Favourite civ tournament

Close enough I have to vote.

Phoenicia

Moors because I think it's the most polished civilization compared to the other two. I still don't like the way a lot of units stacks for nothing at Sur, and I don't like the way Egypt respawn.

After a strong early showing for Egypt, Phoenicia took the lead and won!

Spoiler :
Egypt: 5 - 33,3%
Moors: 3 - 20,0%
Phoenicia/Carthage: 7 - 46,7%

Match 6:

In the yellow corner, spawning in 3000 BC and continuing to exist throughout history, it's
China
VS
In the blue corner, spawning in 65 AD with two continents for themselves, it's
Maya
VS
And in the white corner, spawning in 525 AD on their uninvadable archipelago, it's
Japan

This is a very difficult one for me, because China and Maya are both among my favourite civs, both in DoC and in real history. For now, I'm going to cast my vote for Maya.

China, because it was the longest lasting civilization in world history, bar none.

(And that I'm Chinese.)

It's China vs. Japan obviously.

UP: Japan > China. Both awesome, but Japan's UP is one of the most overpowered in this game and makes them truly invincible. China's UP is less visible and becomes a plain tech rate boost after a while in Human hands.

UB: China > Japan. China's UB is actually real, and has a real and important effect on game play. Neither can be said of Japan's UB.

UU: China = Japan. Both are there mostly for flavor (and they are both good for this purpose), as neither civ needs a UU at all for different reasons.

UHVs: China > Japan. Japan has 1 interesting UHV, the expansion one. The other 2 UHVs are time wasters, nothing more (especially "first to finish tech tree - ewww"). All 3 of China's UHVs are balanced and yet challenging.

Vote goes to China. IMO the definitive 3000BC civ along with Rome.

Maya

They have the time to shape the histroy of the New World in whatever way you choose, which can be a lot of fun.

^ Well, the Maya are too isolated from other civs so it's not that interesting to me. The Aztecs are also isolated but their UP makes fighting Barbarians much more fun. And the Incan UP/UB/Stability Map allows you to set up an impenetrable defense system. With the Maya fighting endless waves of Dog Soldiers is just incredibly tedious. Sure you can occasionally snatch Great Library but that's about the only highlight of Maya's game and not by design.

So usually if I want to play as a native American civ I go for Aztecs or Inca. Less time spent laboring alone in the dark.

It's nobody's fault really. The Mayans deserve to be included and this is really close to the best way to represent them. :eek2:
