Bug Reporting

A unit error occured while playing the Byzantine Empire. The Maceman unit doesn't work. The unit apprears on the screen, and appears to be selectED, however in the bottom of the screen the information displayed is about the previous selected unit, the maceman-unti can be moved across the screen, but not fortified, promoted etc, because the control-buttons and -info are missing. Also the unit has no animations. It slides static over the screen with its arms spread out......

Sounds like an XML problem. Are you using BAT as well? If not, what other MODs are you using? The reason why I ask is because BUG makes no changes to units at all.

BTW - I'll be in Amsterdam on nov 1st.;) On to Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor after that, but still gotta make a token stop there, especially since I"m using KLM.;)

Here are my Python error logs from using BUG on my Vista HTPC. I do have the ini in the right place.

I will try moving the registry entries over from XP, and also try running as a mod.

Thanks.

I'm playing a game as Bismark and BAT487 crashes to desktop when I finish my first settler. Sorry - I don't have a save I can load up.

Here are my Python error logs from using BUG on my Vista HTPC.

From PythonErr.log:

Code:
File "CvPath", line 102, in [B]__getRegValue[/B]
[B]WindowsError[/B]
:
[Errno 2] The system cannot find the file specified

I will try moving the registry entries over from XP.

Try this first; I suspect it will solve the issue. Two keys are used here:

Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
Personal

and

Software\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 - Beyond the Sword
INSTALLDIR

The first one is used to get "c:\Users\Documents" while the second is used to determine the name "Beyond the Sword". Then "My Games" is sandwiched between the two.

The first one succeeds because it is accessed first and the second one fails. So just copy all the keys under the second subkey tree.

@Thornburgh - Check out the latest version from SVN. I moved corporation hammers to the third line (now Buildings & Corporations).

Great, will check it.

You are correct -- all I needed was the registry key holding the BTS executable directory. Funny the game ran without it otherwise. Thanks.

When downloading this incredible pack (again my compliments!) I first tried the selfextracting file from the Sourceforge.net (it also had the changed unit appearences), but after that I realized I needed to be able to update the file as errors were to be corrected in the mean time. So I looked to install the modpack with SVN as descibed in the "latest version" thread. However, while installing it aksed if I would like BUG, BAT or both. Since I didn't know wether to choose from BUG or BAT (What exacly is BAT?) I selected both and installed them both.
Which version I had installed? Don't know but I think it had been a week since my last SVN update. I'm running Civ4+Warlords+BTS. BTS without the 3.13 patch. I did the patch yesterday and also a new SVN update, but the old savegame doesn't work anymore (systemcrash after loading) :( . So I had to start a new game..... Oh well, haven't tried playing the sumerian empire yet ;) .

Keep up the good work! Maybe we can see ethnic industrial and modern units aswell appearing in the mod (Danrell has made some nice ones)... :goodjob:

BUG

BUG is a mod that has interface improvements to the screens (main screen, city screen, and some advisors).

If you are seeing a blank interface (just the map -- no buttons) or some screens just look funny, this is likely a Python problem with BUG.

To help with this, turn on Logging in the CivIV.ini and post PythonErr.log from the logs directory of BtS. It will contain file names like CvMainInterface.py and line numbers.

BAT

BAT is a mod that adds new graphics for units, buildings, and other artistic elements.

If you are getting crashes (CTD or Crash to Desktop), this is likely an XML problem with BAT.

There's not much you can do except tell us when it crashed (startup or during a game) and if during a game, what you had just done (first unit built of a new type).

Thanks for the clear explanation.

Well then, the Byzantine maceman is an artistic addition so BAT then? But it had a blank interface, or the interface from the previous selected unit, so is it BUG/? But the unit has no animations either... So the problem must be in BAT then? I guess?

The crash (it was CTD) mentioned above.. It happend immediately upon completing loading a saved game. But I don't think BAT has had anything to do with it. I think it was related to loadind a pre-3.13 save game after updating to 3.13. Since the new game I started seems to run fine. I've only played a couple of turns, but completed at least a couple of Warriors and a Settler.

