There isn't a country in the world other than the United States capable of conquering Europe, save through the use of nuclear weapons, which would defeat the purpose of occupying it (and leave the aggressor with a few hundred radioactive craters of its own).

But I would not doubt it for a second that European countries are pleased with the idea of another nation flipping the bill for added defense. Whether that added defense is necessary remains the question.

Why the US would want to dish out the dough to keep troops stationed in Europe is another question. But a close look south and south east of the continent provides enough of an answer.

Makes more sense to have the stick nearby when you want to wave it around.

All in all, when you got a couple of individuals like Bush, Cheney and Ashcroft who are religiously brainwashed, have less jugement then pre-school childs, had everything easy in life and are mad with power............ You cant always expect to get clear reasons of their behaviors!
They probably dont know exactly why they invaded Iraq in the first place...

All of you who are thinking about a US governement conspiracy or hidden reasons to go to war are giving way too much credit to those in power right now. They are not that wise

The scary part is, they're not idiots. They are intelligent people, especially Cheney. He is the most intelligent person in the election right now. Unfortunately, intelligence is not good if one intends to do bad with it.
