Sim City (4) Succession Session!

I didn't know that farmer's markets were such a great building. I'm a bit of a noob at SC4, but stuff like this is what made Boatmurdered awesome.

And yes, there is middle-class development! However, most of downtown is still lower-class, though.

I forgot how silly all the buildings looked with massive brick-lined cliffs off the sides. I figure that hospital is mostly treating victims of fence-less properties.

Yes, that is my biggest problem with Sim City 4's graphics- the inability for many buildings to fit well onto uneven surfaces.

Mayor Germanicus12 arrives at his House and promptly gazes out his windows to admire the city he was to rule for the next 5 years. His view was ruined by the previous mayor's wanton placing of dirty industry, which cluttered otherwise beautiful hill, but before he could do anything about it he must deal with more pressing matters.

The previous administration also left the health department in dire straits, hospitals were understaffed, overcrowded and simply unhealthy. Sims were encouraged to stay home if they wanted to heal rather than make the hazardous trip to the local hospital. So his first order was to destroy all the clinics, even MoreEpicThanYou Memorial, and established a grand Medical Center which he graciously called, Fort Consternation Medical Center. The new Center was established next to a plot reserved as the future site of Fort Consternation's first Police Department, which will be explained in the next month's meeting.
fortconsternationmay241.jpg

The Fort Consternation Police Department was established because the Mayor was shocked to discover that there was a murder right next to his house. Despite his misgivings the populace applauded the move and population boomed. The new cash flow which at this point reached 5,000 in surplus a month allowed Mayor Germanicus12 to finally clean up the city.

His first order of business was to establish a Port area and Industrial Center, he scouted for a location and discovered a semi-hidden valley that was perfect, so he extended the avenue and curved around into the valley, set up a toll booth and zoned medium to high industry. With the industry booming in the new location he methodically destroyed the old industrial area, leaving only the power plants and garbage dumps, which he was forced to expand to handle the the trash from the new residents.
fortconsternationaug281.jpg

He also established the first Port of Fort Consternation, which quickly filled to capacity that he was forced to build a new rail line for the freight trains to carry goods out of the city. The tracks tunneled under the mountains and skirted the farms, all to ensure that the city was not harmed in any way.

It was at this point that the citizens of Fort Consternation along with the farmers approached the mayor about establishing a Farmer's Market, Mayor Germanicus12, his mind on other things simply nodded his assent and thus the Farmer's Market was built between the residential downtown and the farms.
fortconsternationsep201.jpg

Then for reasons unknown Fort Consternation began losing money, the large scale destruction and rebuilding had taken its toll and suddenly Fort Consternation was losing 500 simoleons a month. This was when the army arrived and offered to build a Fort in town, Mayor Germanicus12 promptly agreed and thus Fort Consternation makes sense now.
fortconsternationjan120.jpg

A proposal for a missile silo was also proposed but rejected now that Fort Consternation was slowly making money. Soon the city was raking in several thousand a month and the good Police Chief arrived to ask for a new Police Helicopter to aid in capturing a notorious criminal, a pie thrower of all people, it was approved and built in rapid order, along with a brand new station to house the helicopter and its staff. It was decided to build it in the newly zoned business sector between the residential and Industrial areas to better serve both areas quickly.
fortconsternationjul519.jpg

It was now, near the end of Mayor Germanicus12's term that a Ship's captain arrived complaining of treacherous currents and a rugged shoreline and requested a lighthouse to help guide the ships through the tumultuous sea. Mayor Germanicus12 was no seafarer so he decided to go ahead and build it, believing the captain was correct. It was eventually determined that it took 2 sims to change the light bulb.
fortconsternationmar311.jpg

And thus Mayor Germanicus12 leaves office amidst great cheering and clamoring for him to stay another term. For he leaves Fort Consternation in happy straits and successful and making over 4K a month.

Fort Consternation
Mayor: Peck of Arabia?
Population: 28092 (+7057) (I am not good with % so I am leaving them blank)
Mayor Rating: 8/12
Funds §24,534 (-§64,397) (Rebuilding cost a lot.)

Help!! The internet is not helpful, hopefully you can help me. How do I link the save here? I compressed the file but I have no idea how to get it out of Jzip to here.

 Seems pretty likely!

Somehow that hill that used to have all the industry just doesn't look as pretty as it did before it was industrialized and then deindustrialized :(.

What's the area in the far south-west that's linked to the main area by power lines? The army base?

I must question whether we're merely trading one dirty industry area for another. Mayor METY's Dirty Industry area was certainly not pretty, despoiling the poor hill, but now we're polluting the western bay instead. Though I do like the idea of a port there. Seems a fitting town for shipping business. And I applaud the construction of a farmer's market!

The treasury situation is also interesting. It seems like we're on a steady trajectory of everyone making their own pet project come true, proclaiming a higher pre-construction budget surplus and thus fiscal responsibility, but still winding up spending a lot more than revenue brought in. But I suppose that's bound to be the case with politicians, be they Republocrats or Demolicans. I just hope we aren't already deep in debt by the time it gets back to me...

