Challenge-VI-04

@TMIT

I mentioned speed because in conquest game the relative movement speed is pretty important.

They finished the game in ~155 turns (if I remember right) right now not sure with the end unit type, but I bet they finished max with Maces. On normal speed you could meet at least muskets or grens (I think 150 turns on normal is something like 1400 AD? compared to 590 AD on epic)

Pretty important for their strategy was getting circumnavigation.
I think the quicker the setting the better to wait for renaissance units or count with needing more advanced troops then cats+something.

Granted I wouldn't abandon classical era warfare here, but the tech progress shouldn't come out of mind imo.
But I have yet to try the settings at least to know better.

^ Archipelago AI techs poorly however, and I don't know about t150, but t115 is 1 AD on normal speed and t250 is 1700's...so I think you're putting it later than it really is.

Also, last guy can be killed even if you need to throw #'s. Global tech pace won't meet standard timings if you're killing people.

That said, renaissance might still be better, but that doesn't rule out the astro bulb by any means; hell it probably strengthens it as a tech path choice.

Don't forget, frigates can bombard :p. I think that takes too long however. I think someone will swing it will galleons or galleys.

^^ rechecked the record and as it seems I was waaaay off. PD finished in 195 turns on epic speed.

assuming similar distances on the map, meaning similar number of turns for moving the troops...

is it actually indicator of needing better troops or worse? I think we need better troops.

And yes they ended with maces.

You need better/more troops on faster speeds. Maces @ astro will be difficult, but so will throwing things around on galleys. That's why this is a "challenger" series though :p.

I was carried a bit in the attempt I am making now.

Got GLH reasonably soon (with tiny islands archipelago and even got circumnavigation in BC's) and then just spammed and spammed and spammed cities... meaning at 1 AD 13 cities, at 800 AD around 22 self settled cities.

No way competitive since I didn't take anyone out yet (btw interesting that my starting island didn't have copper nor iron), but surely fun as hell to settle that many cities :-D.

the best AI has something like 8 cities? lol :-)

Maybe just an demonstration how strong GLH can be ;-).

(and not sure which military tech to take the AI's on... probably something renaissance, I think I am now deeply in lib race)

1585 AD eh? That's a pretty impressive time to beat. On a short first attempt with low sea level I found myself semi isolated and aborted the game. I would love to see wether AAA played high or low sea level.

Round 2, Fight!

With that timing really good players could pull this with rifles (see rusten's diety game where he has it by the 700's AD on quick). Hell, I'm not even that good micro-wise and I was throwing cavalry around in the 1400's in game 2. In this you can probably do it faster with GLH on a favorable map.

Unfortunately there is no easy route to amphibious promotions making this more complicated than it would be otherwise.

Using earlier units is less efficient but possibly faster.

I'm still playing on this one. And yes I'll probably go with cavs or something. Its 1000 AD and I killed only one civ. The only time I have a chance beating is Thlypsis 1904. But I'm perfactly fine with that. Here and bunch of veterans playing and half a year ago I couldn't even beat prince. My challenge is to win ever game in this challenge.

Btw you always say challenger in your Lets plays. That's a space shuttle

Haha that's just the forum though. The score chart says Hall of Fame Challenge Series in big letters :D

Hey, I'm just copying what I see when I read the game formats here, don't shoot the messenger, he might have night immunity :p.

Ugh. No vassal conquest. High sea levels ahoy!

Emp isn't that fast so if you whore out GLH/Colossus and/or manage fast rifles + galleons you should be able to spam raze and win right there. Doing it sooner would be hard I think because you'd struggle to get anything done amphibiously...maybe aggressive muskets + frigate bombard + combat II/amphibious (5 xp)?

This post made me smile :)

It has been a while since I had to capture EVERY city in a civ game. Will give it a go soon.

Awesome game bcool! I will wait and see if Kaitzilla makes my game look even more pathetic.

Watching the victory odds during this game absolutely infuriated me. It probably did not make a big difference except for the first few unlucky losses. I lost a few >99%, lost a lot of 80-90% battles (more that 10 to 20 percent of the time). I rarely won any 30-60% battles.:gripe:

Holy mama! bcool's revenge for sure. The competition is raging furiously...and I am still stuck with the challenge number three...

*slaping myself* I'm gonna lose, wake up!
