I guess you've tried to verify the file integrity via Steam? If you didn't, or did it less than 10 times (random number, but still serious), then do it again. And do it again directly afterwards, to see if the file got fixed. If not, do it until to files have to get replaced.
Being new to Steam, I did not know about that. Just to be sure I'm doing the right thing: it's right click on Civ5 on steam library, then go to properties, local files and click on verify integrity of game cache.
So I did it many time, finding many files that were apparently missing (no idea why) and then once it tell me that "All file successfully validated" 10 times in a row, I try Civ5 again and... the same crash happen![]()
hhmm...do you have Windows Vista or 7? If yes, then you might need to execute Steam with administrator rights, because else it might not be able to replace the corrupted files.
This can also be caused by a (somehow) flawed mod, btw.
When the activation checkmarks fail to recognize the previously saved files requirements, the engine still attempts to load anything.
In fact, this routine is a major hurdle in my current development of LeoPaRd since i must verify complex combinations of valid (and continually self-updating, btw) Mods *BEFORE* registering DB slots & multiple game sessions.
MD5s aren't enough, technically speaking. I thought Whys would help-out, but haven't heard from him since asking.
No devs would contact me either.
What about if you're not using steam?
