I know CFC is bigger than TWC and the org, but I doubt that has anything to do with this. On neither site are sigs restricted in such a way. The minimum letter count is also lower (1 and 3 respectively). It seems it would make more sense if the min. char limit on here was the size of the smallest smiley...

Anyway, why are sigs restricted and the min. letter count so (relatively) high on CFC?

1. The content of your post should be what matters, not what your signature says. Thus it is restricted so not to break up the discussion.

2. Cuts down on spam posts.. it used to be ten character letters, but was reduced partly for Forum Games.

I'm surprised you mentioned the lack of spoilers and quotes here, but not the lack of pictures (also allowed on both the .org and TWC)

I'm surprised too, actually. I wasn't thinking of pics at the time.

How is a bot going to advertise whatever it's advertising in 5 characters or less?

I have an idea.

a hypothetical bot said:

Other than that... meh.

Also, anyone else realize how stupidly easy it is to get around the NO CAPS LOCK restriction? I miss my acronyms.

That's not an advertisement, and it's 5 chars and thus gets past the limit anyway.

The no capslock thing annoys the crap out of me sometimes but I bet not having it would annoy even more crap out of me.

I love the sig rules here. I am very enthusiastic about sacrificing my ability to jam a ton of crap into my sig so that others cannot jam a bunch of crap into their sigs. I would like it if they were more restrictive, such that pointless rows of stupid smileys were not allowed.

It's stupidly easy to get around 5 characters as well.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't have it though.

I don't see the point, though. It just gets annoying when I want to simply say "No" or "OH CRAP" (this is far more prevalent in usergroups than the rest of the forum).

I am proof that it deters spam. Sometimes, especially in the past, I would be about to make a post, but get stopped by the insufficient characters thing. Rather than add characters just to make it post, I would reconsider and drop the post completely. It does prevent some spammy posts.

I just add random smilies if this is the case.
