any ideas as to what to put in it ie special units/buildings?
oh and ofcoarse a passionate hate for the English
cheers

Scotland Rules  :goodjob:

u should make a map of the british isles with it...then u could also make another civlisation such as the celts and you could have england, scotland welsh, irish and maybe even france battling it out for control of the british isles!

A kilted higland berserker armed with big, mean looking, claymore sword and some blue paint on the face... With Mel Gibson sounds when attacking...

Actually you can add animations, if you know how to make the .FLC files and animate.

Yes, the Highlander should be the UU for the Scots, replacing the Swordsman.

Maybe don't make it any faster or stronger than the Swordsman, just a lot cheaper to build. :yeah:

IMHO (as a Campbell on my mother's side, and married to a Sutherland) the Scots should be commercial and militaristic :yeah: (although commercial/scientific and commercial/industrious are also plausible).

Vyanvotts:

There was a board game that came out in the 80's, called Britannia, published by Avalon Hill and also by Gibson Games.

See http://users.skynet.be/britannia/

It starts with Julius Caesar's invasion of Britain and ends just after William the Conqueror's invasion. (Of course, in the game, it could turn out that Harold the Great, Defender of Saxon England, defeats William the Pretender at Hastings, just as he had defeated Harald Hardrada at Stamford Bridge weeks before!)

Even before seeing your post, I had been thinking it would make a great Civ3 scenario, with a small to medium map of just the British Isles and several civs competing for dominance:

Native Prior to Roman Invasion (7 or 8):
Belgae :frog:
Caledonians
Brigantes
Welsh
Picts
Irish (in a Civ3 scenario, probably would want to break up the Irish into the Ui Niall and the Dal Cais)
Scots (actually begin in Ulster)

Invaders (8 or 9):
Romans [Julius Caesar]
Angles
Saxons :skull: [Harold, other leaders]
Jutes (could be combined with Angles, or made into early Danes)
Norsemen :viking:
Dubliners :viking:
Danes :viking:
Norwegians :viking: [Harald Hardrada]
Normans [William] :king:

As with the Britannia board game, the scenario could be set up to run from about 40 BC to about 1100 AD. The Space Race and Diplomatic victories would be turned off, leaving victory possible by Conquest, Cultural Domination, or Histogram Rating.

Now, in a perfect world, the different invaders would come in at different times, with their own unique leaders and with an invasion force already built. I don't know how to manage that in the Editor.

But the scenario, properly developed, could easily be one of the best!

is there a way of making the resources only available to one civ?

because i was thinking about doing something like the cow but having wee haggis instead that only the scots could use.

Don't you think Scientific/Industrious would be better?

Scientific - Pennicilin, TV, etc.

Industrious - Clyde shipping yards, North Sea oil, etc.

atm i have them as militaristic and scientific
with the special unit an Axe Warrior stats 3.2.2 needs iron to build
although i would like to change it to a guy with a kilt and a claymore

You raise a good point about the Scots' contributions to science. They can also claim credit for Dolly, the first cloned sheep. That the Scots would succeed in the first cloned sheep should not surprise anyone, since the Scots have been conducting experiments involving human intervention into sheep reproduction for as long as there have been sheep in Scotland. (Aye, the shepherd may have a wife or a bonnie lass at home, but she's away over hills and mountains, and the sheep are right here... "Ah love ewe!").

Seriously, the Scots have excelled in so many categories, it's hard to give just two special characteristics to a Scottish civ. But above all others, I believe Commercial has to be first -- look at the history of the Scots' participation in the economic development of the English-speaking world (England's rise to prominence, the development of North America, and so forth). Remember, Adam Smith was a Scot!

After Commercial, the other characteristic for a Scottish civ could be almost anything: Militaristic, Industrious, Scientific. Expansionist might not be as good a fit -- there have been Scot explorers, but several other cultures' exploratory accomplishments probably outweigh those of the Scots. Religious might not be the best fit either -- the Scots have had waves of religious zeal, especially during the strongest period of Calvinism, but I don't see religion as one of two primary defining characteristics.

It will be an interesting and popular alternate Civ to play, as will be the Irish. :goodjob:
