, research alphabet(we need map making!)<br />3850 BC Settle irrigate on the city<br />3800 BC <br />3750 BC <br />3700 BC Phalanx built, build settler(need to change to trireme later)<br />3650 BC <br />3600 BC Forrest is gone<br />3550 BC Alphabet is found, research map making<br />3500 BC Built Road<br />3450 BC <br />3400 BC Built Road<br />3350 BC <br />3300 BC irrigating<br />3250 BC Now Carthage has 30K pop.

The ruling of Great Fighter 1st is over. He just disappeared into the ocean, trying to learn more skills to come back to lead the nation again!

Status: 3 more turns for Map making<br /> 15 Gold

Hi, All<br />I did not build the city immediately, hoping to get at least another special resource. I got a fish. So the capital has: one whale, two fishes. Not too bad.<br />I also decided to research Map Making first to explore. Map making will be ready in three turns, and by then we can change settler to trimere, and go exploration!

I sent the saved file to starlifter already. I finished 3300 BC, so the save file is at the beginning of 3250BC.

The Reign of Emperor Starlifter the First begins in 3200 BC

Scribes have be assembled to document the reign for the ages....

3200 The Emperor ordered shield production held at 3 to enable switch to Trireme on the turn Map Making is discovered

3150 Moved NONE archer into capital for Defense

3100 Intense flogging of the wise men resulted in an delivery of Map Making; The Kingdom needs a basic Code of Laws (to get Monarchy ASAP); Immediate production change from Settler to Trireme is ordered... floggings ensure prompt compliance.

3050 Trireme #1, the Empire's first Naval vessel, has been launched with our only Phalanx & elite NONE Settler. Admiral Starlifter has ordered an exploration and preparation of the lands to the east for colonization, and with more floggings, the crews promptly set sail in the direction of the rising sun. The sheer brilliance of Admiral Starlifter made the Empire believe the sun Rises and Sets at his command; Starlifter proclaimed immortal when the Phalanx goes ashore and discovers a rich system of rivers an hills, and the Trireme discovers a magnificent black beast in the waters to the south. As the recently flogged crew was scared and also in pain, their incessant wailing caused the Trireme captain to name the beast a wail. The first mate, realizing Emperor Starlifter would take this as an insult and flog the crew again, convinced the captain to change the name to "whale". So let it be recorded, hereto and forevermore.

On the home front, the ever demanding Emperor Starlifter almost doubled Production by demanding an output of 5 shields, and science cut from 3 to 2... the beaten wise men needed a break anyway. Now a new Settler will be produced in 8 turns. The crew of the trireme is ordered to explore the eastern lands, and determine the contents of the oceans, yet arrive back in the capital with exactly two squares of movement remaining on the turn the settler is produced. The crew complies, and charts a course.

3000 Phalanx moves up river and finds wine; The Phalanx is flogged for discovering swamps in the river, however. The elite NONE Settler builds road on Grassland shield, and will spend the next 4,000 years attending to the needs of the new land.

2950 Trireme finds fish on southeast shore, the crew eats heartily this night.

2900 The new land appears to be but an island.

2850 No riches were found, and the crew expects a flogging upon their return.

2800 The trireme found new Island to north; their glee can scarcely be contained, as this will surely avoid the Emperor's flogging.

2750 Return to Capital for new settlers that will soon be complete

2700 A great road is cut thru first northern hill.

2650 The capital produced Settlers exactly on schedule, and these will found City #2 immediately, and make some more to found city #3; The NONE settler has been ordered to construct a road thru the Wine Hills, which will serve both escape and defense. The hills will be mined, and later, the grassland shields irrigated.

