Losing hammers through Buddhist buildings

I have observed in the city screen that one of the effects reported for all of my Buddhist buildings (temples and stupas, I don't have monasteries) is the loss of 2 hammers. I'm quite puzzled with this. This is my first BTS game. Until now, I have only played Vanilla. Is this some new feature in BTS? Or might it be a bug?

Thanks.

Are you sure it's a loss and not a gain? The Apostolic Palace gives +2 hammers for all religious buildings of the same religion even if someone else owns it.

...in addition to what CultureBomb said, the hammers from the Apostolic Palace religion disappear if you defy a resolution (until the next vote) or the owner of the Palace techs Mass Media.

Here are all the reasons that cause hammers disappearance from AP buildings:

  1. Once Scientific Method is acquired, you lose hammers from AP monasteries. BTW, as a tip, don't start monasteries, hoping to complete it at the same time as Scientific Method. Beakers are compiled before than hammers in buildings, thus obsolescensce makes you lose hammers...downright. I've learnt this the hard way, wishing to produce missionaries without Organized Religion.
  2. Mass Media obsoletes AP bonuses for the player who has the tech.
  3. Defying an AP resolution not only causes huge unhappiness, but also cancel AP hammers until you vote positively for any next resolution. Not necessarily the defied resolution. BTW, new cities converted to AP religion after the defy will not suffer from unhappiness. I don't know about hammers bonus, but I guess the cancel is global.

It really looks like the Buddhist buildings are making me LOSE hammers. In the attached screenshot you can see how one of the effects displayed for the Buddhist Temple is "-2 :hammers:". And that's exactly what you can see happening in the rest of the screen. The hammers from the worked tiles are 15, but the Base Production is 13, which corresponds to the hammers loss reported for the Buddhist Temple.

In case it helps, the global religious civic is Free Religion because it was voted that way (I think that it was an United Nations resolution). I voted "No", but I didn't defy the resolution.

Any ideas?

Are you playing a mod or regular BTS?

Ha Ho Ha! I've heard about some bug that put twice as much hammers, but losing hammers. That's completely ridiculous.

Maybe you should redirect this to the bug section?

I've never seen this and I'm completely at a loss

Did you defy like 500 AP resolutions? Maybe there is a threshold out there no one has ever achieved.

A wild guess...
Did you capture Antium recently ?
And did the Roman leader defy an AP resolution ?

I have already posted this in the bugs section: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=11787053#post11787053

Did you by chance get a weird event @ all?
This is my first BTS game. All the events seem weird to me.

I didn't defy any resolutions in the whole game.

This problem happens in all my cities that have Buddhist buildings, not just Antium, and not just those that I conquered from the Romans.

Oh my goodness what did you do?! :dubious:
I guess I upset the whole pantheon of Buddhist gods in a previous life

I have heard of this bug before but mainly due to defying resolutions (you lose the 2 hammers). At some future point in the game when AP hammers typically disappear (you change religions or the AP gets nullified, etc) then the game goes through and deducts the 2 hammers. Unfortunately, your religious builds are already at +0 hammers and thus get pushed down to -2 hammers.

I think MeInTeam mentioned this at one stage.

But still I'm sure that I didn't defy any resolution, at least not on purpose. Since it's my first BTS game, I'm starting to wonder if at some point I might have pressed the wrong button by mistake and defied a resolution when I only wanted to vote "No". Is there any way (a log or something) to make sure of whether I have defied a resolution or not?

ctl-Tab will bring up your event log. unfortuneately, I don't remember how much it keeps track of.

Hi

wouldnt one way to dbl check be mousing over the unhappy faces to see if any are due to defying an resolution?

Possibly he could do that, Kat, but I don't believe the unhappiness is tied to the loss of hammers. That is, once it wears off does not mean the hammers return, so if the defy was some time ago it may not show up.

Hi

Yeah also it been a while since I actually defied a ap resolution but dont they hit you pretty hard? Like as much a smultiple cities with emancipation when you dont hard? like -3 or even higher? I mean unless you have spare happy out the wazzoo it should be hard to ntoice a bunch of cities all jumping apassed the happy cap at once.

From reading what he posted in bug thread I wonder if it related to what appratnly looks like that at some points *some* ai's had ap going while others had teched passed mass media and obsoleted it. So at first I though maybe its like this--you tech past mass media so game gives all your budist buildings minus-2 to cancel out ap effect. You then capture a city that doesnt have mass media yet but defied ap so was getting -2 for defying. You capture city and build temple (and youw ould have to build new one cuz they one of buildings that ALWAYS dissapear in captured city right?) and game remembers that city gets -2 for not having defied ap and then ALSO for some reason another -2 for having mass media and opsoleting ap?

Only thing is it a) wouldnt expalin why it happening in ALL of his cities like he said is happening. And b) and this is another thing I am not one hndred perecnt sure on but I *think* I recall at least one game where I teched mass media while running ap religion but the civ that founded ap still hadnt tech massmedia yet so I was STILL getting ap bonus so always though that bonus wouldnt get taken away until the OWNER of ap got mass media :/

It still very wierd I cant believe in tons and tons of bts games I never seen this bug before. Oh yeah I HATE questions like this cuz it always reminds me of those questions sometimes lame tech help ppl ask like "is it plugged in" and you want to answer "duh thanks for help since like you guessed-- I am THAT stupid" or something :P But he DID say he recently upgraded to bts and pryor to this was playing vanilla. so to the OP I am NOT trying to say youre dumb cuz this is step that could easily be overlooked as opposed to plugging something in--but is this maybe a bug in old patch that got fixed and maybe hadnt installed latest patch yet?
