This game is supposed to be a remake of the currently still running Dominearthion game. Most of the players from there will play here as well, but I'm sure we are gonna have a quitter or two (looking at you, Nighthawk) which means this game isn't yet closed to newcomers.

In a nutshell we are gonna play one of those Modern Earth scenarios, with leaders like Obama, Putin etc., with every player controlling several civs as one team, like the American, European or Chinese block for instance, so as to not have any AIs in the game.

Details are still hazy, this thread will be edited later.

For now I claim 'Murrica and vassals allies for myself.

As I understand it we will be using version 1.4 of some mod Kiwitt made, gonna have to take a look at it first before making up teams.

I STRONGLY recommend we let AI in. Playing countries like USA, Russia, China and EU may feel like a full time job already. Let the unlucky last player experience all the AI lag.

Eh, first I want a good look at the specific scenario we are playing, probably Kiwitt's mod, then I'll make up my mind about who gets what civs. Honestly I think you should get Arabs, everything they suffered in the last game was your fault!

I would recommend that you do not play major countries like the USA, China or Russia, for balance reasons. Do something similar to Minor League and pick mid level nations and preferably non-nuclear as well.

I have set the 1.4 start date as January 2016

Nominate Japan for myself ;)

Unacceptable. Playing world powers is the whole point of this game!

If you look at Modern Earth, playing USA with any other nation would be over-powering. USA would have to be standalone. I suggest you play a few games of Modern Earth to get a feel of the limitations I have placed in it compared to Earth 2010/2012. But if you do insist on setting up groupings, I will take a look at what nations should be part of each. How many groups do you propose?

Gah! Gah! GAH! 1.100 cities!?!?!?!??! (insert that one scene from Back to the Future where Doc Brown flips out over 1.21 gigawatts) Who is supposed to play on that map? NASA engineers at work?

Downloading right now, I am curious if my PC can even handle booting it up.

i´m fine with both options. but from a time-consuming point of view, i think that using a minor league approach would be the best option.

Guys, have you even looked at this map? It's ridiculously cluttered! Every little nook and cranny is filled with a dozen cities. Like, I disliked about the previous scenario that there were several good tiles not within any BFC, but this is going too far into the opposite diection. Frankly this isn't really what I imagined.

Welcome to a more realistic world ... lol. Don't forget all the initial relationship settings between countries as well.

I can understand you completely, but because I never tried anything like this I am willing to try. The main attraction is the extraordinary level of details in naming all the units and research that went into this. This is almost as good as real life president's briefing on your nation's military and main cities. Try Israel, for example. They have 3 cities only!

I still am not convinced, the sheer density of cities in some areas is unbelievable. While I don't mind overlap of workable areas, cities withing other cities' BFC is a huge turn off for me, and something I dislike in RFC as well.

You'll get used to it at some point. It is all about the perception of depicted reality. Most cities feed themselves in this mod, thanks to their buildings and specialists. Local Farmers and Fishermen contribute less, which is the case for many places on Earth were bulk of the consumed food is not locally grown. Think about this mod as a model which describes Earth from the perspective different that the one found in vanila.

I would like to suggest the theme for this game to be "Every Man's Land" where each player is basically controlling his native civ. Basically Knoedel will get EU countries, kiwitt Pacific countries, Hercules Australia, academia Argentina and yours truly CIS countries. And because domination on this map is impossible (like in real life) lets think about some cool house victories, like number of terrorists killed after hundred turns or eliminating all the human opponents, or doubling the current GDP.

I didn't think you one of those "The South will rise again" types.

Blergh, the whole point of this game was so I could go and boss everybody around as America!

Throwing my hat in the ring. I emphasize with knodal, I suppose it just depends what you want from the game though doesn't it. My main worry is that people with start to lose interest with mammoth turns, and the last person will deal with about 20mins of AI lag probably!

Just opened it up and had a look - some great leader heads (Putin is scary good) although this would be a mammoth undertaking to play. Especially as Russia/USA/EU. Have others looked at it? Not quite sure how fast this would move...

The leaderheads are the same as in the scenario we are using for Dominearthion already.

You can be British. Some important corporations there. Nobody should play USA, China and Russia, imo.

I play the game on a Core-i7-4790k - 4.4ghz with 8GB RAM. I previous played it on a Core-i7-920 2.6ghz with 6 GB of RAM. You definitely need to be running Windows 64bit with 6 GB+ RAM so Civ IV will get access to a full 4GB of RAM. Upgrading the processor saw my initial turn times drop from upto 10 minutes to a more manageable 2-3 minutes. Because of the number of cities and units the major powers have, you need to do a lot of micro-management. This is why I believe that major nations should be AI.
