Update 3: Greed and Guts
My name is Peterr Machiavicho, Imperial historian for our Great and Holy Emperor Sadaru III, entrusted with recording the history of the planet Circuitria. May the Emperor's greatness, rather than my own, be highlighted with these historical documents.
Within the first standard week of the Seventh Period of 3488 A.E., the Rouge Corporation took a beating in the Securities Market of the financial planet, Humtomcasup, with Rouge stock dropping nearly 10%. The executives, of course, scrambled to find what was to cause for the sudden drop in confidence, and, more importantly, who was to blame. Financial experts gave a laundry list of causes for the lack of confidence in the Rouge Corporation...amongst those being the decrease in profit gained from the
Red Raiders in general. Needless to say, the Red Raiders were penalized, and the Red Raiders management, also looking to cover their own tails, blamed Matthias Schmidt's "lack of judgement" on Circuitria. It's ironic that immediately after Matthias Schmidt was about to announce the completion of the founding of a new settlement, named Crimson, that Sammosa Pietrova contacted Schmidt and told him that there would be a [25 credit]* cut from Circuitrian Red Raider revenue to help pay for the penalties imposed by the Rouge Corporation. Schmidt, of course, was very upset with the loss of the credits (which were already allocated for the construction of a road between Crimson and Bloodlust), but Pietrova merely said, "Next time, go where the money is. If you don't, you could find yourself replaced."
(-25 credits for Red Raiders)
There was no doubting what she meant: Schmidt's "secure income" doctrine was being blamed for the stock dive. Schmidt begrudgingly buckled, sending units in the direction of ruins in an effort to claim them. But now Schmidt was well aware of how badly Suahidus** could damage his operations on Circuitria...and his own career. What he was doing wasn't enough. Thus, Schmidt became more determined, one of the factors that lead to the Hartainian-Red Raider War.
House Hartain and the Red Raiders negotiated via satellite, and eventually signed the Garden Tower Treaty, which stipulated that House Hartain's troops could not travel east of the Garden Tower ruins, and that hostilities between the two factions would end. The treaty was completely ignored by both parties. Hartainian militia crossed the line, continuing to circumvent the Garden Tower in an effort to secure it for House Hartain. But Matthias Schmidt had his eyes on the ruins, too. The AAV unit, after having successfully routed a Hartainian militia the period prior (thus setting off the animosity), was ordered to also circumvent the ruins and secure them for the Red Raiders, crushing all who stood in its way. Milar Hartain seemed to have anticipated this, sending a garrison south to protect Hartainian control of the area. The AAVs and the Garrison met, and conflict ensued. The result was a massacre. The battle was long and hard fought by both sides, the well-armed Hartainian garrison unable to subdue the Red Raider tanks. The units blead each other dry, the Hartainian garrison completely massacred, and the Red Raider AAV unit mostly destroyed and very disorganized. It appears that some Red Raider soldiers survived, but their whereabouts are unknown. When news reached the Capitol and Milar Hartain, he called Matthias Schmidt, told him the Garden Tower Treaty was off, and that a state of war exists between the Red Raiders and House Hartain...the first all-out war to be declared in the Guardanetarian Basin. Schmidt replied, "I was just about to tell you the same," and with that, the Hartainian-Red Raider War began.
Casualties for the Massacre of the Hartainian Plains:
House Hartain: 1 Garrison
Red Raiders: 1 Armored Assault Vehicle
The Hartainian-Red Raider War was the lead story of the period, but another significant event occured...which is likely to make matters on the Netar Plains more complicated, not less. The military and colonization corporation
ColarKell decided that a colony on Circuitria would benefit company revenues. However, they weren't willing to invest their best legions into the risky project. So the company sent Legion MMCMXI (2911), alias
"The Steel Eye", under the leadership of Legatus Bonne Rivison. When the colonization ships touched ground, and people heard who was heading the expedition, many called for an immediate declaration of war. After all, who could forget Legatus Rivison's connection with the destruction of the capitol of 03239 Dep, and the death of every one of its 200,000 citizens? She had a very shady past which rose many eyebrows, but only futile protests to Imperial authorities were issued.
House Indigo, at the time of the arrival of The Steel Eye, had been experiencing massive expansion, which was quickly turning the House into the predominant power in the region. Two more ruins were seized by House Indigo, and the Leotus Borsch Milfeulle put the (ceremonial) keystone over the arch that was the entrance to the new House Indigo settlement Milfeullia. Dues were being received from the Forkwand Xenopological Institute. No power, not even the Red Raiders, are currently as strong as House Indigo. And with the arrival of The Steel Eye, many perceive the House's power to not have been diminished at all: in fact, it may have increased. There was initial tension between the Leotus and the Legatus over rights to ruins, but a treaty was signed that granted The Steel Eye legitimate claim to the ruin in question in exchange for credit payment, along with establishing a legal border between the factions, solving many conflicts. House Indigo even granted The Steel Eye a militia once The Steel Eye is able to make their payment. House Indigo's extension of friendship to The Steel Eye hasn't gone unnoticed by Legatus Rivison; in fact, the new-found friendship between the two factions may have lent House Indigo an even stronger arm in the Netar Plains, perhaps even stronger than if they had attempted to settle in the south themselves.