I got the 'crash to desktop' last night opening the log when not using BUG. Game started using BUG, played a bit with no mod and 'crash' when I tried to open the log. That error is still there (487).

Re the clock ... the option screen says ...

  • Standard / Alternate View(s)
    • Clock
    • Completed Turns
    • Total Turns (Time Victory Only)
    • Completed Percentage
    • Game Date and Golden Age Turns

Shouldn't this be ...

  • Standard / Alternate View(s)
    • Clock
    • Completed Turns
    • Total Turns (if Time Victory incl)
    • Completed Percentage (if Time Victory incl)
    • Game Date and Golden Age Turns

... because I read this as 'total turns' is displayed if you select time victory and no other victory condition.

Completed Percentage (if Time Victory incl)

Fixed. I moved it into the hover text for both items (4 actually, normal and alternate) rather than have it in the checkboxes.

Yes for the BAT questions. By "it had a blank interface", what is "it"? When I say no interface, I mean that when the game starts up all you see is a map with units -- no buttons, no minimap, no "stack" window, no research progress bar, no clock, nada. It sounds to me like you're talking more about the button for the unit when you select the stack; is that correct?

Pre-3.13 saves should work fine post-3.13. BUG has done nothing to break saved-game compatibility. My guess is the saved game you loaded used a unit that activated a BAT problem. The new game you started probably just doesn't have that unit created yet. This is all conjecture. Could you please post the saved game that fails so the BAT team can diagnose the issue?

@Ruff - :( Could you please post the saved game so I can check it out? I just don't see how BUG could be causing a crash. Civ4 has never crashed on me, even with all my Python fiddling. Of course, having said that it will likely crash the very next time I launch it.

I mean indeed that the Maceman unit had no buttons to control the unit, the on the bottomleft it doens't display information about the unit. If you had a unit selected prior to the maceman you see that information (e.g. You moved a work-boat, next-up is the maceman, You see the maceman sitting on the map, not moving with its arms wide open, and in de bottom of the screen you'll see buttons that belong to the Work-boat, so I can start fishing with this maceman (?). Also in the bottomleft it would display that work-boat and not the maceman). You are able to select the unit and to move it around. But with no control-buttons you cannot, fortify, promote etc. Another thing I discover just now, In the civiliopedia the unit doen't appear either. When playing the Byzantine empire, select Maceman from the Civilopedia: you'll just see the Icon for a maceman, nothing else.

Since the only thing I did was execute the patch and updating BUG and BAT (the save game was also running Bug and Bat) I asumed it had to do with the patch. I'll have to see if a have a savegame available, 'cause I saved the new game over the game already. Perhaps there's an autosave, I'll check tonight.

I don't know what I've done now... Last night I've updated through SVN (BAT and BUG) and now I cannot start a game anymore. When starting a new game It crashes (CTD with errormessage) when Initializing the game at the of Initializing Graphics (2nd step of the progressbar). Have not tried loading a saved game.

It was fixed again by downloading the BAT (FBUGMOD_006.exe) from the sourceforge net (i.e. restored to not updated version). Is there a problem with the files on SVN, or is it just me?

I'm not using any other mod's

Walbeek, BAT isn't stable with 3.13. I need to get off my ass to get those last 2 files merged.... will try and get BAT up and set up properly before I leave.

Thank you. I hope you can find the time before you fly of to Amsterdam. By that time, will updating SVN do the trick?:goodjob:

@EmperorFool: Since the problem obviously is already known, as stated by Alerum and the CTD occured áfter the 3.13 patch, I don't think you need the save game anymore, do you? If you do, please reply and I'll do so.

The problem with the maceman occured before the patch, don't know if it is resolved with a SVN update, can't check it very well now, can I :)

Can somebody verify my problem, with the latest BAT update, but without patch 3.13??? Open a game as the byzantine empire, go to the Civilopedia and select the maceman-unit. Nothing appears in my version except the maceman icon. No text, no example-image.... Thank U
