While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Expansion: Brave New World
 • Victory Condition: Science (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: King
 • Map Size: Standard
 • Map Type: Shuffle
 • Speed: Quick
 • Leader: Any
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: SV8
 • Date: 17th February to 1st March 2014
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.

Well, if it's obvious, then I guess we'll just see which leader ends up winning this one, won't we? ;)

I don't think leader pick is obvious at all, though i think there can be no more than like 5 candidates for the best leader

im not used to playing on quick speed, i think this science is pretty good for quick? at least it feels like a good game so far. so much micro in science games :S, keep HOF to domination haha

Oy. Thanks for posting about this. I was totally playing on Standard speed.

Since that game is dead now anyway, I had to share: On a lark (and because I have no HOF games with them) I decided to play Aztecs. I got the most stupid ridiculously legendary start.

Stupid because: no mountains, all coastal with no sea luxes, no lakes, no rivers... all bad for an aztec science game.

Legendary because: hill marble with 4 salt, 2 deer & 2 stone, and mt kailash 5 tiles away with more salt, wheat, banana and gems. NP I thought, I'll put the observatory in my expo, run cargo ships, and that'll make up for it.

I wander up the coast and there's a 3 wheat, 2 salt, 1 deer spot the perfect distance away. Ok, fine, I'll plop one down there too.. And then I run into Venice. I steal 4 workers from him by t30 while I build GL. My scout gets vision + 2 and then I find Attila. Attila has the mother of all sea starts, and he chose God of the Sea. His capital has 6 fishing boats and the rest is all hills... with Silver. Hahaha. By now I've determined that I'm on a very squiggly continent with only the two of them. So, clearly not Pangaea... and definitely not ideal. But, I have GL, HG, ToA, and a horde of Composite bows. I own Venice, and beat down Attila, and I've got 5 cities (my 3 + Venice and Attila's Court), I've got all the religious beliefs I want, and I hit Education on t100. Not super-early, but damn good considering I was in the middle of a war.

And then, I read this post. Quick. QUICK. Sigh. Not that t100 Education w/ Aztecs was going to win anything, but I was having so much fun! Oh well hehe.

The VVV is a leaderboard.
Every game you play gets points and who has the most points is the Nr 1 player.
There are 6 categories.
Difficulty, victory type, map size, speed, map type and leader.
They each have also a leaderboard on their own.
Combined they give you a VVV score.

thats a shame! seems like an interresting game

It was. That's why I kept playing after I rolled a start with no lakes or rivers. I specifically chose the Aztecs for their floating gardens. I want to see if they're as uber as they look, and I've never tried SV with them. Unfortunately with shuffle I get a lot of weird starts. Aiming for mountains AND lakes AND good early hammers/food/luxes makes for quite a lot of re-rolling though. Maybe I'll just go back to Babylon. :P

Which reminds me... It's tempting to play as a civ with a good start bias, because you can immediately tell if it's a crappy map type if you don't get the bias. (Some map types throw out bias I think)

Obviously I have bias turned off for Aztecs because... jungle? No thanks! And I don't even think lakes are part of their bias. :P

finish it for the VVV :)

I always think I'm going to do that but I almost never go back and finish games. :P

Sometimes I plan on it but I forgot to backup my autosaves this time. I also forgot to do that with a Denmark game I had meant to finish. Sigh. I usually just save, go back to main menu and roll up a new game. It's so hard to remember to tab out and copy the autosaves... for me anyway.

long turn times -_-, but playing thoroughly! (spelling?) turn 129, got plastics, soon bulb time!

WOW!:goodjob: It's a totally different world at the top of the Civ 5 food chain. That is totally amazing. I feel like I've had a phenomenal game if I just reach Modern by 200. Plastics?!?!?! @129?

Edit: Oh wait, it's quick, I forgot, too. That still sounds pretty amazing. About what turn does that compare with on standard?
