Is there ANY WAY WHATSOEVER to make it so i can keep playing in a game forever w/o the limit so i can play until i win?

not that I know or anyone else has ever admitted - I think it is hard coded into the game so cannot be modified.

I don't even know if it would work. The AI would surely catch up with you. Maybe if you're aiming for a cultural victory.

When you set up the game, try disabling the option 'Allow Histograph Victory.' That might work. Personally, I've never don that. If you never want the game to end, uncheck all the victory options. I've heard stories of total nuclear annihiliation around the year 7,000...

There is no 'allow histographic victory' option. You can always play beyond 2050 A.D., it's just after that there is no music and you can't trigger any victory conditions.

There was some save game editors that allowed you to change the mandatory retirement date, but they were all for previous patches. I don't know about the CMT (Civ3 Multi Tool), though, I just downloaded it and seeing if there is something in that program that gives you that ability. If this program doesn't let you change the retirement date, then there isn't a way to change it with 1.29f.

Aha! Yes, you can play 'forever'!

Gramphos's Civ3 Multi Tool program enables it.

I think you have to download the full install from the first page of the thread I am going to post, but make sure you use the latest files that he posted on this page:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=438149#post438149

His latest version (c3mto-95-1001) worked for me after I just put those files into the same folder from his previous version, allowing it to over-write any files with the same name.

Changing the ending date doesn't seem to have any effect on the number of turns you have left, however, you can change what turn you are playing. for example, I loaded a save from 1790 A.D., changed the current date to -3950 (for 3950 B.C.), and the game now considers that only 1 turn has passed, so now I have 539 more turns to play!

Edit: Yes, you can change the ending date and play more turns. It just keeps going at the 1 year/turn. So you could play 1000 turns instead of 540, by setting the retirement date at 2510 A.D. You don't notice the changes until you click on something else.

I loaded the game back up, and sure enough, it was as good as I had hoped for. Most of the world (180X180 world map) was settled, yet it was only 3950 B.C.

Just make sure you put in a correct civ3 date. I'm not sure if this causes some problems with things like when a culture improvement would get it's doubling bonus, but if you need more time to conquer the whole world, this is the way to go! (see pic below).

News flash: There's a new version (down more) so be cautious - don't download the first unless you must - I am not sure.

I put that in the Edit. Did you see my edit?

At first when I changed the game ending date, it didn't look like it actually changed until I would click somewhere else. Because I would type in 2500, yet it still showed only 540 turns. So, at first I thought you had to turn the current date back.

Does time affect your score? ie. do you get a bonsu for quickly winning as compared to taking till 2510AD?

Thanks heaps Bamspeedy for this info. :D I also was asking in the newbie thread about this same topic just yesterday. Civ3 will never be the same without the rude interruption. Usually by the retirement year I was just getting my war industry cranked up, finishing tech research and gaining the initiative on the bullies.

When I first started playing I used to find it very hard to get towards winning by the 2050 limit... But after you play a lot you find its not that hard adds an extra element of planning. But it seems cool to be able to extend the deadline so you can actually win not just play for the hell of it after the deadline

Then, how is it done? You crank up the research or what? I discovered that only when I play in modded games I can hit the Medieval Ages in early. Only in one game I hit the Medieval in 600 AD, and that was becaues I built the Great Library.
