Just finished 2 games yesterday and today, both on Big and Small map, classical start, deity level.

1. Luchirup with Beeri Bawl: founded RoK, went straight to arete, expanded half by settler half by conquering barbs. Had only Calabims as neighbour on south, was friendly, until he finished Sheaim and turned on me. Had gaygoyles with fireball (engineering + sorcery) at the time, and I just summoned Basium. I defeated 3 waves of vampire+mage+hunter stack, and pushed back. In late game I used the tower of divination glitch - hurry ToD by gold in a small city, gift it to Basium (same team), then build it again in another city. In the end I had nearly all tech and got a domination victory. I settled many islands and granted them independence as my vassal, providing me valuable mana.

2. Lanun with Hannah: founded OO and AV, had only Ljojasfar as neighbour on the same continent, and Acheron was between us. Early game was building and conquer barb city by Savorous. Switched to AV after I finished tower of complemancy in Innsmouth, summoned Basium (strange though). Doviello on west continent already summoned Infernals, I stocked 5 cultist to prepare the assault, then I popped MALVOLENT DESIGNS from a graveyard just built on my land... that equals to 4 Eidolons from cultist, and Mardero of course. Dis was a coastal city and the only Infernal city and Hyborem was not home, so they gone. Then I killed Doviello as well, and Mardero captured Rosier the fallen.... Then I waged war with everyone for mana, used ToD glitch for Mithril working and Pass through the ether and Strength of the will, then hurried 4 towers on the same turn, got machinary(free GE), and built Tower of Mastery in my 33-pop capital - 3 GE for 1180*3 =3540 hammers, paid for the rest. Can't say it's fun but I enjoyed it.

Well done.

If you enjoyed it, it is pretty much the same as having fun.

Very interesting. I don't win consistently on Deity--can you tell us a little about your starting build and tech orders, and your decision-making process? E.g. when do you stop building units and start building structures, what is your slider typically at, etc.

Did you have isolated starts or how many were on the same landmass?

that ToD glitch sounds like a bug that needs squashing, 3 lategame techs is a nasty exploit.

abusing colonies for mana is also bad for gameplay imo, perhaps colonies shouldn't get a palace?

abusing tech extortion to get all techs a civ has and wiping them after 10 turns is also meh, hopefully the AI behaviour can be changed to prevent that :D

Typically I rush a religion, an academy, stay one city(for religion holy city) and keep 3-4 warriors, then expand. I usually keep small army(unless have enemy), go for aristocracy-agrianxxxism, currency, engineering and guild of hammers, then guilds and smelting, then my production will be the top. Recently I summoned Basium for exploit. You only have to have one stack of doom.

You can also build two ToD in a team game - only useful in hotseat/multiplayer obviously.

What speed youtien?

How do you not get declared on by the AI with only 3-4 warriors playing on Tholal/Deity? I have tried this strat--staying on one city, teching religion-->code of laws-->currency/trade. Typically what happens is that somewhere in the middle of this, Capria shows up with a stack of 20 copper axes and I die.

They are far away. I can try again with different map someday.

Probably huge maps, agressive barbarians and barbarian cities for buffs...