2600 Utica is founded on river bend, and will become the Empire's SSC. The king had intended to call it "Starlifter", but a promise of the city to double the empire's science output allowed the city to keep the less glamorous name of Utica, which sounds more like a prison than a city. Nevertheless, Utica is destined to become the most mighty city in all the world, and will one day produce 77 base trade arrows, which is 14 above a full sized standard city. No city will wallow in more gold. And no expense will be spared for Utica... the Emperor has proclaimed that Utica will never complete an improvement from scratch... all improvements will be RB'd or PRB'd. A rapid series of edicts follow in a flurry: 3 trade routes will be established with PRB'd caravans. Utica shall never produce a settler unless stuck at size 12. A Republic will be established as soon as possible, and Utica will be grown to Max size, no matter what the cost in Luxuries. Though Utica can reach a maximum size of 35, it will likely achieve 32 to one day reach the holy grail of production: 80 shields, providing a hill is one day erected by engineers in a river non-shield grassland, though infernal swamps now infest this fertile area. The first steps in the SDI defense have been taken... The capital and Utica are only three squares apart, and will share an SDI if the rest of the world progresses to nulcear weapons, thus saving 200 shields, or about 380 gold.

In the midst of this important year, Emperor Starlifter has ordered the immediate construction of a great wonder: A gigantic image of a man, which will be named Colossus, because in a slightly inebriated slurring of a question by the King ("Whass our co...losses... ohn this pr..."). What he meant to say was "What are our company's losses on this project"), but the citizens of the kingdom, fearing a flogging, mistook his slurred speech for naming the wonder the "CoLosses", which became know as the Colossus in the fullness of time.

2550 Trireme exploring to the northwest; a new island is found; beatings are postponed!

2500 The Emperor's harsh rule is resulting in science every 7 turns, using fish in capital. Code of Laws will be discovered in 2 turns, perhaps less... then Monarchy (or possibly Writing, Literacy, early Republic). If this map proves to be watery, an early goal might be Marco Polo's, AI tech seeding/jumping, Michelangelo's, and fast advancement to Navigation. As the Emperor surveys his new lands, he firmly proclaims that sufficient terrain has now been discovered to support 6 good cities and ascend into the heavens by the mid 20th century! The kingdom rejoices, but the Emperor Starlifter I dies a sudden death after severing an artery in his flogging arm while beating a gladiator who was holding a sword. It is rumored that Gladiator may some day rise to lead the empire.

37 gold in Treasury, expended zero.<br />----- End Reign of Starlifter I ------

General comments & ideas:

<br />If we are isolated from the AI via water, the game is in the bag, at least via SS. I'm not sure of the exact goal, e.g. conquest, SS, fast finish, etc. As soon as we find a main continent, it's time for hut-popping.

The SSC must be supplied with units from other (support) cities to control happiness. Money must be saved to rush-buy & partially rush buy (PRB) SSC improvements. The SSC should spend it's time making wonders and caravans, and must grow at the expense of all else, preferably in WLTC days of a Republic. If we are isolated, Republic might be advisable over Monarchy, but get there ASAP... no sidetracks in research. At deity, a delay of even one extra tech can lose a later race to Astronomy or Engineering.

After Republic, Philosphy must be obtained and Trade researched ASAP, to get Marco Polo.

Careful trading and "seeding" of the AI ("directed" research), plus correct gifting (watch the key civ), will yield a lot of advances as long as our research stays out of usual AI research lines. We will get all their research for free, LOL...

BTW, we seem to be shield-short in this game so far, so make sure we have a couple diplomats to bribe the barbs... I wouldn't bother with any more miltary units unless the AI shows up.

Good luck, O ye future noble emperors and kings!

<br />For civfighter's thread:

The order of play is<br />1. civfighter (szhuang@lynx.neu.edu)<br />2. starlifter (starlifter@eudoramail.com)<br />3. deimos (deimos@****you.co.uk) (deimos@thetoilet.com)<br />4. Berzerker (berzerker3@excite.com)<br />5. Hell-Raiser (sakke_tq@hotmail.com)

Rules are: <br />-Raging Hordes<br />-Restart is off.<br />-7 Civs<br />-Deity

-15 turns per player<br />-3 days delay to post the game. If game isn't posted the player's turn is reported just after the one who was next to him. (that rule will have to be followed strictly if we want the game to move on)

Misc:

-No Airbases used for irrigation<br />-No Bribing (exept barbarian units of course!).<br />-No Fundy!

