All powers expand.

In Europe, Commune and Emirate units both move into Portugal, but the Commune manages to gain an upper hand despite being outnumbered by Emirate forces. With no shots fired but itchy trigger fingers, the Emirate units withdraw south of the border. France has now annexed almost all of Western Europe, from Belgium to Switzerland to Spain and Portugal. Will this mean war? The world watches. (Opportunity: France and Wali Emirates may set DEFCON to 4 for free. This will not count as their DEFCON change for next turn.)

In Asia, Turkish and Chinese forces, regardless of the deal reached with the Northern Watch mediating, move into Sinkiang. The Turks outnumber the Chinese, but they bring only one Guard supported by two Militia battalions, as opposed to two Guards. Fighting occurs for a few weeks around major cities, but neither side can score a decisive blow before winter begins to render the point moot. However, the Chinese have seized enough of the province that the Turks are forced to retire across the border. Will this lead to an explosion of outright warfare across all of Asia? Tensions in the region climb.(DEFCON level for Great Turan and China set to 3. Opportunity: India and Australia may set DEFCON to 4 for free. This will not count as their DEFCON change for next turn.)

In North America, US forces invade Texas on schedule. However, many of their troops desert and flee into the wilds, taking up the banner of "The Deserters" and establishing a pseudo-regime in former Chihuahua, Mexico. Whether they are simple bandit kings or an up and coming Mexican state is up for debate - as is the American response to this. Though the losses have quickly been replaced by volunteers from further east, rumors persist of foreign involvement. The Deserters have quickly established a base and begun recruiting from the local populace, though their motives are unclear. (Opportunity: USA may set DEFCON to 4 for free. This will not count as their DEFCON change for next turn. New NPC: The Deserters. Claims: Chihuahua.)

A new year dawns over Earth, and no one is sure what will happen next.

The Lighthearter Magazine of National Statistics:

Nation of the Year: The Commune of France

For gaining sweeping control over all of unoccupied Iberia and Switzerland in merely a year, with no bloodshed despite competition from the Wali Emirates. France truly has earned this award.

Awarded to the nation which performs the most notable achievement during a one-year period, this award comes with a 2IP industrial bonus due to high morale. The NOTY is given every year, and the same nation cannot win two years in a row. The Commune of France will be eligible again for a NOTY in 2023.

The Egyptian Republic is happy to see that its friend is trying to work out a peaceful solution. Let our words be heard, and know that if the war escalates further we will come down on the side of the Great Turan.

Diplomacy

To: Wali Emirates
We hope that your skirmish with the French Commune does not escalate and give our commiserations on the men lost. On more local matters we would like to claim one of the two buffer zones between our nations. The other will be left for you and the Egyptian Republic will cease expansion in Africa once it is secured. Unless you have a desire for it, we will take the Northern Province.

To: The Northern Watch
We thank you for your help in helping mediate the matter between China and the Great Turan.

Due to the collapse of the watcher states, we wish to include all of Indonesia in our Sphere of Influence. Foreign troops found within that area will be met with hostility.

To: Australia
We accept Australia statement. But we would advise Australia to claim quickly that which it says it has influence over. Influence is not possession and we would not encourage anyone in the international community to see it as such.

OOC: Just to clarify that 5 is the maximum trade routes. I don't need to organise more now I have more provinces to trade from?

The UMWE have the following claims this turn...

Wali Claiments.png

We are claiming Sicily for the name of stability and to empower our policies.

Republic of Uswahili offers trade to Northern Watch (South Africa to Scotland)
Republic of Uswahili offers trade to Indian Republic (Kenya to Calcutta)
Republic of Uswahili offers trade to Falklands Commune (Tanzania to Argentina)
Republic of Uswahili offers trade to Commune of France (Mozambique to Brittany)

We would like to remind India that we signed a trade agreement.

We offer our last to Australia.

By the way the UMWE is open to trade. We are open to France as a sign of peaceful relations and to lessen tensions.

Republic of Uswahili is open to be our trade partner.

We open to the Falklands

We open to Egypt.

We would like to remind India that we signed a trade agreement.

We offer our last to Australia.

Apologies, but we have filled out our trade slots.

From China
To Everyone who wants trade:

Do you want to trade?

The Wali Emirates does not open to the Egyptian Republic because it has already been trading with us for a year. You also agreed to talk about how the two buffer states would be distributed and a defensive pact. Now we find that you have ignored our private communication for a discussion on the buffer zone, have ignored our attempt to discuss it publicly, and now has also forgotten our trade agreement.

We would like to know what is going on in the foreign affairs office of the Wali Emirates to be so rude and antagonistic a single turn after trying to be friends.

Until this matter is resolved we are putting the previously agreed Defensive Pact on hiatus.

Apologies, but we have filled out our trade slots.

From China
To Everyone who wants trade:

Do you want to trade?

We would point out that according to the Trade chart, Australia only has two trade routes active, between themselves and the Northern Watch and Uswhali. To any nation still looking for trade we would point out that the new Deserter State in America would most likely welcome all trade offered to it.

Turan and China have come to an agreement

Here are the Points

1. China keeps Sinkiang

2. The Turan Military will assist any and all Uyhgur people who wish to willingly move from Sinkiang to Turan

3. The Uyhgur people who stay in Sinkiang will receive dual citizenship to Turan and China so they can participate in elections for both nations

4. The Uyghur people in Sinkiang will not be drafted into either nation's military's but may join one or the other if they wish

5. China may place Military Structures in Sinkiang if they wish

6. China will pay 1 IP to Turan in order help the Uyghur people who moved to Turan establish a new life.

China confirms the agreement.

The United Commonwealth is pleased with the developments in Asia and will retract any and all denouncements made about the crisis.

The United Commonwealth would like to reconfirm the following trade agreements:

-Falklands Commune (East Australia - Chile)
-Republic of India (West Australia - Sri Lanka)

Failure to confirm these trade agreements will cause them to be offered to others.

Peace Brokered in China!

After much discussion, the Turan and the Chinese have come to an agreement on their dispute. Though for a time it looked like agreement was impossible, now things have settled down. Tensions linger across Asia, but the threat of open war is at least for now removed.

Opportunity: China and Great Turan may set DEFCON to 4 for free. This will not count as their DEFCON change for the turn.

China will set it's DEFCON level to 4.

We also offer trade. Does not anyone want to trade?

From China
To Everyone who wants trade:

Do you want to trade?

Yes.

@Canada- We'd like Alaska, and we absolutely must have Oregon. We're willing to pay for them, of course, whether you would like cash, or whether you would like us to take some unclaimed territory in the Caribbean or some such and give it to you in exchange, but we cannot allow you to keep Oregon.

Our initial offer is a full turn's income for BOTH of the territories, and a promise not to claim any other territories in the United States (This includes the Continental USA, Alaska, and Hawaii. It does NOT include provinces such as Puerto Rico, Guam, exc.)

In addition, if Canada should accept this deal, we are willing to trade and sign an alliance for the betterment of North America, but not until a deal is reached regarding the territories.
