You're right, both religions are just as bad. The Catholic church is even worse because they tried to cover up their crimes. At least Islam is up front about how they view women.

I believe sexual repression causes perversion. And celibacy of the priests is the biggest reason for the abuse scandals. They need to allow their priests to marry, but that will never happen.

Conservative forms of Islam are said to have strict sexual codes which include banning homosexuality, demanding virginity, and can require modest dress-codes for women.[3]

As for pimping and what not, I wasn't including that in my post. I may have misread the original story, but they weren't charging men to have sex with these women were they? I thought they were just his buddies.

Then you have lived a very sheltered life. It's quite common here in Canada - at least in the West (not sure about Ontario and east) - for the cops to put in a LOT less effort in the cases of abused and raped Native women and girls than in the cases of non-Natives. Just ask the women in Downtown East Side in Vancouver, British Columbia. Or the families of the women who have disappeared over the years along the "Highway of Tears" in British Columbia. There's only one white woman among the victims of that stretch of road, and she was a tree planter from Red Deer.

Sex trafficking goes on all over the world. Sex tourism happens, too. As for grooming... the younger the girls are, the more vulnerable they are mentally, as well as physically. I once stumbled across a child porn website that had photos of Asian children as young as THREE YEARS OLD. I've no idea who took the photos, but the skin tone of the adult male in the photo was not Asian (naturally the photo didn't show his face).

Of course nonreligious people can be bigots. Anybody can be a bigot. My grandfather wasn't religious, yet he was bigoted against Jews. But at least he took a couple of baby steps away from that before he died.

Infants are not immune either, sadly.

I don't know how often that makes the news (child porn or simply rape, the latter probably much more common), but it does happen.

Except that it had nothing to do with race or religion. The media did that. There are plenty of groups of all religions,races, and nationalities that do the same thing.

Of course, if it was a Christian group of white men it wouldn't have gotten any publicity outside of England.

It itself is not a fairy tale, but there some that touch upon the these things.

Perhaps its useful to note that many of these tales reflect our societies more than we'd like to admit.

The Church isn't capable of an organised cover up, it's too incompetent and too decentralized. Islam does not inherently degrade women nor does it encourage abuse of them.

Southern Baptists have even higher rates of molestation and most of them marry.

Normally I'd agree with you. But really what relevance does the holy book have on organized religion? Does the bible tell Catholics they should hate gays? From what I understand, there is no direct command to hate gays. My point is policies the church adapt in modern times have nothing to do with the original holy text. In short, organized religion is all bad.

It doesn't matter if payment is exchanged or not.

I think money does make a difference. These girls aren't getting paid right? So they are basically sex slaves. It wouldn't be quite as bad if they were getting paid.

Either that, or some posters were discussing the fact that the rapes only happened because these girls were in such a sad situation to begin with, which European welfare states are supposedly so good at preventing.
