DPII's Unit Previews

A preliminary preview of the Carthaginian War Elephant... not the same as the Forest Elephant, but no less needed... could also be generic enough to be used by other Mediterranean civs...

Looks good, but very, very big, the box in particular.

I hope this picture is helpful.

It shows:

1) Firaxis' War Elephant
2) your Elephant Archer
3) your Elephant Archer after the fixes (look the shorter man!)
4) your new elephant archer
5) your new elephant archer after a 80% resizing

I LOVE the style of this unit; its got around the same leval of balence of 'realism Vs. Cartoonishness" as the standard civ units about, and enables to mix very well with them; I hoestlyl think that this is perhaps your best unit to date in the looks department :)

Thanks, everybody, for the feedback.

Rhye: Yeah, my previews are always bigger than the final product. As for the box in particular, I too was thinking it was a little big in comparison to the elephant, and I'm going to shrink it down a little.

i think you should make a generic horse archer without the elephant's cap, and then a Carthaginian variant with it. As it is it seems too Mediterranean specific.
BTW, do you know the Indian horses and African horses have differences? If you need some info, I can find some links with the descriptions

Eh, why are you talking about horses? It's elephants in this thread...
If you meant elephant instead of horse :dubious: , then the North African Elephant isn't the same as either the Indian or the African elephant, but a third now extinct species.

Third? Where have you been mrtn? The Mastadon and Mammoth were both Elephents, plus theres the American Elephent, according to DPII, so that makes FOUR...

Well.. the American elephant was a member of the Mastodon family. But Mastadons and Mammoths were both extinct by the time civilizations began to arise (well, almost ;) *cough*Atlantis*cough*)

it's obvious I meant elephants.

Well, there were Somalian Elephants (bigger, now extinct) and African forests elephants, too.
However Indian and generic African have some basic differences in the shape of the face and the legs, the ears and the skin

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Unfortunately, up until now, I've been stuck with the African Elephant since no enterprising, young go-getter in Poserland had decided to make an Indian Elephant model....

But now that I'm actually learning how to model, I've finished an Indian Elephant model made from the African Elephant....

So that's one less thing to worry about... the Carthaginian elephant will be the African variety, but my remade Indian units will have the Indian Elephant.

As for the generic one, I dunno yet what I should do... I'm considering maybe a mix of the two...

Btw, Rhye, check your PMs... ;)

The new one looks real 'fleshy' ;)
The quality of your units has recently gone up quite a notch, Dom Pedro :)

*flatter flatter* ;)

Anyways, most people don't see the differnence between african and indian elephents if it wasn't for the size and some minor minor details (at least how I see it)

Looks very good, are you doing more elephant units than this? It would be great with some "very" generic ones aswell. Oh, and I just love the old Elephant Archer, especially the armour, if you are going to remake it, in my opinion you should keep the armour.

Xen: I think all of DPII's units have their own appeal.

I never said they we'remt good, did I? I merelyl aid that i think this one is his best yet due to several reasons; and now that he learnign how to make models himself, i truelly cant wait to see some of his re-mastered works :D
