*** GAME STARTED ***

Hi, this is the thread for the new PBEM game I plan on starting.

Bikini was the atoll on which USA tested their nuclear devices after WWII but since it is in the Pacific, I guess the name is clear enough.

This game is mostly aimed (but not only) at newcomers who want to practice on a fast going scenario. Among Allies, one experienced player at least would be needed to provide guidance (not orders) to the others.
For PBEM newbies or newbies to this scenario, I would advise you to read the "Kamikaze" (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=85307) and "Zero"(http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=87162) thread to gather some infos.

It is for Conquests, using the MP version of the WWII Pacific scenario and the patch 1.22.
So you need to have both Conquests and the patch 1.22 installed on your computer.

Civs will be attributed randomly. Other possibility, all players agree on which civ they take, and I can take the Dutch.

5 civs :

Japan : Eric_A
USA : Sega Fanatic
Commonwealth : Sir Len Taft
China : Oblivion
Dutch : Coletite

Players : 5

1. Coletite
2. Sir Len Taft
3. Sega Fanatic
4. Oblivion
5. Eric_A

You want to be in ? You have further questions ? Post in this thread or send me a PM. If ready to join, send me a PM with your e-mail.

Organization : the game will be called Bikini to be recognizable.
When you get the game, send a mail to inform the sender you got it, play it ASAP and send it ASAP so that the game moves fast between the 5 players.

No special rules for entry except that :
1/ you must understand this is a long term project that needs commitment (you get the game, you play it and send it ASAP) so if you are not sure 200% you will keep playing it, better not to sign in (thus you show your respect to the other players).
2/ I f you must leave for a few days or if you must drop out, you will warn us in advance so we can wait or look for a replacement player.
3/ understand the way you play is not automatically the way others play (so accept these differences) and that this is a game that should not lead to actual troubles, rivalries between players (limited here since there is always war between two distinct "teams").
4/ You don't use any cheats. I don't know where they are but I have heard there are some. Use them in single gaming if you like but here it would definitely spoil the fun.

Beside that, only rule is to have fun ... and to win if possible.

I'm interested. I've hardly played this scenario but if we are to decide civs, I'd like a try on Commonwealth.

LouLong, I will not be playing this one (since I am already in the Zero one you set up) however, I think that I have come up with a way for the Japanese to move first in a turn.

It appears that the game automatically assigns who moves first based on the order they appear in the editor chart. If you were to switch the barbarians to the Japanese, copying all relevant information etc, then the Japanese should automatically move first in the scenario. This would prevent the American player from producing a bunch of (possibly) unwanted flak units. In the Zero game, no Allied player (maybe the Dutch, I'm not sure) got to even see turn one so I (the American) ended up with several flak units built on turn two (since I had no turn 1, I could not change the production queue).

Just some food for thought.

Hope you guys all have as much fun as we are having in the Zero chapter of Japanese aggression.

LouLong, I will not play this one. I just wanted to offer two bits of advice.

- First is to the allies. LouLong is right when he said you need to designate an allied person to run the allied camp. We did not designate a person to "run the show" when we started our game, but that's because we are all experienced. We did work together as a team and that helped out a bunch. We also make group decisions and everybody did what the group decided on. That made a HUGE impact on the game.

- Second is to offer a link to a game when I was the Japanese. It is located here Unfortunatley I didn't keep a very good log of the moves I made during the game because frankly, if I ever played this game again and I was the allies, I didn't want to have to face my own tactics. In that game I won in 15 turns but I could have won it a little quicker had I done a few things differently.

Good luck to both sides, and have fun.

Oh, and one last thing. There seems to be a weird bug where the allies can't move any units on the first turn, and some nations can't move their units on the second turn. I have found no way to fix this and you just have to deal with it.

Nice to see visitors motivated for giving advice !

@ Rcoutme, I will give a try to the Japanese replacing barbarians as first movers but if it does not I will stick to the current solution I used in "Zero" since it is the only way to avoid the Allied bug (mostly Dutch) Dogboy mentionned.
The issue with that is as you say Allies don't get to see the first turn (especialy rude for the US player !!!) but I am not sure in SP you can change production either (will check though) so the production continuation seems like a very light "bug" to me compared with the impossibility for the Dutch to move for two turns.

I agree with your assessment on the bugs. One other possibility would be to set the production of each city to something that will take >1 turn to build, that way the owning players could switch to anything they like.

Now, can you sort civs between you or do I randomize ?

I will take the Dutch so I won't interfere too much with my limited troops.

That leaves :

Japan

USA
Commonwealth
China

State your preferences !

At the moment Sir Ten Laft prefers Commonwealth.

Personally I think Eric_A could take the USA (strong but a bit far) so that the others can start practicing and Oblivion and Sega Fanatic take China and Japan (however they want it) but that is just a proposition.

So Sega Fanatic, do you feel up to the task of playing Japan or do you prefer to stick with the Allies ? That means Eric_A can play a devastating Japan... maybe ! ;-)

Hey LouLong, delete the last word "maybe" in your post above. Cause I'm pretty sure it would be a devasting Japan.

Given that Eric_A is taking Japan, I am going to share some unasked-for advice to the American player (and anyone else who is willing to listen). You do not need to build an airport in the cities in the US in order to airlift more units. You only need to create airstrips on forests.

The airstrip will not count for ferrying resources even if it is hooked up by road. However, you can airlift to and FROM an airstrip. In my game, I wanted to protect some of my outlying possesions (Manilla for one) and needed extra airlifting capability in the US mainland (note: you can airlift an infinite number of units TO a location, the limit of one only applies to WHERE you lift from) so I built airports in some of the continental cities that did not have them. This was a mistake. You can build a worker in one turn and turn it into an airstrip, which is immediately useable.

There are other significant consequences to this, but I'll let you figure that out for yourselves.

Good luck

Ok, I'm betting that the game will be over with in 16 turns or less. Anybody want to take me up on that?

You better hope that Eric_A doesn't take you up on that. He might be able to sway the results.

For that matter, so could Lou :mischief:

I think that is a very good idea.
I do that and send you the modified bix so as to avoid the Dutch waiting.

@ Rcoutme : what do you mean by "so could Lou" ? ???

@ Dogboy : I don't think I will accept the bet.... ;-)
