Hello All,
Hope this isnt too much off a noob question but, I have an Army on my home continent, and want to move it overseas.....When will I have a transport unit capable of this? I have caravels now and it still will not load for me....Thanks in advance for the info....This is a great forum.

Yep, an army with 3 units in it counts as 4 for transport purposes. The army itself counts as a unit.

Welcome to CFC!

Yes, the army unit (leader), also counts as a unit.

If you want to transport it in caravels:
1) put 2 units in the army
2) transport it and other unit in two caravels
3) put the other unit in the army

You have the army in the other continent with caravels.

Oh yeah....:(
.....also I probably should have loaded "Elite" units......oh well, live and learn.....

Kinda spazzed out, cause I was so stoked to see an Army...finally....:crazyeye:

yeah it sucks you cant upgrade units in an army and you cant airlift armies so now I am stuck with two armies that get hammered with every attack!!! I think that with civ 4 they should address this!!!

Units within an army can be promoted. The problem is that it's always unit #1 that's attacking until unit #1 loses enough hps. Thus far I've not managed to have any more than the first unit in an army get promoted. Then the question is, can that elite unit in the army spawn a leader? Perhaps one of the resident gurus could answer that one... :)

You should load elite* units, they have made a leader already and can't make any more

I usually put spent Elite (*) units in armies, and veterans. Your troops can be promoted, but I never had an army spawn a great leader, I think they simply cannot as silver2039 already said.
