*** GAME DEAD ***

Hi, this is the thread for the new PBEM game I plan on starting.

this PBEM that I plan on launching as soon as full is a epic-like game.
But with some minor modifications :

1/ it will be a pangea, standard map with 7 civs only.
2/ only civs with medieval or Renaissance UUs will be accepted (Ottomans or Japanese but not Aztecs or Romans, nor Americans and Germans) this to have a certain balance and to use otherwise discarded civs. Civs with ships UUs will not be accepted either.
3/ each civ will start with 3 settlers, 2 workers, 2 warriors and 50 gold (to pay for the excess starting units).
4/ all warriors will have "enslave" abilities (new strategy + faster development)
5/ Accelerated production will be on.

Many of these factors should make the game run somewhat faster than standard PBEMs with faster meetings, exchange, development and research so that the Modern Times should be reachable before Civ4 ships in.

It is for Conquests, using the patch 1.22.
So you need to have both Conquests and the patch 1.22 installed on your computer.

Civs can be chosen, in case of similar preferences I will randomize the common civ.

7 civs : (the stock includes : China, India, France, Japan, Russia, Korea, Ottomans, Mongols, Arabs, Dutch, Vikings).

Players : 7

1. Loulong (Arabs)
2. Gnarfflinger (China)
3. Rcoutme (Korea)
4. MSTK (French)
5. Oblivion (Japanese)
6. Love Magiska (Russia) replaced by Yakodi
7. Greybeard (Mongols)

Cannot believe nobody took the Ottomans

You want to be in ? You have further questions ? Post in this thread or send me a PM. If ready to join, send me a PM with your e-mail.

Organization : the game will be called Pangea to be recognizable.
When you get the game, send a mail to inform the sender you got it, play it ASAP and send it ASAP so that the game moves fast between the 7 players.

You agree with the following :
1/ you must understand this is a long term project that needs commitment (you get the game, you play it and send it ASAP) so if you are not sure 200% you will keep playing it, better not to sign in (thus you show your respect to the other players).
2/ I f you must leave for a few days or if you must drop out, you will warn us in advance so we can wait or look for a replacement player.
3/ understand the way you play is not automatically the way others play (so accept these differences) and that this is a game that should not lead to Real Life troubles, rivalries between players.
4/ You don't use any cheats. I don't know where there are any but I have heard there are some. Use them in single gaming if you like but here it would definitely spoil the fun.

Beside that, only rule is to have fun ... and to win if possible.

Thanks for including me. After reading Ision's reviews, China and the Ottoman empire sound interesting. Also, the French sound like a Civ I could enjoy. I guess that makes my top three:

1. China
2. The Ottoman Empire
3. France.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

I am interested, however, I have rarely played Pangea maps. I do notice, however, that such maps are not always Pangea (there is often a lone civ on an island that is not connected). I would be willing to play, but would like you to make sure (via an intermediary if necessary) that the map is truly Pangea. (In other words, there may be some islands, but they are within sea range and no civ is left out in the middle of the ocean).

As for which civ to take, I have no idea as I have not played these types of maps. I notice that the Mongol UU is weaker than its counterpart, so that kind of sucks. The Indian UU is the same strength with one more hp, so that's not too great either. I have not tried the Koreans, so that might be fun.

How about giving me them, and I'll try the lethal bombard H'wacha or whatever it is. BTW, as most others, I certainly would not mind taking the Chinese or Ottomans. Also, the French with their 0-range bombard musketeers are nice. ;)

BTW, Lou, if you get a lot of responses, I wouldn't mind making the map for you instead and letting others play it.

@ rcoutme : I think I can ask someone to check the map to make sure no player will start isolated.

@ MSTK : welcome on board. Nice civ you picked ;-). Can I ask you what LUE means (your location) ? Is that the symbol of a country ?
Yes it is for Conquests, patch 1.22 (!!!).
For the trading, it will come fairly quickly and I will send a general e-mail to provide some hints for PBEM "beginners". And you can ask if you have any question during the game. Most diplomacy is conducted by mail (provided players have actually met in-game) and it is only the result, "physical" exchanges that are down within the game.

If there's still a free spot, I'm in. England for me =)
Oh, and thanks for the heads up LouLong :)

EDIT: Damn, no england. Well, I'll go for mother Russia then.

Ya, this is my first game too :)
Damn, I just realised people will go through the game looking at me as Catherine :( :p

@ Love Magiska : welcome on board ! And about the leader, well, imagine discussing with MSTK's shaved Joan in modern times, you see it could have been worst ! lol

@ MSTK : we will start when the roster is full (one more player). Then I set up the game and send an e-mail to everybody with infos, basic advice and procedures. When I get the confirmation from all of you I actually start by playing the first turn (as the host) and it should roll in.
Something else, please send me your e-mail ASAP by PM (don't post in the thread to avoid bots).

@ Gnarfflinger : e-mail. Sorry I erased your PM thinking I had already copied it in my addressbook but I was mistaken. Please resend it to me ASAP. And please accept my apologies for the inconvenience again...

Right, going to bed now.
Looking forward to starting this game tomorrow :) LouLong, how many turns is it usual to get in in a day? One? Two? More?

Although I am not Lou, I can tell you my experience from some of the pbems that I am in currently. It usually will not be more than 1 turn/2-5 days. The fewer the people, the easier the turnaround. However, since this will be 7 people from across the world, it will likely be closer to the 1 turn per 5 days than the 1/2days.

This occurs because most players have lives other than Civ3  , unlike me :crazyeye:

Anyways, what tends to happen is that emails with the games get sent to people who are already asleep. They, often, do not play them upon immediately waking, so the next person may have to wait 8 hrs before receiving their turn. This person may now be asleep (Gasp! Who needs sleep when there is Civ to play  but it does happen). Thus, if you get two people to play their respective turns in one 24-hour period, you are actually ahead of the pace that seems to occur in pbem.

OK, we are full. MSTK, no hurry, I needed to wake up first.

I will set it up so European players start then it is sent to the other side of the Atlantic. That means that North American Players should play it ASAP because there are 4 of them.

You will be receiving a "planning phase" e-mail soonish in your mail-box.
