Nothing like a little self promotion, so I will be playing my map, When Sea Levels Attack, as America. Let's see how this goes.

All chapters will be within spoilers in this one so people reading after posts can read quickly.
EDIT: only 35 images per post? Okay, i will reserve a lot of posts. :(

SPECIAL RULES:
I will try to help the environment as much as possible. This is to reflect people being extra careful after this traumatic event.

All right. Here goes nothing.

Prologue: After the End
Spoiler :

Dawn broke on the small settlement. Amid the ruins of a once-huge city, a small band of survivors of the catastrophe lived in poverty.

zed03.jpg

Once people of the greatest civilization in the world, now destroyed by their own indifference to environmental damage.

But today was different. Today a great leader had risen to power, the man who swore to restore the ancient glory. His name was Roosevelt, after a great leader of the Before Times told in the ancient scrolls.

That very day, he ordered the construction of a new city. From the ruins of the old would come the new. A new order. A new civilization.

New America.

That year the city was started. New Washington , they called it, as the area they had inhabited for so long was once the site of a great city called Washington. Or so the Holy Scrolls said.

Work was begun on training laborers to fix the ruined farms and mines outside the city, while wise men worked on how to keep the new mines from collapsing.

Exploration was key, said the new ruler, and so it was decided to explore the island on which they resided. It was not long until they discovered another tribe, living in the ruins of a city once called New York, who taught them the secrets of repairing the mines. Work began immediately on how to repair the old roads.

jibPg.jpg

Further exploration revealed the island too small to support a growing civilization. They would need boats. Lots of them.

prPUz.jpg

And so it began. The legend of New America, a land that would rival the ancient one that shared its name.

Book 1: Hope and Resolve
Spoiler :

Chapter 1: Boats. Lots of them.
Spoiler :

Years passed before the boat building technology became available. Roosevelt was not amused by the wait, but his advisers told him that it was because of the tropical wood. If they had been further north where there were temperate forests, boats could have been developed much faster. Roosevelt decided to be content with the fact that it was finished now, and that boats would be begun as soon as possible.

lrrkv.jpg

The first warboat came sooner than anyone expected, thanks to the newly-repaired mines pumping out metal for oars and dragon heads (which, as any Civ player knows, is absolutely necessary. Without it, the ship will not float). As it floated triumphantly out of New Washington, it represented the seafaring prowess of the nation that would be absolutely vital to its survival.

KS2P9.jpg

The ship was ordered to make for highlands in the west described by the Holy Scrolls. After months of journey, they did find another landmass, but oddest was the people on it! The ship's captain, knowing that he was south and west of Washington, decided that these must be the Fabled Mexicans, who, according to the ancient Scrolls, were not to be allowed into America's borders. (SPECIAL RULE: Because of the people's devotion to the Holy and Ancient Scrolls, no Mexicans are to be allowed into New America, meaning no open borders with the Aztecs. This is to reflect the misguided view that the New Americans have of their ancient culture because of the small amount of American literature that survives (The Holy Scrolls). I will not say what these Scrolls are now, but now you know they are anti-immigration.)

O3USh.jpg

My, my, that is a terrible shot of Monty.

After hearing of these marvelous discoveries, the government in New Washington decided that exploration was of the highest priority. In a land ravaged by the Great Flood, the first to find and settle good lands would be the best off...

Chapter 2: Expansion
Spoiler :

Later that year, workers discovered a strange metal that was excellent for metalworking. The Scrolls made no mention of it, but the Oxford Book Of Language did, and so it was called bronze.

J2vhZ.jpg

It was important to control it as soon as possible, so it could be used to good extent. Many believed it could be used as weaponry, to defend New America from outside invaders such as the Mexicans and the mysterious hated faraway country mentioned in the Holy Scrolls. It was mentioned only once, but was unreadable due to water damage on the Scrolls themselves. The people of the country had flew giant dragons into a great American monument, destroying it completely. Regardless of the reason, a settling party was readied immediately and sent to settle in the vicinity.

88Yy7.jpg

They settled there as soon as they arrived. Calling the city "New York" after a similarly named ancient city in the vicinity, they set to work mining the bronze.

imXq2.jpg

It seemed, however, that even the bronze was obsolete already. On an island to the west, explorers discovered a stronger metal that The Oxford Book called Iron. It was clear that colonization of new lands was necessary, and so the order was given...

aSLxJ.jpg

"All exploratory seafarers are to return to New Washington at once. It is time to rebuild."

Chapter 3: Colonization and Growth
Spoiler :

It did not take long after the order was given for the first such colony to be founded. The small city was built near the source of Iron, and was named Hudson, after what the Holy Scrolls called Hudson Bay. Unfortunately, the maps of the Holy Scrolls were woefully inaccurate, and so locating the position of the colony was difficult.

FTVdj.jpg

Soon after, iron was also discovered in the hills near New Washington. Metal from these mines boosted the industry of the city tenfold.

xNfg0.jpg

Directly after, the Mexicans "tried to hop the border fence", as the Scrolls would say. They were flatly refused.

