This post originated from the variety of sugestions for CIV4
see http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=87836&page=3&pp=20

My question is simple:
All of us CIV players have a self-concept during the game:God, Benevolent or Malevolent ruler, General, administrator or whatever you can think...

What is your concept?
Is it variable?
Would you like more or less control?
What is the AI?

talk to me...

see myself as the " Protector of justice "

I protect the AI from their stupidity and therefore I conquer them
...and release them from the pain of existence...lol...

I see myself as GW bush.

My goal is to have as much power as possible, preferably conquer the world. When i cannot beat the world alone, i'll gladly pay people to be my ally though. Military is the best way to make people listen to you.

i rarely play games to the 'bitter' end
i like securing the important ressources, improving in culture, building trade routes and maintain my empire as an unity.
sometimes, when my continent is too small to have all ressources i build only 6-8 cities and no forbiden palace. I wait until i kwon where the other ressources are. then i build a big invasion army and ocupy the required ressources, build 4-6 cities there and the forbidden palace (mostly using a leader or sacrifying infantery, battleships or bomber first for a courthouse, factory and maybe police station, then building the forbidden palace). for this reason i strike first at the place where my palace will stay. After reestablishing peace, the other nations aren't a threat any more an i stop playing.
but often even this invasion is too boring to me, because of the micromanagement i have to do until all units are ready to go.

Thats makes you a moderately enlighted Emperor then...I guesss...

I am a Hitleresque nationalist, caring for the well-being of my own people and hell-bent on eradicating the rest of the world. I usually practice ethnic cleansing when taking over an enemy city, starving the original population to death. I would stab anyone in the back at any time if I think it would benefit my civs. I don't know what to call that. I used to be a very peaceful builder, I could play entire games without ever going to war, but now I'm slowly learning how to be more agressive.

Needless to say, I like to have control. It has taken me quite a few games to dare automating workers and use the governor to manage citizen moods. I don't think I will ever be able to let go of production control.

So I'm pretty much an unreliable nationalist fascist control freak slowly picking up the knowledge of how to take over the world without any regard for anyone else.

I asked that because of the numerous suggestions in the CIV4 ideas forum about factions and subculture that will lead to loss of control...

i don't contradict you because playing about 12 h a month doesn't help find out much more than how the game rules work

what would you improve

though with little expanding i can build many wonders, defend easily, build strong cities which produce an unit in 2 to 4 turns, lead tech and balancing the game supporting weaker nations. And the game is longer challenging, because i hinder the AI only in acute situations.

supporting weaker nations
isn't that your personal trait then?...Lol

ok i try to help a lazy, stupid mob (because the ai is much more productive at higher levels) to survive in the modern era where the game gets boring

i've never found fun in conquering the whole world

Supreme Diplomatic General. I make treaties and alliances with the strong, destroy the weak, become strong, destroy the strong. :D

I'm the topdawg, no one must be better than my Civ. If they are, I scheme their neighbours into cutting them to pieces. And when they grow too big, I do the same to them... etc. etc. Until all resources are mine!

So I'm a republican in short.

I am an insane megalomaniac. :p Playing Earth map as China, 30 AI opponents, I conquered Korea with archers, India with horsemen, and the entire Middle East, Europe and north Africa during my medieval age. :D (UU and golden age helped a lot.) Think the Mongol Empire x 2...

Then I inexplicably turn builder and become peaceful (there's nobody else left to fight by land except the backwards Zulu), so that I can cross the Pacific and surprise the Aztecs, Iroquois and Incas with tanks and planes.

Oh and I did this on chieftain, purely for my ego. :crazyeye:

there is a cure for this disease http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=89379

Ideally that option would be optional so as soon as you get bored of building an empire you can watch it be destroyed.

Benevolent Dictator- All bow down to my good and glorious rule. :D
