Hello,

I remember reading a few months back that quick combat was causing problems with the way all mods worked. I'm guessing this is the reason Thal disabled the option for quick combat in the latest mod.

Is there any way for me to enable quick combat? I don't care about those errors but get frustrated with the combat animations.

Thanks

There's a file in the mod folder called options. Open it and change the value there from 0 to 1, save and restart the game. That should enable quick combat without breaking the mod.

Thank you that was a quick and easy fix.

I originally had this enabled by default, but people requested it be disabled by default. Either way some will have to change it.

The big advantage of VEM's quick combat is the ability to enable/disable it for an active game (by switching the option and reloading a save). You can show animations early in the game, then disable them later when army sizes increase. Vanilla doesn't offer this flexibility since its quick combat is a fixed pregame setting. I would like quick combat as an in-game option like Civ 4 (instead of an options file or pregame), but that would require changes to the game core only Firaxis has access to.

VEM's quick combat also avoids the major bug with vanilla's version - mods cannot detect combat when the vanilla option is enabled. These aspects of the mod require the VEM approach to quick combat:

  • Blitz promotion.
  • German and Aztec traits.
  • Professional Army policy.

I enabled quick combat using the ini file change, but still many units do not show combat animations. Specifically submarines, Indian Elephants, and others. How do I disable quick combat for everything? I'm using the latest build. Thanks

Any unit belonging to a newly made unit class will still not have animations - at least, that is my understanding.

We cannot associate unit animations with unit classes with our current modding tools. The units you mention belong to the Mounted Archer and Submarine unit classes I created to fix some vanilla bugs. Vanilla subs can get the "bombardment" promotion, for example, despite the fact they cannot attack land units.