House Indigo didn't just swing her weight around in the South. The
Outlaw Commune had recently secured the ancient pyramid ruin on the Sardonican beach. Unlike Sakin Alool, who was dead set on seeing to the eventual destruction of the Commune, Leotus Borsch extended a friendly hand to the Commune. He and Yellow Eye negotiated and settled upon a treaty that granted House Indigo some of the southern portion of the Sardonican Plain. In exchange, the House gave the Commune a loan for road construction, connecting future Indigoan settlements with Cosmic Forgiveness, allowing for future trade routes between the factions. The negotiations brought the two factions closer together, which strengthened House Indigo and its leverage against their rival for power to the west, and gave the Outlaw Commune what it needed most in the hostile region: a friend.
But only time will tell if this friendship between the two factions is one to last. An Outlaw Commune was headed west, presumably to claim land. At the same time, a
Jaggonite militia was headed north. The lieutenant of the militia became aware of the movement of the Outlaw Commune unit, and, fearing retribution should he avoid engagement and lose the land to the Outlaw Commune, ceased movement and ordered his unit to hold ground. The Commune arrived and encountered the Jaggonite militia. Fighting, of course, ensued. The militia put up a strong fight, but in the end, the Outlaw Commune's regular unit won out, defeating and destroying the militia. Guardian Alool, rather than flying into a rage, was exstatic upon hearing of the conflict. Finally, he had received the alibi he needed to destroy the Commune. Immediately and without any attempt at negotiation, Sakin Alool declared that "security operations" would begin to secure Jaggonite from its threats...in effect, a declaration of war. Jaggonite is much stronger than the Outlaw Commune, and on its own, likely could conquer Cosmic Forgiveness and end the Commune. But House Indigo's friendliness with the Commune complicates matters. Spectators watch closely to see if House Indigo will step in and guarantee the independence of the Outlaw Commune. And should that happen, the two predominant powers in the Guardanetarian Basin could come toe-to-toe, and a small war could explode in size.
Casualties for the Skirmish of the Sardonican Plain:
Jaggonite: 1 Militia
Of course, Jaggonite didn't just occupy themselves with declaring war on the Outlaw Commune. Jaggonite forces secured two more ruins for their Guardian. However, the likelihood of those ruins turning a profit has quickly diminished. Sakin Alool found the down payment received from the Kurkin Dannis Institute of Historical Research quite handy, and hungered for more such down payments. So upon receiving the first rent payment from the Institute, Alool evicted the Institute from the site, claiming that he had been "personally offended" by Dr. Kutchkin, the leader of the archaeological team occupying Sakin's Divine Ruin. He claimed that he had the legal right to do so, since the contract stipulated that he could renegotiate the terms...without a time frame on when he could do so. Immediately, he placed the ruin back on the market, under the same terms as he had with the Kurkin Dannis Institute. However, the eviction of the archaeological team had severely tarnished Jaggonite's reputation amongst potential customers. Dr. Kutchkin personally raised a stink about Sakin Alool's character. Many buyers turned up their noses to the deal, deaming it too risky for their budgets. Only wealthy firms could be considered able to accept the risk of accepting even low terms...and no wealthy firms were interested. Sakin Alool's gambit at a quick profit had turned very sour, and in the coming war with the Outlaw Commune and potentially House Indigo, Jaggonite's at a great disadvantage economically, having a reputation of being cheets with ruin contracts...and thus loosing potential customers.
(-1 Imperial Favor for Jaggonite)
Meanwhile, activity with the
Sciuridae Collective of Circuitria picked up. SET-x001 was renamed to Mike Three Sierra Alfa. A-001 sent his militia to the east, and the SCC was able to claim their first ruin, and another one may come under SCC control in the Eigth Period. Notable, though, was the tension building between the SCC and Jaggonite. A-001 sent a treaty to Jaggonite that attempted to establish territorial rights for the two factions, and determine who could claim what ruins. The response from Jagadoon was cold and harsh. While Jaggonite accepted most borders established, they demanded the rights to the sea ruin in what was being termed the Sciuridae Bay, and also threatened that any SCC units that crossed the borders would have to face Jaggonite wrath. A-001 had not been expecting such a harsh reply from Jaggonite. It neither accepted nor rejected Jaggonite's demands.
In summary, the Seventh Period of 3488 A.E. in the Guardanetarian Basin saw acceleration of hostilities between the various factions. The Red Raiders and House Hartain are locked in their own little war in isolation, as House Indigo builds up a power block, and Jaggonite begins to marginalize itself amongst its neighbors, and even the research teams who could boost the state's coffers. The early power dynamic having been set, time will tell who will be left standing at the end of the year 3488.

@DarthNader: The stats for the SCC were correct. Also, to design a unique unit requires you spend credits. I suggest that you also communicate with me via PM to make sure you get the unit you want. Right now, the concept isn't doable.
Orders are due Thursday, January 20th, at 6:00 PM MST. Thursday will likely become the pattern, with the way school's going.
