Hopefully this is the right place for suggestions. I suspect I'm not the only one perturbed by the huge jump in weapons technology between the two ranged units. Perhaps a late medieval/Renaissance unit would smooth the transition. Some kind of multiple barrel firearm, like an organ/volley gun, or a ribault/ribauld/ribauldequin, with strength in the mid to high twenties to compensate for the pang of losing the extra range?

Someone has already made a ribault for Civ IV, so it would be a matter of permissions and porting the model.

I know nuts about modding Civ V, so just throwing the idea out for someone more talented to take a whack if they'd like. ;)

-snip wow I'm stupid we're calling it two different things, you a ribault, me an organ gun-

Glad we had the same idea though.

But actually, I feel like the Crossbow should upgrade into like some arquebusier. Both trebuchet and crossbow upgrade to it. Gatling gun originates in its own path. Either that or split artillery into two paths, one for bombardment and the other for anti-infantry.

Infantry path would be like, Organ gun, field gun, mortar, stuff like that.

Wolfdog has ported a volley gun from Civ4. Looks pretty good as is, though the crew could do with having civ colours.

Whipped up a quick and dirty unit icon replacement, if someone wants to run with the idea. I'm attaching the transparent vector as a .rar, since I know nothing about GIMP and DDS files, yet alone getting any of it into the game.

I'll make the crew teamcolor.

EDIT: Attached a replacement dds diffuse file.

There were already teamcolor elements (including portions of the gun carriage), but as far as the crew, I changed it from the plumes and sashes (which were obviously tough to notice) to the jacket.

What about,
Crossbow(medieval)-->Marskman(renaissance)-->Gatling Gun(industrial)
also the knight to Cavalry is odd.
Knight(medieval)-->Dragoon/Cuirassier(renaissance)-->Cavalry(industrial)
