I tend to be a pious ruler. Because of that production by whip is not an option, but it has came to my attention that by being nice to my people the other civs end with a not better but bigger army.

My request is this:

I need a whip policy for my nation. Any ideas? :whipped:

1. Whip the newly captured cities.

2. Whip the far away cities that are incapable of producing anything but food (either high corruption or low shield level)

3. Once started whipping, do not stop until the population become too small.

4. Whip to get the temple first.

5. Many better ideas are posted in the War Academy

there is actually a very good article on war academy on massive poprush.

Me too. However, I use the whip (never more than one pop) in border cities to rush the temple. This is the firm hand of the ruler in an important cause, and not mere cruelty.

I switch to Republic as soon as possible and rush-buy.

Yeah, the bordercity whip work well on my last game, but a greek invation toke things out of hand. Now they hate me.

But I lead in culture, so then can do little about it. :D

Whipping, I gotta say I hate whipping. I use it only if I have to, & since I make a beeline for Republic I don't have to whip rush very often. I also lowered corruption in my mod so no need to whip outlying areas:)

I'mwith mad bomber. Not modded at all but I just can't be bothered with whipping. Use conscription aLOT in the later game though. Maybe this is just too simplistic but if you have a well connected empire why would you need to whip, there are plenty of periods when no infrastructure can be built in your core cities, so long as the outlying regions are well defended does it really marrer that hald the population is entertaining the other half? Or even that you only get one shield a turn out of the bugger?
Which reminds me surely they should be happy as larks with all that corruption going on? It's not like the resources disappear, the people are stealing everything, they all have top of the range dvd s and flat panel tvs the swine!

I have whipped cities into the ground then sold the improvements and given a poisoned chalice to the AI v4 now but that was just naughtiness

I rarely whip my citizen; it's just not my style.:)

Whipping is good, something they are just asking for it.... with their revolt and slow production, otherwise they'll never learn.

How do you like it if you are at the receiving end?:D

I little bit of S&M wouldnt hurt. Bring it on! Just don't do it too hard, I have to go to work tomorrow.

Revolt is a major problem in late game conquest. If you managed to capture a city, the choices are:
1. Keep it and wait to the population to starve
2. Raze it and get tons of workers and no city
3. Keep it and whip the citizens for the greater good of humanity.

This is like inventing a guillotine to reduce the pain of execution. I am not much of a fan of cap punishment myself but you get the idea...

Regarding the original question, whip early and often. For every 2 luxuries you have, you can whip a city every 20 turns with no real penalties. Combine this with an ICS style city placing and you can get some real production out of all those totally corrupt cities.

If I decide to keep the city, I won't starve them to dead. I just simply rush a settler in every turn. Since I'm usually in democracy, I can afford to pay 160 golds to rush a new settler in every turn. Once the civ completely wipe out, I will have those settlers to rejoin the city.

You have gone a great length to uphold your integrity. You have earned my greatest admiration (if this mean anything).

Captured cities, take the buggers off the land and have them as scientists or taxmen. Let them die until their parent civ is wiped. Then it's usually a worker pump.
