Burberryan's Literate Civilopedia v1.0
Otherwise known as the Literopedia (oh, why not ?
).
Why "Literate", you may ask ? Quite simply - because it's meant for players who actually read the Civilopedia contents.
Basically, I found the size of text boxes in the original Civilopedia too small to provide adequate readability of the interesting materials contained inside, often forcing the player to read lines comprised of a total of three or four words (sigh) while going through incessant vertical scrolling just to be able to read a few small paragraphs of text (re-sigh).
This mod addresses that limitation by enlarging text boxes where possible, so that more text can be visible on the screen at any given time. Now the Civilopedia actually looks like something that's meant to be read and allows the player to do just that properly. Additionally, I took the chance to correct a few minor visual nuisances in the original.
Because of limitations in the Civilopedia UI structure itself (such as pixel resolution), and also because I am not really a modder nor a programmer and I can only go so far by editing the game's python files, some level of compromise had to be employed in order to reach my intended goals - namely, the main item navigation column had to be reduced to half the size. From my own perspective as a player, this is a more than acceptable sacrifice when considered against what was gained from it, and on retrospective I can't see myself playing the game without this mod anymore. But hey - that's me.
This is a simple modification made for my own personal usage with the game. I've uploaded it simply because a few people asked me to. This was made and tested with BtS v3.19 and it's supplied "as is" - it'll likely work with other Civ4 versions and other mods (as long as they don't modify the Civilopedia UI files), but no guarantees are afforded in that regard. For what's worth, the mod won't overwrite anything on your game, so you can always try it out.
Congratulations if you read all of the above - it proves that you're a good candidate to enjoy this mod.
