The Great DoC UHV v 1.12 challenge

for example, stealing astronomy is 1.800 EP, 4-5 turns of financing espionage, instead of financing science during 20 turns...

I have a feeling Paragon does not adjust modifiers for espionage the same way it does for science. This does not sound remotely right.

Strategy:
You may be lucky and all your oppenents have archer armies, but in most cases you have to win against melee units. So I went and settled my first city on horse and train exclusively horsemen. Except Great Wonders I trained horsemen the whole time. A second tip is focusing on the cores. Does Babylonia has a stack of doom in a walled Kalhu? Just attack the subdefended Babilu and problem solved.

Finally, the last problem you have to encouter is maintainance cost, so beeline Mathematics and calendar/currency.

Nah. Everything is fine with espionage. I'm not an expert in espionage too, but if I'm not mistaken, base cost EP is even higher than science. But many factors reducing base cost significantly. Literally few times.

It's actually very short and simple game.
Adopt pantheon and mercenaries, all sliders "0".
Pantheon is to sign OB with literally any civ you will meet, just send your starting missionaire to establish contacts. (but mainly it's for Morocco, because we going to conquer Egypt, so, we need OB with Morocco).
Mercenaries to hire couple of knights to conquer Alexandria, and then hire knights in Alexandria to conquer rest of Egypt and East Africa.
After rich lands of Egypt are conquered, finance EP against Spain to steal optics, and later astronomy, and actually we don't need any other techs. Take carrack and send it to Aztecs, to trigger "conquerors" event. Load your "conquerors" in carracks. Using them take Kongo, after it send them in Thailand, to take their cities rich with TC resources. Make it so, that TC event "stack" appeared near Tumasik in same days, if you are paying for this colonies, make sure you already in a war with Srivijaya.
In total 10 cities of 15 in Africa/Brazil/Asia for 3rd goal, was conquered. If still not enough TC resources, just buy some from Mughals and Srivijaya.
Needless to say, that with this strategy all UHV goals was accomplished quite early (in 1620). (savegame for virtual victory is attached).

Strategy:
The main challenge here is researching while maintaining a large empire. Discovering currency ASAP seems to help a lot. Additionally, when you go to conquer sb make sure to conquer him quickly, in other words prepare a reasonable and trained stack of units.

Byzantium spawned unfortunately. It had Theology, but strangly this didn't make me to lose.

I think is impossible to win a victory with different virtual and actual victory dates.

You are describing the default situation. Increased difficulty assumes that everything suppose to get more expensive compared to how things were at Regent level, given the same situation.

Edit: Never mind. In 1700 AD Chinese start it costs 6430:espionage: to steal MT from Madrid on Regent vs 11051:espionage: on Paragon. Same 82% probability both times.

I actually started this game with a religious (hindu) victory in mind, but when I founded Zoroastrianism 1 turn before Persian spawn, I decided to go for uhv instead.
I researched Priesthood asap after that, and even so barely got the second shrine in time (145 BC).

I then proceded to research Iron Working, Theology (was a mistake because catholicism had been founded by Carthage in 310 BC), Calendar, Construction, Horseback Riding, Currency.

Meanwhile, after Founding Lahore and Mumbai, I conquered the Tamils with Swordsmen and Catapults, getting 7 cities in the Indian peninsula and thus allowing to meet the temple goal with 3 religions just in time (last temple whipped in 680 AD).

It was then time to build some elphants to conquer independants in collapsed china, and to send my swordsman via galley to Indonesia. Both conquests were very easy (usually 1 defender per city). I chose not to conquer the Khmer.

I had a big scare in 950 AD when the Chinese respawned, dropping my pop to 18% of the world, but I managed to re-conquer the two Chinese coastal cities in time to secure the win (~21% world pop).

Victory at 1450 AD. One of the fast food Euro civ victories. The score is 15428, I lost Bagdad and Jerusalem to Turkey as they declared war on me when my 2/3 UHV golden age triggered. I had no troop to defend the cities as I spent all my resources teching and working specialists.

still having trouble with the indian UHV. tried the suggested 'Conquer China' route. it sort of worked, then the whole zone flipped to china in 610 ad

:(

help!

Well, don't try to conquer China, unless they have collapsed into independent cities, then you can take the coastal ones.

Aim for Khmer and Indonesia instead, their cities(1 and 3 respectively) can grow reasonably big. Don't forget to build courthouses for stability.

