This is really just for those people who have bought PtW and then bought Conquests. If you play many games then you may find yourself juggling up to three CDs due to the copy protection.

Well, there is a way to get PtW and Conquests to work with a single CD (the Conquests CD) which may take some of the pain away.

You need to do things in a particular order (directories are the standard install directories):

  1. Copy the PtW extras folder (C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\extras) to a temp directory (e.g. C:\temp).
  2. Copy the PtW Scenarios folder (C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\Scenarios) to a temp directory.
  3. Un-install your Conquests patches.
  4. Un-install Conquests.
  5. Un-install your PtW patches.
  6. Un-install PtW.
  7. Install Conquests. This will give you PtW patched to 1.27f.
  8. Install Conquests patch 1.22.
  9. Copy the PtW Scenarios back in - choose to overwrite files.
  10. Copy the PtW extras folder back in - choose to overwrite files.

Now when you fire up PtW it will ask for the Conquests CD and not the PtW CD.

There's a simpler way.

Leave the installations as is.

When you install conquests, browse to the CD and find 'civilization3x.exe' on the cd.

Copy this to the PTW directory.

You can now use the C3C disc for PTW.

There won't be any more patches for PTW, but it might be a good idea to turn off the 'Read-Only' attribute.
