News from the Kongolesiska Riksdag
In a surprising move today, the Riksdag nearly unanimously voted into effect the first Equality Act of the Kongo. Under the new law, native Afrikaners will have the opportunity to serve in the Kongolesiska military in special Svart Brigader (Black Brigades). This move is intended to create a sense of camaraderie between the ruling Vitt class and the native Svart. In addition, Afrikaner athletes will be allowed to compete for the Kongo Society's greater glory, including the renowned Abessinier runners of the highlands. Many citizens have applauded the revolutionary move, while others say it has not gone far enough. One svart shop-owner in Haraldsholm cynically remarked, "So now I can die for the Kongo Society, but I can't vote?" A bill to extend voting rights to the Svart class has been presented to the Riksdag in the past, though it has never managed to pass.
The Chancellor also announced today that the Kongo Society plans on expand the Empire's already large mining sector. The government has begun issuing permits to local companies in the Katanga, Kasai, and Ituri regions, where copper and cobalt, diamonds, and gold can be found, respectively. The government has also begun a program of taking control of the "ledig mark", the so called "vacant land", i.e. land not directly controlled by native tribes. The Kongo Society plans on using the ledig mark to create plantations of food, palm oil, and cotton. The government has also begun issuing deeds to enterprising Vitt class citizens from Haraldsholm.
The Riksdag had also voted to ban the film, Revolution in Review. The film is being denounced as Proletariat propaganda and all copies of the film in the Kongo have been destroyed.
