Hey, great pics guys!

I always wanted to go up in a balloon, and take the wife. What does it run?

There's no way I could have stood erect in a basket like that - I've got a fear of heights that would completely preclude that - especially since the basket rail isn't taller than your shoulders :run:

I can relate. I have acute claustrophobia, and I spent many hours in crawlspaces working on plumbing and electrical...

Heights? No problem.

Falling? Problem.

I'm terrified of heights myself. I have a classic phobic response and I can't even help myself most of the time.

I get uncomfortable around heights as well, though it kind of differs where I am.

I feel fine at the top of the Sear's Tower, but I hate airplanes and roller coasters. I think it might have to do with heights in a non-enclosed area, possibly.

I used to be deathly afraid of rollercoasters due to my fear of heights. I will not get into how I overcame that particular fear and how I can now love rollercoasters because it would be against forum rules, but I remain afraid of heights. It's just that I've conditioned my body to "understand" that in certain situations it is perfectly safe to be high up, even though the fear is there. So I can enjoy rollercoasters now, even though I still get that "oh no" feeling in my stomach when we're slowly being pulled up and up and up and it's really high and holy crap.

When I'm standing beside a window 50 stories up, I get that feeling too. I do not feel comfortable in that situation. I would do a balloon trip like that, but it'd probably make me very uncomfortable for the entire ride. I'd do it once to just have done it, after spending a considerable amount of time researching balloon safety & the operator, to convince my body that it was safe (enough).

i like roller coasters now because you can't be having fun and be scared at the same time.

Exciting, Birdjaguar. How was the trip?
It was spectacular. I added a few more pics below.

Typically, about $150 per person, but during balloon festival it is more.

Our gondola was quite small it only held three of us: the pilot, a co worker and me. When the burner is off, there is no sense of movement or any wind (you are moving with it) and it is very quiet. My biggest fear was dropping my iPad when I held it over the side to take pictures.

One picture shows the Rio Grande looking north from Albuquerque as we crossed it. Our path followed the other balloons to the NW. The forest below is the "bosque", the large cottonwood forest that lines the river for much of its path through NM.

The other picture shows the launch field as we lifted off. Several shaped balloons can be seen. Only a couple of hundred lifted off that morning. With good weather and no wind, we should see 700 on Saturday morning.
