Game crashing fairly frequently in TBC 7.4

Whoever's helping test, please try the following.

Do the quick game/etc settings I describe with the previous attachment. However, disable TBC with an _ in front of the folder name. See if the crash happens with only CiVUP enabled... we can start narrowing it down.

Did, and it's not fixed. The game just froze when I ordered my scout to move, through a city-state's borders, next to another civ's borders. I think it has something to do with either revealing fog or civs' borders because those have been the common factors in this type of crash for me at least.

For me it was hitting "end turn", and it *instantly* crashed to my desktop. There wasn't a momentary delay and the computer's turn hourglass wasn't visible. This has probably been about half my crashes. The other half were split between a few thing, but all after hitting a button in the "new tech", "wonder complete", and "stop talking to this CS" dialog boxes.

I haven't had any of the latter crashes you mention. I get two types:
  • Crash to desktop between turns (not instant like you, some of the other civs' moves show)
  • Freeze moving a unit near/inside other civ's borders revealing fog
 
Okay, the problem is somewhere in CiVUP. The most likely cause is flag promotions. Please try playing without Flag Promotions and report back if that solves the issue. This will help narrow down where the problem is. Thanks!

To play without Flag Promotions, add an "_" underscore in front of the folder name and it's disabled:

D:\Thalassicus\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Unofficial Patch and Thals Balance (v 76)\CiVUP - Civ V Unofficial Patch\_Flag Promotions

Playing with the version 7.7 beta, with flag promotions disabled, and i dont seem to be able to promote my spearman, and therefore cannot end my turn
no other mods enabled, 52 turns in. Ill see if it happens again when i clear cache

EDIT: yup, occurring again. i have also had a couple of ctds while the map is loading, and i recall this happening to me once in a previous version (7.4/7.28?) havent seen any recent posts concerning this, so im not sure if its relevent
Interestingly i tried it with flag promotions enabled and i could promote my units. have been playing for ~300 turns without crash so far
 
I played almost a full game on 7.3 before the new patch broke it :(
No crashes, no real non-vanilla bugs to report, I was also played CSD and a custom version of Atilla's modpack. I haven't tried 7.4 yet, but I think I'll stay away from it now :(

It turns out the bug wasn't in the mod at all.

When I changed the art for strategic resources to show the "small" art for size 1-2 deposits and "large" for size 3+ I figured... hey, I changed the art for resources... so I should check the box that says "use this" when art for resources is changed... right?

I enabled that in the version when the crashes started, disabled it and the crashes stopped. Voila!

I figured it out because of the nature of the bug: completely new category of problem and didn't fit the pattern of previous issues. Thinking outside the box, what had I changed recently that isn't in the mod at all?! I enabled some of Firaxis' code! :lol:
 
Awesome. having started the thread I've actually been too busy enjoying the mod to post back here again. Anyhow I managed to complete 2 standard length games without too many crashes, just made sure it autosaved each turn. However it'll be even better without the random crashes.

Are you posting the fixed version up in the mod browser?

I'm unable to upload new mods to the mod browser for now. Firaxis figured out what the problem was, fixed it, and within a week or two the fix will probably be available so I can upload again. Until then, please download the mod from http://civmodding.wordpress.com
 
The crashes have reduced greatly, now I'm able to get into Renaissance. But however I can't finish my games because there will be and has been so far a crash in almost each of my games.
I can play unmodded civ V and finish the game without crashes at all.
 
You've checked the common problems list? I haven't heard of any other crashes since this problem was fixed... yours is probably a new bug. What are you typically doing when it happens?
 
Well actually I haven't deleted cache and moduserdata for a while now. I'll try deleting them and play.


Edit: Crashed after trying to move a Great Merchant. I don't think the reason for the crash was the GM itself: many of the crashes I've experienced happened after moving any kind of unit, let it be military or civilian.
 
That sounds like the same problem that happened when "reload landmark system" was enabled. Could you check this file:

Unofficial Patch and Thals Balance (v 86).modinfo

and see if this is 0 or 1:

ReloadLandmarkSystem

Also make sure no older versions of the mod are installed in the "mods" folder, and cache/moduserdata have been deleted since v7.X.

I had one crash in several games of 8.x but it was different than the 7.x crashes, and since it was after an extended play session I believe that it just ran out of memory/memory got too fragmented in the game.