Teams have the right to look in the other teams' threads<br /> <hr></blockquote>

OK, I got the game from civfighter a few hours ago, and have finished my 15 turns and send the game on its way to deimos (deimos@thetoilet.com), with a copy to civfighter (since he is the team coordinator).

<br />Is it possible to irrigate a forest once a city is on it? I never thought that possible. If it is, then I've already learned something new that can help out my games.

You guys have a pretty good start going.

Starlifter: hope you're able to stay around for a while, but if you have to leave know that our thoughts will go with you! Hope you will be able to tune back in a few times just to see how the rest of your team is flailing ..

I meant "progressing". <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[LOL]" />

You can irrigate or build forests, transform terrain, etc. You can't start mining hills, though you can finish it if you have started.

Like other Reservists, they'll give me notice beforehand. But my gut feeling tells me it will still be a few months before the call up is fully underway... so no worries. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Well, shows how much I know. I always thought that you could not transform terrain on the city square since it is not possible to make farmland on the square. I know about starting the mining process and then building a city after that begins, but I didn't know about anything else.

I love learning new things - thanks!

Now I know what is confusing you. You cannot perform any task after it has already been performed... that is, the city square automatically gives you irrigated land, and a road. After Railroad, the city square is upgraded to RR, and after a Supermarket is built, the city square can be Farmland (if the terrain type is compatible). The respective funcitons of a settler/engineer will thus be unavailable as orders. So when you saw that "Irrigation" was not possible (since most cities are built on grassland or plains), you assumed it was not possible to "irrigate" a forest.

BTW, for anyone who does not know what we're talking about with the city/mine function. You cannot start mining hills once a city is founded. But you can begin the mining with one unit before a city is founded, then found the city, and at some later date the mine is completed! Look at my GOTM 7, and you'll see I did that exact thing at the northern tip of England (check Nottingham's city status screen) <img src="icon12.gif" border="0"> .

EDIT: Added note about city/mine.

LOL, I probably don't understand something... How can our game help you?

Moreover, is there some sort of "competition" or something? If so, on what basis... to my knowledge, the game was against the AI when I played my turn. I did not see any other humans involved, unless someone was playing an AI telepathically.

So I have no problems posting the maps to keep my teammates informed as the game goes along. And of course, anyone else may have a look and be entertained, too ;).

So Greeks don't "steal" geography... Greeks are gifted geography!

PS, If there is some sort of "competition", the timelines probably contain more useful info than a map...

I just sent an email to deimos and I got the following response:

So if I do not hear from deimos this weekend, I will pass the game to the next person in line, Berzerker. And deimos can jump in when he is ready.

Hello Carthaginians.

Just thought I'd say that we've finished our 4th ruling king compared to your measly 2 :p Better catch up before you're in the dust. Muahahaha!

Also, we're having a bit of a discussion in the Classic Britannia thread regarding a difference in maps. Feel free to join in and give an opinion if you haven't already.

Yes, there is a sort of competition between teams as for hich of the three will win first...

;)

Then let's skip him... it's been a week, and no progress in our game!! NEXT....

Rising to power in an almost ;) bloodless coup, the Berzerker, head of the elite forces, takes control of the mighty Carthaginian empire in 2500 bc...

2500 bc - Utica switches from Colossus to a temple.

2450 bc - Code of Laws discovered, the Magi begin researching Monarchy.

2350 bc - Barbarians arrive at Carthage.

2300 bc - Archer defensive positions prove too much for the Barbarians and the Barbarian leader is captured with a caravan of gold - vet archer now defends the Carthaginian capital and 150 gold is added to the treasury with the irrigation system suffering damage from the attack :(

2200 bc - Utica buys temple and switches to Lighthouse. Malaca founded!

2100 bc - Monarchy discovered, government rebels, Magi seek the art of writing. Settler is bought in Carthage to expand the empire

2050 bc - Government enters the stable status of Monarchy.

1950 bc - Caralis Founded.

1800 bc - Magi discover writing, now seek literacy. Carthage buys another settler.

Carthaginian empire rises quickly to the top of the powergraph with 4 cities, another about to be built, 104 gold in the treasury and a population of 80, 000 people!

I Lost my cd, at least I can't find it