I was able to attach the save by choosing "Go Advanced" on the post on CFC, then "Manage Attachments" down below the posting area, and choosing the .zip file from one of the "Choose" options there. I think the file size limit is 5 MB, which is probably still bigger than the city. I think Thorgalaeg is next, if he's participating.

It is sad to see such a pretty coastline ruined with ugly industries. :( Wouldnt it be better to place some beaches and build a high density residential zone to have a cool city skyline? and to hide industries in some hole behind the hills?

Ooh, an army base in Fort Consternation? Yes!

Nice work germanicus, you've done a lot of what I would have done, probably better, and certainly more decisively (I wanted a seaport and to move industry there, but probably wouldn't have gone through such pains to relocate it all)

Quintillus's method is how I uploaded my save, too, (the limit is 10MB, thankfully, but that still means there's a problem for the future, any ideas anyone?) though I'm unfamiliar with Jzip so I'm not sure if this the right method for your predicament.

Also, I would heartily encourage Thorgalaeg to take up a mayorship- if for no other reason that to give the good people of Fort Consternation a five year reprieve before my inevitable return :run:

OK, i will. But i prevent you that I will strike down upon that ugly industries along the coast with great vengeance and furious anger and replace them somewhere else. (I hope city goes not bankrupt in the process). When is my turn?

Nice! I will spend all the money accumulated by previous and more efficient mayors in some absurd and ruinous parks and beaches.

There's a good faq with a ton of stats on gamefaqs.com that lists all the demand cap busters. There's also some sim city 4 wiki out there that lists of a lot of buildings effects. Simple google searching should find it, I don't remember it offhand.

There's a lot of numbers behind everything that's going on in sim city 4, a lot that I didn't get for a long time until I started reading some guides. I could never figure out why my cities weren't attracting high wealth residential or commercial until I figured out what actually draws them there. For example, the main contributor to commercial demand is connections to other regions. It helps if the other region is one you built but connections to sim nation are valuable too. And the number of connections matter, though it tails off after a certain amount. And having freight access is a huge boon to industry etc. There's all sorts of hidden magic.

I bulldoze the farms for the space and because the provide little tax revenues and make a ton of water pollution. They're easy to get up fast for some low income jobs and the farmer's market but not worth much after that.

What is wrong with the beach closest to the already residential areas? What formerly used to be the Industrial area, but has been reclaimed for such purposes.

But it is now your city, you can do what you want. Be warned though, I have placed infrastructure in place to support the industry there, such as a shipyard and rail lines. Tread carefully when bulldozing.

I think I got the zip file uploaded let me know if it doesn't work.

Sorry germanicus12, obviously your way is much more reasonable and of course economically clever than mine, but living near the beach myself i find morally repugnant to place industries near the coast, so i have the sacred mission of cleaning all the place, relocate all the industries inland and finally build some beaches with crystal clear water where our fellow citizens can get some sunburns and drink some caipirinhas. Also the place is much more sceneic that the other coast, with the lighthouse and everything. The other one is dull. And this way we will have beaches everywhere! (i am a beach-obsessed guy as you can see)

So the relocation project was titanic. The idea was to relocate all the industrial zones already built on the cape without losing any infrastructure or industrial areas available. So after spending huge amounts of money demolishing the current industries i began looking for a place to relocate them, the chosen one was behind the hills, where the rich people cant see it. Problem was the cargo port is in the middle of the projected location for the beaches so it was going to be relocated too. The only possible place was at the sloppy coast in front of the huge hills so a railroad/road tunnel under the mountain was needed.

fortconsternationdec823.jpg

BTW, i was unable to find a way to connect the railroad coming out of the tunnel near the port with the lines at the new residential area, closing the circle. :(

fortconsternationdec823.jpg

After such pharaonic and unproductive work the next step was a lot easier: to build some high density residential zones plus some commercial zones to protect them of the industries still remaining near the cape. Said and done. Finally i placed the most expensive beaches in the world plus some parks and other eyecandy stuff. The very sloppy terrain was a problem but it will give some charm to the whole zone IMO.

fortconsternationjan125l.jpg

Sadly i have spent all my 5 years demolishing and relocating things so i had not time to build all the projected new residential zones nor to see the already built ones growing, however some rich guys have decided to move to the waterfront. I hope many more follow! (and i think so since the residential demand is huge)

fortconsternationjan125.jpg

And here we are after losing 5 years:

fortconsternationjan125.jpg

Fort Consternation
Mayor: Peck of Arabia
Population: 28690 (+588) (what was that a 2%?)
Mayor Rating: 8/12
Funds §297 (-§24237) ( at least monthly income is still positive, so it was not as apocalyptic as i thought)

BTW a new stadium is available, i had no money to build it.

 §297! Although I was kind of expecting worse, too, after losses of 74,000 and 64,000.

I do like the ritzy new waterfront. Gives the city a much more sub-tropical, warm-weather vibe as opposed to industrial port city.

Being Spanish i even considered to take a loan... :p But had an attack of responsability and decided i wouldnt load Peck with more problems. Anyway, after some brainy calculations i think that the new residential zones will double the total population in not time, so there should be money enough for future mayors.

I do like the impressive stilts and elevation funny business of the beach area. That road looks incredibly dangerous.

It remembers me of Mr. Bean beach.
