I found this game a while ago, it was the game of the month in the german civ-forum some month ago.

It´s a handmade "Always War" map. You play as Rome and have a nice and strong starting location with some other strong sites for cities nearby.

Downside is that you play against the meanest warmongers and that they know you and your starting position right from the start:p

So better get some defences up in time:D

...

If you might live long enough to find out the truth about Russia, you might get another, lets say... ...umh... ...pleasant?... ...surprise:mischief:

...

Like the title says, it´s gonna be a nice (and very likely short) game and a fun challange for all players and level. Just dont expect to win, goal is to survive as long as possible.

...

Here are the specific goals sorted out by playlevel:

Prince level players and below:
Survive until 500 BC

Monarch level players:
Survive until 500 AD

Emperor level players:
Survive until 1000 AD

Immortal level players:
Survive until 1500 AD

Deity level players:
Try to win

...

The above mentioned timeline is also when and where you should submit your saves and reports, no matter what level you play. So an immortal player should post a first save and report at 500 BC and so on.

...

Please post all reports in spoilers

...

The report should contain at least 1 picture of your empire, the save and a short description what you did, how you did it and why you did it:goodjob:

Please also do a report when you get defeated, including the year when it happened and a save the turn before it happened. If I find the time, I will do a seperate scorelist for all the above mentioned playlevels after this game has officially ended, based on the date of defeat (that´s also why you have to write your playlevel AND your nickname as the name of your leader.

...

Some other important points to note:
- Worldbuilder is disabled:)
- Please replace QG30nickname with your playlevel AND nickname, for exemple: snaatysettler
- There are no rules. Feel free to load, save and replay at your with. But please write it in your report when you did this, or even better, when and why you did this (like, reloaded 5 times up to 500 BC, because...)
- Please dont skip any checkpoint, better do 2 short reports then 1 long one
- Always write the year up to which you played in the title of the spoiler

...

Here´s the start:

from quick view it is not going under BUG as it should... It just locked assets or something else was done to save?

No Monte and Nap?

I was thinking of playing something similar.

^ yup

My idea would have been to put the human civ in the middle of a pangea map, surrounded by Monte, Shaka, Nap, Alex, Ragnar, Genghis, and Julius. Although I wouldn't have been so cruel as to put the settings to always war (but the aggressive AI option would have been checked).

AW means these Ais are also at war with each other? Guess so since it would be extremely difficult if not.

I'm pretty sure always war means only the player is at war with all the AIs. That's the danger as well - those guys will never go to war with each other and will have good relations because of common enemy so they will trade freely and tech pretty well as a result. Add the fact they are all warmongers as well and that it is deity level!!!

I gave this a try, ended up resigning ~800BC. Definitely a much more significant challenge than I thought it would be.

Spoiler :
In my first attempt I wasn't thinking much about this being on deity. I was planning on going after TGW, but Stalin ended that hope early:

All of a sudden its 2100BC and there are 8 barbs in my territory. I fought them off well enough, but all of the extra hammers spent on fogbusters and extra units eventually got to me.

I tried again this time beelining the Great Wall. Tech path was masonry, BW, and build order was worker, GW. I don't know if that's the fastest way to get it, but I did get it ~2600BC. From there I got a settler out to settle the elephants to the south, and I took a barb city guarded by a single warrior to the east, claiming some food and horses in the BFC. After that I built another worker and a barracks in the capital, and pretty much nothing else except for military units.

The first SoD was from Shaka, it beelined my capital ~1600BC. With only archers, it didn't do any damage:

I got a few more turns to build some reinforcements, and then the enemies got serious. ~900BC I saw my first large stack. Ragnar had an SoD of 11 units. 5 were archers, with the rest split between axes and swords. Somehow my 2 prats and an axe held my city. Gotta love hills.

Next turn, GK's SoD complete with keshiks showed up. I reinforced the city enough to hold again:

Unfortunately, after that I was left with another stack of GK's and Shaka's first actual stack a few turns away. I may have been able to hold them off by whipping some more prats, but I doubt it.

Apparently the screenshot of my empire didn't save, but I think you can see my three cities in the other ones. I'm interested to see how others play this game, I couldn't even get to catapults. I'm guessing just mass horse archers to flank away everything.

AW means these Ais are also at war with each other? Guess so since it would be extremely difficult if not.

:Dnope... ...HI against ALL... ...and techtrades are fully ON

...

The above stated goals are ment serious. And not easy at all to archive I´d say, if you are honest about your playlevel.

...

P.S.:
The best player in the official game of the month in the german forum managed to surive bit more then the 1650th, all in all I think it were only 5 or so lasting longer then 1500 AD:)

Okay, slight problem...how do we change the difficulty?

I tried changing file type to a BTS Worldbuilder Save, but the game couldn't read it...

Edit: Really, Snaaty? Damn. AIs teching at Deity level (while I'm just a prince...) combined with better production and settlement bonuses...rrgh. IT SHALT BE A TEST OF MY METTLE! RRRAARGH!!!! I SHALT CONQUER THE BEASTS! (by which I mean, somehow survive to 500 BC)

Edit2:

Spoiler :
Wow, I got destroyed. Shaka's Scout in the first five turns, barbarian warriors and archers within the first twenty...damn. I should have REXd a bit harder IMO, snagged three good cities and just defended. Orrrr....hmmm. I founded Buddhism for the defensive cultural bonuses. I'm thinking that hitting Hunting -> Archery -> Agriculture - > BW -> IW would provide the best results. Play a pure OCC! I'll post my results later.

Edit: Ai Shizuka I have both BlueMarble terrains and Bug installed, and it worked fine...hmm. Did you install EVERYTHING in BlueMarble? I only kept the graphics, that could be why...hmmm.

Success! (survived till 500 BC, normally play on Prince) :goodjob:

Spoiler :
Techpath, as mentioned above, went: Hunting->Archery->Agriculture->The Wheel-> BW -> Mysticism -> Polytheism -> IW.

Weird, I know, but it paid off bigtime. Buildpath went Barracks-Worker-Archer-Stonehenge/whipped units -> Axe/Archer/Spear/Praet whipped/chopped. I plkayed a purely defensive OCC. Scary to think that some players actually dominate on Deity! You truly are GODS!!!! :goodjob: Ohh man, I haven;t had this much fun playing Civ in a while...netted two GGs, one made a Warlord, the other settled. In the last three turns, I went on strike, and my Gold was pillaged (my Iron would have been, but Shaka's archer was withdrawn for combat roles). Ragnar, Shaka, and Genghis all attacked simultaneously, Genghis bringing 2 Keshiks and 10 Chariots, Shaka bringing 6 IMpis and 10 Swords, and Ragnar bringing an assortment of Spears, Swords, and Axes. Repelled them all! :goodjob:

Attached is the save:

Noble/Prince 500BC
Spoiler :
Never played at Deity, funnily enough, what with me being a Noble to Prince player. Was this a standard amount of Barbs or is this Raging Barbs as well as Always War?? Anywho, settled in place, worker first, whcih probably turned out to be a waste of hammers as it was very rare there was a space for him to work tiles. Building Warriors until Archers available, built Barracks & Walls when Barbs and AI relented. See how long I last.

Death 275AD
Spoiler :
Happy enough with my performance, I am sure that people will survice much much longer than I did, but I will eat my virtual hat if anyone can beat that. Death screen below.
