I am starting this thread so as to have one place to discuss some packs of buildings ripped from other games and some stuff I've retextured I am going to release.

Pack 1: Wells

Not much to say, really. Here are several wells, one is a pretty old model by woodelf that has seen quite a lot of use, reskinned by me, the other three were all ripped by me from Anno 1404.

These four form a nice era progression, and are used as art for different eras in Realism Invictus mod. The other three wells (except for the first one) use a single texture for all three nifs.

Pack 2: Middle Eastern buildings

This pack contains several structures ripped by me from Anno 1404. Some of them are used in Realism Invictus, but most I just ripped and then found no use for. Most have reasonable polycounts (the two fortresses from the pack are a bit high - they are better used as wonders only) and reasonably-sized textures (mosque is 1024x512, but you can of course downsize it as you like). The only building that suffered some damage in conversion process is the caravanserai - you can see the poles where cloth tents are missing, but otherwise it is a functional building.

In our mod, the well is a very definite building on its own; I don't know how it can be used otherwise too, but I guess several mods could use this building too. And yes, there will be more stuff coming later on. I have lots of buildings I retextured for TR or converted from various games, and this pack collection will grow.

Excellent, Walter. Now I have by far enough art to replace the acueduct for my magyar artstyle. Please, do some (medieval and renaissance) banks and theatres and colosseums next, okay ;)? Those are very greek looking and thus stick out very much for most civs.

BTW: Are you still working on your eastern european modern cityset? What's the progress?

Nope, didn't work on this one. I've been doing nothing as far as Civ 4 goes for quite a while now; the stuff I'm posting now is what I finished long ago.

Sad to hear that... Don't know how active hrochland is at the moment. I see some posts from him from time to time, but they are not that frequented... How else could I ask for creating such a cityset?

You mention you "ripped" these from Anno 1404. I just got the game and was wondering just how you go about ripping buildings like this. Could you point me to some information on this or give me some pointers?

Well, in this particular case the files are in gr2 format, a closed format unlike nif. There aren't really many tools out there for decoding it, and those that are there are quite unreliable. There are no direct converters from gr2 to nif as well - you're best off using a gr2 to obj converter utility that's out there (made for EVE Online IIRC, but works with some other gr2 files). And there's no way of doing that to animated models, so if you're aiming for the ships, there's really no way.

Thanks for the info. Its the buildings I am interested in really, so don't need any animations. I'd just like some fresh building art and some diversity for a mod I am working on.

Thanks again for the help.

No problem, glad if that was helpful. I've converted quite a lot from Anno series myself; never posted some of the stuff.

ORLY? Well, is there a mod that uses them or if you get the chance package them up and post them for down load. The more the merrier :)

Not right now, since I'm posting this away from home. I'll return home in about a week, and then will be a good time to remind me. ;)

Some of them made it to Warlords version of our mod (see sig), and many more (but still not all) will be available in shortly coming BtS version, which may arrive even before I reach home.

That sounds great! Yeah, I already downloaded TR for Warlords and got Warlords off steam the other day... rock on!
