Lands of the Galaxy: Circuitria (A CircuiNES)

Thanks!
Sorry about my horrible attention to math (got what you meant with +50 to every building, then promptly removed the Church and forgot it again :'P), we're celebrating Christmas the 24th here in Hong Kong cuz of my family's Norwegian tradition, so I've been really out of it today.

Fixed (changes in italisk):

House Indigo/Toteone
Leader: Borsch Milfeulle
Government: Feudal Monarchy
Color: Indigo
Starting Location: N21
Credits: 0
Ruins Controlled: 0
Imperial Favor: 6
Background: *constructing*
Initial Spending/N21: 1 HQ (550), 1 Settlement (450), 8 Militia (8x25=200)

So what favors does the Empire provide? Like, for example, how much would it do (and how fast could it do it) if its favorite faction by far came close to extinction?
Thank you.

The Empire will usually provide credits or troops. If your Imperial Favor were 12, you'd probably be receiving a constant supply of IST units, but the Empire may not be willing to guarantee the survival of a faction.

Oh hey, 50 credits to up one level?
Isn't that a bit too cheap? If for example I rent out a ruin for 400 points and some pocket change every round I could take 300 out and receive IST units steadily as long as I don't upset them.
The IST looks nifty~

For those of you who have posted your stats and initial spending orders: you're good to go.

For those who have expressed interest but haven't posted stats or spending: Updating is likely to begin tomorrow, and if you haven't completed those factors, you'll be left behind in the first update. There's no cut off date at which point you won't be able to join, but you'll miss the head start the others have. This is your only warning.

There are orders to be sent? Or do you mean you have pm'd your spending?!

From the "you're good to go", since we haven't been told there's going to be an update 0 relating how we arrive to Circuitria and considering that the initial spending is supposed to be what we arrive there with, I inferred that we had to send orders. Of course, if we don't have to, then Circuit will either ignore them (if there's going to be an Update 0) or use them for the actual Update 1.

Red Raiders/Matt0088

  • 1 Custom Broker (50 c)

Back Story: The generalized story is, the Red Raiders form the mercenary division of the galactic Rouge Corporation, which has become interested and invested in unique situation and possibilities Circuitria now presents. I’ll flesh this out later.

Yes, I changed my spot, M3 wasn’t all that great, X8 is.:D

:salute:

Sciuridae Collective of Circutria
Leader: A-001
Government: Federation
Color: Brown
Starting Location: [M3]
Credits: 0
Ruins Controlled: 0
Imperial Favor: 6

Spending Orders
- Spend 500 credits on a Headquarters (M3).
- Spend 400 credits on a Settlement in (M3).
- Spend 150 credits on an Armored Assault Vehicle (M3).
- Spend 150 credits on three Regulars (M3).

Backstory
The Sciuridae Collective of Circutria is the planet's population of the galactic Sciuridae species. They have adopted human technologies and likenesses in order to better deal with humans, with whom the Sciuridae are commonly living. Many pilot "fleshsuits", which gives them a much larger range of abilities, which their small, fuzzy bodies could not normally do.

That's much better, DarthNader. Thank you! Building on M3 costs 100 credits more because it's a beach, but I'll simply give you one Regular instead of three to compensate. You will be in Update 0.

To everyone: I plan to get started on writing Update 0 tonight. That's not a promise, but whatever's below a promise.

Turn 0: The Unsettled Plains

My name is Peterr Machiavicho, Imperial historian for our Great and Holy Emperor Sadaru III, entrusted with recording the history of the planet Circuitria. May the Emperor's greatness, rather than my own, be highlighted with these historical documents.

The planet Circuitria had become a rather hostile planet by 3488 A.E.. Circuitria is not like most planets under the banner of our glorious Galactic Imperium. There is no single government of Circuitria, supported by the Imperium. Long ago, the settlers of Circuitria, in deffiance of Imperial law, banded together into separate states, rather than uniting under the banner of the Imperium or a legal Imperial authority. Initially, the glorious Emperor Sadaru II ordered the Imperial Navy to break up the many new states on Circuitria, and reassert the authority of the Imperium and install a governor. But the separate governments exploited the resources of Circuitria in such a way that it became more advantageous for the Holy Emperor to allow the states for the moment rather than attack with the Imperial Navy.