I propose to conquer Tamils early and found cities around like Sumatra. If you want to conquer, conquer the most valnerable targets, like Indonesia. If you go for Persia mind the seljuk conquerors (spawn around 1050AD).

yeah, the Seljuk conquerors wrecked me. I beat two of their stacks but just couldnt handle the other 3.

Strategy:
You need to access currency ASAP for great merchant. Unfortunately, I couldn't buy mathematics, so I bought currency from Indian in an unfair trade, but it was the only solution to save the game.

It needs one great artist, and two great merchants. The great artist and the first great merchant must spawn before 780AD, so you need two cities to farm great people. Start farming the third great merchant early (even before spawnning the second, the earlier the less gambling later).

Alternative strategies:
I think the best civic here is mercanaries. After 800AD, the gold is so much, that I had over 1000 gold when I won. So switch to mercanaries and buy the army you will use against India, and if possible conquer the fully subcontinent for score.

Conquering India early is a good option too. If you conquer the holy city prepare to send the first great merchant far away.

is it necessary to get Zoriastrianism? How are you dealing with the 20 temples in 700 AD requirement? there just isnt enough space.

You need 10 cities and the subcontinent has enough space for 11 cities. Khajuraho helps.

57.000 score, first time I see that many.
1.Conquests.
To win UHV, in your starting roll should not be archers in Egypt, only warriors, and if possible be 2 hullaganni as on screenshot.
Spoiler :
(sometimes they appear, sometimes not, just restart the game, if you want this hullugrannies or whatever their name is)

Conquer Egypt with hoplites and send your hulluguys to Babylon, they have around 20% chance against babylonian bowman, so, just save the game and try your luck. Actually hullaguys doing well.
Spoiler :
But probably its doable with hoplites, besides they will get some xp in Egypt. Not sure tho, didn't try hoplites on this difficulty.
In any way, conquering Babylon is most hardest moment in this game, and worth of restart in bad situation. Rest is relatively easy.

Raze indi Kalhu and Shush, put 1 hoplite on Ankyra spot, then indi Ankyra(or whatever its name) won't appear. Take Sur with hoplites/hulluguys.

When iron working be discovered prepare 5-6 swordsmen-city raiders in Babylon,if you feel that it won't be enough then take 2-4 from Egypt(Dispolis is quite productive too), take rest of your units and conquer Persia. Managed to do this on turn 112.

Leave few hoplites near Babylon to protect cities from vultures and Roman legions, leave few spearmen in Persepolis.

2. Teching
I prefer this: masonry->priesthood->iron working (to enter in classical era)->build oracle, choose metal casting->aesthetics->literature->drama->mathematics/alphabet(buy/research that scientiests was able to bulb phylosophy, instead of mathematics or alphabet)->phylosphy.
We simply have no time to research monarchy on this difficulty, Dynasticism will be available after Parthenon will be built.

And if you feel that you have no enough cash in your treasury, then start to build Temple of Artemis, Oracle, any other wonder in one city, but in the end build this Wonder in another. When city won't be able to continue constructing wonder it will give some money. For example, Temple of Artemis gave me 250 gold, and only thanks to this I managed to discover Aesthetics in time.

Trading with India and China is very important for teching. (trade routes in my capital with Temple of Artemis was giving 6-7 commerce and this literally in the beginning of the game)

Make 1 scout in Persepolis, send him through jungles to China and leave him there, to avoid losing contact. Build a road from Babylon to Persepolis, from Persepolis to Lahore. From time to time barb. triremes appears near west coast of India, and blocking connection with Asia, so, road is necessarily.

Sign OB with both - India and China, trade resources and tehcs with them actively, it's very important. Make few spearmen to protect your road from barb. horse archers.
All cities producing research/wealth.

And also, any game started for Greece, deserves to be continued just for fun. One of the most interesting civs to play. I really hope it won't change too much in worst side in the future.

Settle cities and farm the land. Don't be afraid to overlap since you won't have enough resources to support pop 20+ cities. A bunch of pop 10+ cities will do just fine. Plus, you have the Polish UP, which is madly good.:scan:

You'd want to capture Kiev but that's it. Don't get involved in any more wars.

Beeline Liberalism and then go for Music. I used 2 Great Scientists to accelerate the research of Education. Poland starts with decent techs so you will be able to trade around, wait for the right opportunity.

And the highest score goes to... the Independents!
