This Unit will represent the Imperial German Infantry during the first years of the Great War. It is based on Nonnob's Grenadier and my thought is to make the Kaiserjäger upgrade to the Grenadier. Before the introduction of real Steel Helmets (which were to integrate clips for a better fitting of the gas masks and had been on the OHL's wishlist eversince the start of the war) to guard the troops from enemy fire, shrapnel and debry, the German Soldier would wear the traditional headgear of the hight of power of the Prussian Kingdom. While the uniform had already adopted the purposefull "Feldgrau" (Field Grey), the Pickelhaube would not offer much of a protection- with the side effect being that far greater numbers of fatal head injuries ocurred on the German side of the trenches than amongst the Allied ranks. Nonetheless, the German soldier fought with the renown headgear until late 1917 until it was replace by the "Modell 16" designed by renown Military Doctor August Bier.

Maybe its mee sitting up all night, or does this unit look a little cartoonish?

I think it only looks 'cartoonish' because the preview is a bit
large... ::shrugs::

Looks good, though I'm going to have to make up new
designations to add yet another German gunner.

He's going to lose the backpack, right? ;)

NP pearl jam longing to belong

Hmmm, backpack... backpack- I'd like to make a modification to the sleeping bag roll so it goes around the bag. Don't know how to do that at the time, tho... any sugestions ??

The first image is part of a picture that has been enlarged- that's why it looks a bit cartoonish. :)

What about a german rifleman? A german rifleman for the Franco-Prussian War would be great.

I have been waiting a long time for a 19th Century German rifleman.
Go Winter! :)

I do wonder if the rifleman (as opposed to infantry) unit would be a better base model, with the striped pants and no backpack. I'm not sure...

Either way, I think a big nasty bayonette is in order. :D

I wonder why Firaxis put the Union Civil War rifleman as the rifleman. I suppose it's a good choice. I probably would have preferred a European one though.

Yeah. And heaven forbid they make an alternate unit for European civs. I guess the cavalry was distinctly European.

Well, the cavalry was distintively non-associable with any Civ I know...

Steph - That's what I was thinking, despite the fact that cavalry rarely used rifles until the Civil War because loading them on horseback was impractical.
