Okay... the first map ended up being somewhat of a stinker according to people who tried them. I played about 100 turns as well, and it was... different. I am not experienced with archipelago maps, and it clearly showed.

Well, okay... so why don't we do a Take Two? ^_^

This map has been provided to me, courtesy of my good friend who used to play a lot of Civ 4 in his day. He's been kind enough to send me a WorldBuilder save file, and has ensured me that the map is decent. If this map also becomes a stinker, he will owe me a few beers for his dismal effort. ^_^

Game Settings:
Big & Small
Standard Size
Temperate Climate
Medium Sea Level
Ancient Era
Normal Speed
Snaky Continents
Islands
Islands Mixed In
No Random Events
No Tribal Villages
Choose Religion Off (per request)

And once again, let's remind ourselves whom we are playing as:

And here is the NEW, hopefully much more interesting, starting position:

This map, as I've been told, should have more resources to grab, and a bit more variation in land, as well as landmasses pretty close together for early naval exploration.

As for the immediate surroundings? 3 food resources and a marble... I like this map already! ^_^

Since I want to keep this game strictly at Immortal, I decided to start a game with the WorldBuilder save file and post the 4000 BC Initial save, instead of uploading the scenario save.

Okay, hopefully we will all have some fun this time. ^_^

I guess I'll try to play super aggressive this time (like irl vikings) for fun and not looking for victory (expect maybe early conquest if it goes well).

am i dumb with thinking about settling 1N?
mostly thinking about landlocked start instead of WB start.

btw gwaja could you please set somewhere autoresize on? for me the photobucket resizes the screens automatically. Something like 1024 width would be fine ;-)

SIP ... start Work boat, working marble as soon as you culturepop, followed by a worker while working fish, while researching Argiculture->Mining->Bronze Working

Bye bye ****, bye bye barbarians! Who wants to be next? 375 AD

EDIT: This is REALLY funny map, I recommend to try it! Though I think we should have added one extra civilization here.

bleh ... normal speed ... used to epic ... died to Barb Rush at approx 1ad

Marathon or epic would be nice here for early conquest yes.

Here is what i did to turn 79 :)

Spoiler :
Secured the Jumbo, the Rice spot looked fine too.

Uppsala will be a production powerhouse, the silver city is great too and a much needed boost to hapiness.

I went for TGL again, but this time with getting a settler + axe out first ;)
It is pretty good on this map, allows to expand quick while making decent beakers.

Love the fast boats with Ragnar, there is an axe in the galley to hang around the gems/fish spot which is my next target for a city.

Marble is probally one of my favourite, resources in the game, so much tech potential, sigining in again. Perhaps move the scout 1NE and sip if there is nothing new?

1400 AD, I had some fun with ****.

Spoiler :

I razed 4-5 indian cities and stole their settler. Then I captured Delhi.

I'm backwards in tech, but I could catch up:

Not sure how long I will continue since berserks won't be useful soon. Too late for conquest, but space victory is possible.

Whaaat, this thing happened again! (500 AD spoiler)

So is the map working out for everybody? ^_^

@vranasm on image size:

If I resize it through PhotoBucket, the images don't come out as nice. If I want to put up decent 1024x768 images, I have to play the game with that resolution which sucks, or I will have to personally resize them through programs like Paint.

I suppose it is easier for scrolling and viewing, but I guess I was lazy... either that or it's been difficult trying to do work stuff and civ 4 stuff at the same time, which is not a good behavior. ^_^

well... I let the PB do the dirty job and no one complains :-D they have probably very sharp eyes... and for me the reduction is from 1920--> (well i really don't know, but suppose 1024)

My laptop's top resolution is only up to 1366 x 768 so the images won't come out as sharp. Since I got rid of my desktop and bought a MacBook for work, I have to resort to this somewhat modest laptop for my gaming needs, which isn't as great as it used to be. As long as I can run this game, Sims 3, GalCiv 2, and my freebie online RPG, I am happy. ^_^

But I will try to resize them to like 1024 x 565 or something like that. It will be smaller but at least it won't take as long to load and it won't require any scrolling.

Gwaja i think it is a nice map for some relaxed playing, i prefer that at the moment so it fits me ;)

the map is decent.
I didn't mind the old map...but without iron you really can't Berserker rush. That was really my only problem with that map. Junk start WITH iron..no problem..let the fun begin. IMHO, a game with Ragnar (on archipelago) needs iron (preferably in the BFC). I really wanted to play around with Berserkers. BTW, now that I finally finished "Lucky", I am gonna see what I can do on Ragnar #2. :)

I've yet to play more than maybe 50 turns as I am kinda tied up with a project I am working on, but I am very happy to hear that the map is working out! ^_^

I see that you also posted a save as well... I will have to look at that soon!

With marble in the BFC, Oracling Metal Casting is a possibility, and then popping a Great Engineer from the forge to almost fully bulb Machinery makes Berserker rush very doable, I suppose. ^_^ Then it is just the matter of getting to Civil Service ASAP. Since you need Mathematics for Civil Service, probably getting Construction for at least Catapults make some sense too. Oh heck, why not even go all out to Engineering with Machinery in hand? LOL! I don't know...

It would be kinda more fun if the triremes can bombard city defenses though... then it would be totally awesome just using your early naval power to take down city defenses and then use amphibious ability to attack directly from the safety of the ships. Of course, it wouldn't really make sense considering what kind of ships triremes were, but still.... I can only dream.

As for the "Lucky" game, I've been playing that actually... just didn't have the time to post updates and such, since AZ did a video on it, and I spoiled myself by watching them because I really wanted to see how a high level Deity player's mind deferred from mine when playing this game. So I guess that thread kinda served its purpose, though I do want this particular thread and the future LPI games to be just like the Cathy game thread, only that it isn't me that is doing all the updates with pictures and saves.

Ok, I've been playing around with Camstudio a bit and I managed to get a little bit of recording going without ending up in the Gigabytes. I'm uploading a part of 10 minutes which takes 90 minutes. Makes me want to vomit, but I might as well upload that thing and see whether you like it. If that is the case I will find some way to upload stuff more efficiently and more quickly.

I post the link here once the upload is done.

Berserker Rush!
Spoiler :

No! :p

Not a single fight.

GLH+MC from Oracle. Then slowly settled around. Got 14 excellent cities overall. Permanent tech lead with automated workers and governors.
Very nice and relaxing map indeed.

Don't remember when did I get space last time, but this map was asking for peaceful win.

@CaF,

Hey I am interested in watching. TMIT, AZ, and vranasm have done excellent jobs with their videos and I am sure, with some practice and tweaking, you can probably manage the uploading part better for sure. As soon as you put it up, I will be watching it.

@Noogai,

The first map for Ragnar lacked BOTH copper AND iron in the immediate vicinity. It required quite a bit of effort to get them, and the map was very hammer poor as well. That's probably what he meant though.

@GKey,

I opened your spoiler by accident and....

Spoiler :
How can you do that?? We are Vikings!! ^_^ I am very glad though that this new map is much likable than the 1st map. ^_^
