Hello knowledgeable folks! I need some help with a problem that has been driving me mad.

I have a high end system with 2GB RAM (Corsair DDR2 with EPP enabled @ 1066MHz) and am running WinXP-SP3. My video and audio drivers are all current. I only play single player games. I am good about keeping the most up to date patches and new versions installed. I have been playing Civ4:BTS v3.17 - FfH 2.033f (with media pack installed) & Fall Further 042L. I am currently playing a game with these settings: Big and Small/Epic speed/Emperor difficulty/Huge map/Flavour Start/Broader Alignments/Living World. I have confirmed that this issue also occurs with all non-essential Windows background applications disabled.

The recurring problem is that I see this screen and am forced to restart Civ4 every time I want to load a game. It occurs... when I load a quickload (from within an active game), when I load from an autosave, and when I load any single player game. I have no problems loading a game the FIRST time, after program startup.

I really do not have any major issues other than an occasional CTD. I have been playing with this for a month now and it has gotten progressively worse. It started once in a while, then about every other time, and now occurs every single time.

NOTE: This may or may not be important but I notice that after I load a game, the interface is in transparent format. I reset it to the default by hitting <ctrl>-I twice.

Any advice? Please help!

1) FF 0.42 L is for patch G of ffh2
2) huge maps are VERY ram intensive, 2 gigs is not enough for them. so you can either get more RAM or play smaller maps, that should solve your memory allocation failure problems ;)

Yes, Jackpot, as Gekko said, the problem is with the Huge maps, I think.

I have 4gb of RAM (I have Vista, though) and get those same errors when I re-load like you do in the later game. It is maddening, but there is nothing I know of that you can do except start all over again and load the game, etc.

I didn't used to Quick Save/Load very much (some may say it is cheating ), but with the CTDs I was getting, especially in FF, I started saving after almost every turn. Nothing is worse when you are in the later stages of a game on a Huge map when it is 3 minutes or more between turns and getting a CTD. You have to go back to the AutoSave and that is not fun.

And, yes, I have to admit I have gone back when I lost that Veteran unit with the 99.9% Combat Odds. ;) In the later game, as you mention, though, that would often get me a Memory Allocation Failure.

It all boils down to those Huge maps we love so much. I never had the MAFs on Large maps, but the Huge maps with a lot of civs are so much more fun!
