... actually, I've been playing Civ since the very first days over ten years ago. :)

Sorry for the lame questions, but I am unable to find any previous threads wsith answers in the Forum archives.

Here's my questions:

1. I have C3C fully patched, on top of PTW (ugh) and CivIII. At some point, I lost my background music. When I play with my C3C disc in the drive, there's no music. I have sound, but nothing else. The music volume slider is all the way up. What's going wrong? I get victory music when I win a game, however. Just no in-game music.

2. Didn't CivII (maybe CivI) used to allow you to put in a music audio CD and have that play in the drive? Is there a way to enable that feature in CivIII, or do I need to run WinAMP in the background? I know there's .WAV or .MP3 files in a game folder, so why don't they play? Has anyone ever ripped the music from CivI to add to CivIII? I will try that if someone can help me get the music back on.

3. Is it just me, or do the new C3C Great Wonders never show up in 'City View' when they're built? I build the Temple of Zeus, and it's never shown in the city view. Is this just a glictch on my machine, or is this a Firaxis bug they've never addressed? I've never read a squeak about it in the forums, so I think it's my machine?

4. Someone please point me to the best archived thread for dummies that details how to install a MOD. I can just move my original files to a subfolder as a backup, and install the mod? Is it that easy with no other fiddling?

5. Anyone care to suggest the all around favorite MOD for C3C? I use Snoopy's terrain pack and the pastel watercolors pack, but who's got the best total conversion?

Please, if you would, reply to any or all of my questions. Thanks so much if you're able to help. :goodjob:

cant speak for the other questions, but my favourite mod is the Double your pleasure mod.

I think you could do 2) because CivII ran in a windows app, but since CivIII doesn't, you can't run two programs concurrently.

Welcome to CFC!

1. Are you sure you didn't uncheck game music in "Preferences?"

2. You should be able to run music in the background on some other music player (such as MUSICMATCH). You can alter the game to run other music as the background (rename the other to the names of the music that appears in your Sound folder and place them there).

3. Due to time constraints, Firaxis never made the art for the new Wonders for the City View, It isn't precisely a glitch, more of an intentional absence. Also note that the Sistine Chapel (sometimes) does not appear in the city-view on C3C, but I've never heard an adequate explanation as to why.

1. Yep. Click it on and off, and get no music. I keep the CAPS-LOCK key on to speed up time. Does that kill music? :mischief:

2. I think I'll try to RIP some audio from the old Civ CDs that I have to put into CivIII, or play through WinAMP or your suggested MUSICMATCH. Thanks for the tip.

3. Bah. Anyone working on a MOD to fix that? By the way, I have noticed that the Sistine Chapel often doesn't appear on the City View map. Funny you mention that.

Thanks for your replies.

3) does it really matter?

I can't help with your other questions, but this one: The City View is totally disabled in scenarios/mods with C3C. So, it wouldn't help even if anybody *did* do the necessary artwork....

Not quite. Firaxis said if someone, for free, did artwork with enough quality and then relinquished all rights to it, they might consider patching it into the main game :p

That's only partly true. It wasn't the actual artwork that was the bottleneck. Oh, the artists were right busy. The problem was that that screen has only so many slots hard-coded for City View items. To increase this would have taken programmers' time. The programmers were more than busy, so it was left out. Even if the artists would have made the artwork, it wouldn't run (without looking at the source, I think the Internet wiped the Chapel).

eh I know. I'm not expecting one :(

You can run any music program or any program you want while civ is running, just alt tab in between them. Start them up before you enter the game or use your windows key to open the start menu. I run music all the time when i play (god I hate the ancient music in game....)

Double Your Pleasure doesn't work with C3C. Someone I think figured out how to do it, but for the most part you can't just load it. If this isn't true, I'm going to be very pissed.....I haven't played DyP in quite a while.

There is a new version, Rise and Rule, that is supposed to be out sometime. I'm thinking about the same time that I win the lottery....

I read very positive things about DyP, but never actually played it.

If the designers would finish Rise and Rule for C3C in time, it might have a positive impact on Civ4, giving Fireaxis some new ideas and perhaps concepts and hints what people like, want... whatever, you probably got what I meant to say.

I like Player1's "patch suggestion" modification, myself. For graphics, I use [someone's] color-corrected terrain, with some other unrelated graphic changes. (Lush cities, weathered tundra forests, some muddy flood plains, different barb camps and goody huts).

Longasc, the people behind Rise and Rule (and DYP) have been active friends of Firaxis for years.