2MjQr.jpg

The Mexicans were being particularly annoying. Roosevelt ordered the buildup of military and rapid expansion of the colonies. It was time to go to war.

I can only have 30 images per post? balderdash.

Book 2: Manifest Destiny
Spoiler :

Chapter 4:To War
Spoiler :

War came sooner that anyone expected. It was found that the Mexicans had not only entered the land promised to America by the Holy Scrolls, they had, in fact, created a settlement! The populace was outraged.

uKDE9.jpg

Troops with the new copper and iron weapons were loaded onto war boats.

UYwDj.jpg

American forces came...

LnhnE.jpg

saw...

nP0gQ.jpg

and conquered.

Idf8C.jpg

The city was renamed New Orleans, and the American army stood ready to punish the Mexicans for their crimes.

bQLBb.jpg

However, it seemed that the land of Mexico proper was much more heavily defended that its colonies.

NPFEZ.jpg

The Mexican Navy wiped out the invasion force before it could land.

aMWNc.jpg

Then they invaded yet again, and put down another heretical settlement!

sBZsU.jpg

This could not stand, of course. A new army fresh from New Washington ensured that the colony was short-lived.

vlNJr.jpg

Finally, the Mexican blockade was broken and American troops landed on the island of Mexico. The Mexicans were caught by surprise and had to conduct a hasty retreat.

Z8UN6.jpg

Meanwhile, archaeological digs near New York had uncovered a large metal statue made of bronze. In the name of restoring America, the statue was rebuilt in Washington.

dq7Eo.jpg

On the western island, the settlement of Denver was founded to continue the drive westward.

JBXYK.jpg

American troops penetrated the heartlands of Mexico and occupied their iron mines.

BIVGg.jpg

And two new weapons came into general use. Firstly, the Trireme, built specifically to sink Mexican Galleys...

Kcjsr.jpg

And catapults, to batter down the cities' defenses.

WkG7G.jpg

All was going according to plan. Soon, the immediate danger to America would be eliminated so that they could continue westward in peace. The Scrolls hinted at rich lands to the west known as California and Oregon, and Roosevelt had no intention to be second best...

Chapter 5: And So It Shall Be
Spoiler :

Many were inspired by the nation's successes in war. In fact, directly after seeing the first one to see, the inventor of the Trireme built a large academy to educate the nation's young in sciences that could be turned against the Mexicans.

eL0AS.jpg

That same year, American Triremes reached the Heart of Mexico and imposed a blockade on the heavily defended city...

J3Ch0.jpg

Just as more forces landed in the north to liberate Aztec slaves.

IcZcj.jpg

There were great defeats...

0i2XD.jpg

And great victories.

HoxOk.jpg

Several times the invasion force was almost wiped out completely.

xlHC8.jpg

And sometimes it was.

dmmWf.jpg

But reinforcements always came on time. And the enemy's strength decreased with every battle.

CINfH.jpg

And the Mexicans could not keep up with America's military knowledge.

fekqe.jpg

And so, after years of hard fighting, the foothold on the Island of Mexico was captured.

DhTHq.jpg

But it was in that same year that a great evil was uncovered. Life in America would never be the same...

Book 3: Turbulence
Spoiler :

Chapter 6: Wars and Revolutions
Spoiler :

It was the year of 1080 when the revolutions began. America of the Holy Scrolls, whose military might was unmatched abroad, was doomed to be overthrown from within. The idea of educating the people was an old idea, but was heretical and was not encouraged. In that year, a young monk who read the Holy Scrolls for the first time was shocked at what he saw. They were nothing more than ultraconservative tabloids! He brought this up with his mentor, who asked him what the big problem was. Shaken, he knew what he had to do. He stole hundreds of copies of the Scrolls and traveled around the country, followed by the secret police. The people were just as horrified as we was. The revolution began in New York. Although it was a bloody civil war, it died down soon enough and the priest was made the new leader of the redefined social order.

xH59m.jpg

Meanwhile, the war went well. Sorties from the newly-rechristened Houston devastated the Mexican heartland.

eyMjy.jpg

But by far the most interesting thing to happen in that time period was the discovery of a new civilization. Although the old fanatics who still followed the Scrolls called them Brazillians because of their offer to play "ceremonial ball", most called them by their name for themselves: Inca.

CASCL.jpg

The Incans proved to be good trading partners but also extremely gullible.

LsABy.jpg

All was going well. Soon the island of Mexico would be in American hands, and there would be a ready ally to the south.

Got to love Monty as a Neighbour :D
As for your whole having the whole story in the first post, won't it get confusing with any comments? You should also definitely say something when you add a part as I tend to only check threads with new post and if your story is just edited in I won't see the new parts :(

:agree:

Welcome to the forums! [party]

Look out for standardized greeting messages, they're scary!

I like the story so far! Let's keep it coming!

Thanks for all the encouragement!

Unfortunately, this week is exam week, so I can't update.. However, expect daily updates later!

I've actually been around some two years...
