This is Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), a 15th century prince from Wallachia in what is today Romania. He held his own against the Ottoman Turks and restored law and order to his country - after centuries of anarchy. His methods were rather cruel, but nonetheless effective.

He could serve as a leaderhead for Wallachia only, or (my preference), for the Dacians/Wallachians/Romanians. He has to be era-specific... :)

CivArmy, wanna try?

I'll second this! This would make a FINE leaderhead and a welcome addition!

is Wallachia the same as Transylvania, or is Transylvania contained within it?? I always thought Vlad the Impaler was connected to Transylvania....

Transsylvania is a different part of Romania. Vlad Tepes has always been wrongly connected with the legend of count Dracula...

I'd like to do this one too, but I'm finishing more 4 leaderheads to start make units. One of these 4 last leaderheads is the Afrikaner one :D The others are Abyssinian, Mapuche and Taiwan.
I can make it to you, but now know :(

I think TopGun just likes using the more exotic characters he never gets a chance to use otherwise... :p

Good list.

This would be a cool list for one of the most brutal men to grace the halls of power in that part of the world...

Transylvania and Wallachia are not the same, altho right next to one another. Together with the southern and western bits of Moldavia, they make up the modern Rumania.

As far as I know, ol' Vlad had no control over Transylvania, which in his day was under Hungarian suzerainty.

He was in excile in Transylvania I believe, and had alot of property and influence, but never ruled it..Wallachia was all his though. Moldavia was under his cousin's rule.

Those "southern and western bits of Moldavia" are generally known as Bessarabia, after the Bessarabs. A sizable population of German farmers were once brought there (by Catherine the Great, IIRC), and later migrated to the north-central U.S.

You say? In Swedish, Bessarabien refers to the northern and eastern bits; roughly the modern Moldova.

Bessarabia is most of what is currently called Moldavia between the Prut and Dniester. Agree? Northerly and easterly of this is Ukraine, southerly and westerly is Wallachia (or the rest of Rumania, if you will). I was saying that the south and west of Moldavia is Bessarabia... and you are saying that the north and east of Rumania is Bessarabia/Moldova. So we're saying the same thing.

As for Vlad Tepes, he hardly made empire. He was a gnat on the ass of the Hapsbourgs and the Ottomans, and we can thank Bram Stoker for resurrecting his sorrowful memory.

Except for maybe the Dacians in Ancient Times (and they were easily conquered by Rome), there never really has been an "empire" in what is now Romania. But, nevertheless, they have a very unique culture and defended their homelands (and thus Europe) from the Ottoman onslaught for the better part of 2 centuries. Vlad Tepes, cruel as he was, played a big part in that defense.

He looks like a cross between Luigi and Suliman the Great...

He'd be pretty good as a leaderhead I'd say..
