sorry my computer got screwed up. updated windows and on restart my keyboard and mouse seized to work. looked it up and many ppl with my model have that problem and no soluion, in pc repair now hopefully can pickup tomorrow.

I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled tuesday tho, so with the need to rest, i will have a lot of modding time
 
i decided to go with what you said,

the at first stage - ill use bts vanilla xml tags for the wonders.
merging platypings wonders, is a long work, cause i need to hand pick all the wonders, and its time consuming.

i got around 20 wonders so far.
keeping up the work.

got all the notable wonders you guys raised here, as well as more i found on Wikipedia. got plenty of buildings yet.
i dont think ill finish the wonders on the week end, it will take me a few more days i guess.
after that i have to go through over every building and set its cost.......

OK, im done with week end modding.
i think i made near a 100 buildings and wonders since the Thursday.
i got 7 more "x" tiers of techs to put wonders in - in other words im almost halfway done with the civil war era in terms of putting wonders.

all of the buildings and wonders are taken from real life american inventions and time line. i am very loyal with my tech tree to real life , so i got some really cool stuff in it, i leant so much about history of america in the past few weeks :)

hopefully, in 3-4 days the building stage will be behind me,
although when i get religions in, i gotta put religion buildings in (ill take the vanilla buildings so it will be fast).
next week end should mark the beginning of the actual map work - i have some copies but i need to create a large and standard map sizes.

p.s. in the latest version - i didn't use the cartridge yet, and its not positioned well in the tech tree - i need to find some use to it. ill think about it later - i wanna do some special promotion or building with it.

No luck on the computer, pc repair said itll be expensive to fix as i have a harddrive prblm, but he called sony and im still under warranty

Two hours on the phone later i am rescuing the data i need (5gb of mods....and its taking literally 5 hours to extract...) and tomorrow morning going to attempt the repair sony suggested

on sepetember i have holidays coming, and ill do anything i can to finish the mod by that time so i can relax and play it then.

Hey Kel, historically cartridge came right after cap and ball, towards the end of the civil war. I'll try to get you more details when I get time.

I have backups, but i mod everyday so and i havent backed up in about a week so i would have lost about a week of work, but it was all recovered.

Currently restoring now, but if this doesnt work and I have to take my computer in to sony for a longer fix, i have access to other computers, just non with civ (if the fix is going to take longer than say a week, i have a comp i can download civ onto) so i would be willing to do ssimple xml work, such as the 123 u named above, so why dont you eave those to me?

I really dislike you doing the whole mod. :lol: not because you are bad at it, but because we teamed up, and I want to hold my share
 
Well, Dac, you can look at it as an Alpha in order to get the base ideas down, then once that happens and you input your ideas you can make it a Beta. If we're talking shares here, the only thing I've managed to provide is some historical ideas. I haven't really had time to do any custom maps or xml like I said I would. Lol, patience grasshopper, we'll get it there one way or another.

about historical background and mod similarity - in the past weaks and this weak end, i read so much about the civil war, i feel like an expert :)
if youll check out the buildings and wonders - youll find that 90% of them have historical meaning - i used inventions, inventors names and notable stuff for the appropriate eras.

although i think i wanna change placement of some wonders ive put i think too early and too late in the tech tree.

anyway - im happy to say i just finished getting about 20 more wonders, so basically im 99% done with the buildings.
i fear for balance though, just so you know - my guideline with buildings is to link the buildings, economy and production to the resources, many buildings provide bonus attributes.
1 thing i like in my mods is that you have to struggle (to the very last tech) to get money - it makes you think about strategy, building stuff and units.

those are just my ideas :)


dont worry about me doing this mod solo so far, believe me, youll have plenty to do :)
as drak said - we are just building a first alpha beta gamma version, in two month, i bet the mod, the techs and more will change a lot with our shared input.
its just something to get us going.

i think the most important thing now is to set the costs for every building after the obsolete tech (if any) and last the max era start.


i know you got talent with the art,
thought - my system of modding is art as the last part (besides units). the buildings all use generic art for now, later we can change. i wanna get the structure of the mod first.
but of course - you can do what ever you want first :) i dont mind as long as you have fun working on the mod.
anyway - maybe you can make us some cool rifle/musket man ( i used what the site has to offer for now) later on i hope.
(another stage i wanna get that i didnt do is to do the natives unit art styles - i did only for union and confederacy)

1, move the independence tech before the first unit tier (after the few starting techs ) and maybe add another layer of techs with a second unit tire (i guess that will be in a longer term of the mod) just a thought i had.

4. anyone got some idea of how to do something with founding fathers? maybe make then as projects? we can choose 5-10 of the most famous ones, and do them as projects/wonders?

An idea for your great statesman/founding father thing

What I am going to do in my Modern mod is replace prophet with great businessman. I see only problems when I attempt to change great people. I am not going to change the xml much of the unit (same type/class) just rename it and new art, and new effects (only great person to build corporations, and there will be over 100 in that mod).

So I was thinking possibly do the same in this mod, as great prophet seems (semi) useless. I was thinking replace it with "Great Patriot".
 
Interesting Idea Dac. Have you thought of maybe pulling anything from Col? Or even seeing if Writing Bull minds if you pull some ideas from his TAC mod? I've played both TAC and RAR, and it gives Colonization a whole new level. If you get a chance, maybe take a looksie and see what you think.
 
Yes a lot could be borrowed from Col, I've never played any col mods though, not a big col fan (I really like the concept, I feel it could have been developed a bit more)

Faneuil Hall is currently in the makes, most detailed building (from scratch) ive done so far
 
Keldath, you do art correct? Can you take a look at my Faneuil hall? Whenever I Export it out of blender, I can't get the skin to attach. Hope the nif python dl didn't get installed wrong :mad:

Spent quiet a lot of time on this one, think it looks real good though, hate to see it not work


Don't sound the alarm!!!! Figured out my problem, I tried to use Paint.net instead for dds, and it was screwing up my skins, and blender was able to cope with it but nifskope was not.
 
Lol, hence my suggestion you take a peek at TAC and RAR..

great patriot is great add it in, although ill make the prophet into - missionary, we need someone to carry religions :)

tac mod and col, i havnt checked coll yet for salvageble stuff, i will do that.

as for art - well i can resize stuff, change files, merge items, but i dont know much about using blender so my help with art aint much :)

great we have a first building art :) 150 more to go :) hehehe.