What had happened to change the mind of the Emperor? An asset of Circuitria, of critical importance to the Imperial state, was seized and threatened by the occupants of Circuitria: ancient ruins. These ruins do not appear to have come from a human settlement; in fact, no registered Imperial species seems to have built the magnificent structures, many millenia ago. The ruins, shrouded in mystery, have been the subject of intense archaeological inquiry for as long as the archaeological societies of the Imperium have been aware of them...and unable to unlock their mysteries. What race built the structures, and why they no longer exist, is a topic that is of value to the Imperium...valuable enough to provide an exception to Imperial law for Circuitria.

While the wisdom of a Holy Emperor can never be questioned, the result of the exemption for Circuitria has been bloodshed over the ruins. While the ruins themselves have remained relatively untouched, thanks to international treaties between the factions of Circuitria, created after a bombing run by one of the factions damaged ruins and threatened Imperial invasion, war over the ruins has existed for as long as the states have. The fees charged by the factions has brought great wealth, and the more ruins controlled by a faction, the greater the potential for wealth, making the ruins points of serious contention and heavy fighting. Most of Circuitria has been touched by the violence. Amidst it, empires have risen and fallen. By the beginning of 3488 A.E., the Malovichi Union of Settlements dominated the northern continent, Wrichi, uncontested by any continental power. On the massive continent of Dozui to the East, a great war ensues between the tyrannical Talgarian Empire and her puppets, and the Tralfar Confederacy and her allies. Far to the west, the Holy Alliance of Circuitrian Settlements, a theocracy aligned with the Galactic Church of Eshoertu, builds an empire amongst the island chains of the Gralonic Sea. And on the southern continent of Gulajia, the great nation of Salvaria sits peacefully amongst its neighbors.

To the northwest of Salvaria, though, is the jungles and plains of Guardarnetaria. For a long time, the plains have been uninhabited, a frontier of Circuitria. A species of animal called Holeata roamed its plains and jungles, preying on any humans that dared to enter the plains. No amount of weaponry or armor could protect prospective settlers from its diamond-sharp claws and high speeds of propulsion. So the region remained untouched by (intelligent) settlers. But near the year 3486 A.E., a virus began to spread amongst the herds of Holeata. In two months, the species was considered endangered, and by the middle of 3488 A.E., the last Holeata had died, rendering the species extinct. Talk of expansion into Holeata began. At the beginning of 3488, the first settlers arrived.

Sakin Alool was the first to lead settlers into the Guardanetarian basin. They were a band of refugees from the wars of Dozui, leaving territory recently annexed by the Kingdom of Klaphis, one of the allies of the Tralfar Confederacy. He and his followers took flight, gliding across the Frenalian Ocean and the Sardonic Sea to a site bordering a swamp to the south, and ancient gardens to the east, a prime ruin to claim. His followers constructed a settlement named Jagadoon, a capitol, and a church, thus beginning the Jaggonite state. Sakin Alool took control of the settlement under "emergency power", stating that until a future government can be established, his decrees are the law. Many within Jagadoon doubt that Alool will ever give up his "emergency power", considering that he was a general for the Talgarian Empire prior. Of course, for many, that's not a concern either, so long as Alool keeps Jaggonite safe.

Seeing as the Jaggonite had survived for a month, others began to consider the prospect of settling Guardanetaria. Amongst those were a class of citizens known as the Sciuridae. The sciuridae differed from the majority of Circuitrian inhabitants in one respect: they weren't human. Granted, many mistook them for humans, due to the sophistication of the "fleshsuits" they manufactured, which compensated for the many defficiencies that their tiny, fluffy, physical bodies left them in human Imperial society. But they thought differently from humans, and behaved differently. Some, under the leadership of a Sciuridae named A-001, decided to secede from the human population and form their own separate settlement on Circuitria. They founded the settlement SET-x001 in the middle of the great beach bordering the Sardonic Sea. With it, the Sciuridae Collective of Circutria began. It was marketed throughout Circuitria as a safe, separate refuge for the sciuridae population of Circuitria. Soon, sciuridae flocked to SET-x001, making it the single settlement filled entirely with sciuridae on the planet. In fact, it may be the only place where sciuridae may be found on Circuitria.

Around the time SET-x001 was founded, House Indigo, a noble Imperial house, was forced to capitulate to the Malovichi Union of Settlements when the Union seized one of the settlements under House Indigo's posession. Not wanting to be booted off the planet completely, the House used the funds offered by the Malovichi Union in the peace agreement to construct a new settlement in Guardanetaria, named New Indigis (the name of the seized settlement was Indigis), situated right next to the demilitarized zone of an ancient building, buried beneath the sand. The House appointed Borsch Milfeulle, the son of Marafiti Indigo Milfeulle, to head the settlement and all future House Indigo settlements as Leotus [an English translation would be "minor king", but there's much more honor in the title than the translation implies, due to the scale of leotus authority; a leotus may even surpass kings as we know them in authority]. Borsch Milfeulle organized his dominion into a feudal monarchy, himself at the top, bringing in many lower members (many of whom part of House Indigo) to serve in the governance of his kingdom. Leotus Borsch Milfeulle, a very blessed man, was also cursed, though, with the obligation of outdoing his predecessor and avoiding similar disgrace in the House...although he didn't consider the task too great, considering the incompetency of his predecessor.

House Indigo was not the only noble house to make a push into Guardanetaria. The young and expansive House Hartain, started with the successful conquest of Eqand from the vile and barbaric Federation of Planet-States by the great Admiral Quiram Hartain. Emperor Sadaru II created the house for his valor in the war, granting the new House Hartain title to the planet Eqand, with which the house grew rapidly. House Hartain was encouraged by the Imperial House to establish a mission on Circuitria, since House Hartain was so friendly with the Empire. Milar Hartain, under the direction of his father, was granted management over the new colony, which he named Milaria in his own honor. The colony was constructed with a church of the Galactic Church of Eshoertu for worship, in the Netar Plains of the basin. Nearby were two great ruins that would surely bring substantial fortune to the House. Milar Hartain created a government in which a selected elite (who owned substantial property in Milaria) were chosen on merit for government positions. So far, the model has shown to be a success, and prospects for House Hartain on Circuitria look very bright.

It seemed as if there were no other entities who could take interest in the Guardanetarian Basin. But settlement for the first few periods of 3488 was not quite finished. With the extensive wars that take place on Circuitria, defense and combat industries could earn major profits. The galactic Rouge Corporation was aware of this. Not at all going to pass up potential profits, the Rouge Corporation had its mercenary arm, the Red Raiders, establish a corporate wing on Circuitria. Using the funds being supplied from their parent company, the Red Raiders established a settlement called, aptly, Bloodmoney, on Circuitria. While the company hasn't yet built any form of military, unlike some of the other settlers of the Guardanetarian Basin, they immediately constructed the region's first spaceport, and hired a custom's broker named Lassis Bluker to run it. This has made Bloodmoney the strongest settlement economically in the region, which, of course, leads to a larger army. Matthias Schmidt, so far, has earned the favor of not only the greater Red Raiders but the Rouge Corporation for his management of the settlement.

Thus the history of the Guardanetarian Basin up till the Fourth Period* of the year 3488 A.E. progressed. No faction, as of yet, has a clear advantage, since many show strength in different areas. But what's clear to many is that the blood of war over the silent ruins and their potential profits shall touch Guardanetaria, too. No longer will nature rule divine over the basin. Soon, it seems the gears of war and the flow of credits will disturb the balance, forever, and whatever secrets can be found in the region's ruins will likely come at a high cost in human life.

This is the cost of deviating from the Order of the Empire.

* A Period is equal to a Month.

Those who did not provide a background for your factions or names for your settlements got backgrounds and names assigned to you. If you don't like it, sorry.

Stats have been updated. Do be sure to check them.

Thanks to Toteone for pointing out a flaw in the rules (do thank him, because it could save the lives of weaker players). Imperial Favor has gone up in price to 75 credits per level. Plus you can only go up two levels at a time maximum per turn.

Orders will be due Thursday. Deadlines can always be found on the first post near the top. New players are still welcome.

@Milarqui: Since this was Turn 0, your orders were ignored. However, they can count to Turn 1 if you'd like. If I don't receive any new orders, I will assume that's the case. And they also seem to be in the format I prefer. Thank you.

Great update indeed, orders sent :D

Great update! I like your writing style and quality Circuit. This is gonna be fun. :D

One problem, I can't really see the unit icons at all. Would there be any way, to say, double their size? I just doubled the size of the map to 2048x2048, and saved it as a jpg at ~730 kb, which isn't bad if the size of the file is a concern.

True, the map size could be doubled happily for me.
