Rolling Stones - Prodigal Son
Well a poor boy took his father's bread and started down the road
Started down the road
Took all he had and started down the road
Going out in this world, where God only knows
And that'll be the way to get along

Well poor boy spent all he had, famine come in the land
Famine come in the land
Spent all he had and famine come in the land
Said, "I believe I'll go and hire me to some man"
And that'll be the way I'll get along

Well, man said, "I'll give you a job for to feed my swine
For to feed my swine
I'll give you a job for to feed my swine"
Boy stood there and hung his head and cried
`Cause that is no way to get along

Said, "I believe I'll ride, believe I'll go back home
Believe I'll go back home
Believe I'll ride, believe I'll go back home
Or down the road as far as I can go"
And that'll be the way to get along

Well, father said, "See my son coming home to me
Coming home to me"
Father ran and fell down on his knees
Said, "Sing and praise, Lord have mercy on me"
Mercy

Oh poor boy stood there, hung his head and cried
Hung his head and cried
Poor boy stood and hung his head and cried
Said, "Father will you look on me as a child?"
Yeah

Well father said, "Eldest son, kill the fatted calf,
Call the family round
Kill that calf and call the family round
My son was lost but now he is found
'Cause that's the way for us to get along"

obviously, a little bored at work today

We are Prodigal Son's, left our land and lives behind, to start anew, since we know best. We are tactless and broke (non-midas) in the beginning of this game until we meet the last civ, which, for this game, will be our Fatherland. Once we meet this civ, we can drop the non-midas trait. However, we must be tactless towards all other civ's and we must never declare war on the Fatherland civ. If the Fatherland civ declares on us, we must fight a strictly defensive war (cannot capture Fatherland cities). We reject all Fatherland flips as well.

Version: C3C 1.22f
Difficulty: Demigod
Civ: Iroquois
Landmass: Arch, 60% water
Barbs: Restless
Size: Standard, max opponents
The rest is random
1st Randomly generated start
SGL's and culturaly linked starts OFF

Definitions (thanks to Arathorn :) )
Tactless: You may never initiate diplomacy. If the AI initiates diplomacy, you must either reject or accept their offer. No haggling. No entering F4 screen to peek either.

For this game, this goes for all other civ's except the civ we meet last, which will be our Fatherland. We may trade and initial diplomacy as normal with this civ. We may not establish embassy's with any civ's other than the Fatherland.
During wars, we cannot make the initial peace offer. however, once the AI makes the 1st attempt, we are free to initiate thereafter. also, being tactless, i expect us to take all we can once peace is offered (ie, negociate terms heavily in our favor). this will allow for pointy stick research.
during peace times, we cannot, at any time, initiate negociations, even just to "check" on other's advancements/income. the AI comes to us and we either accept or reject.

Non-Midas: You are never allowed to end your turn with much gold in your treasury – 10 gold is the maximum allowed, but I won't be too much of a stickler. Just don't let it get over 15 or 20 ;)

Other general rules are that we do want our reputation to be intact (no deliberately spoiled deals, fake peace, etc.), no RoP rape, no scout resource denial, no ship chaining, generally no abusing the AI or game mechanics.
Note: I will allow resource disconnecting/reconnecting but without gold, it will be fairly useless early on.

Also, I request that players keep utilities that monitor diplomacy off. I'm not necessarily against them, but as tactless players, we should not be entering the diplomacy screen (F4) unless we want to talk to the Fatherland. Mapstat will reveal too much information. I have never used CivAssist, but if it does the same then that should be off too.

5 spots open :)

Any reason for choosing the Iro? I would be interested if this were an expanionistic civ, and what better prodigal son then America?
I am also a huge fan of the hittites.

"why chose iroqois" -> haven't played them in a very long time, that's all. i really should have just left it open since i don't have a preference for any particular civ. if others agree, then i can change it :)

Broke and prodigal, the story of my life, please, sir, may I have a home with you? I'll even slop the pigs.....

this is,without a doubt, probably over my head and skill level, but how else does one learn? If Bede will include definitions with his posts (and type slowly), I'll play.

ok admiral, your in. and your right, this will play harder than a normal demigod. but what's the fun if you always know your gonna win?

This one looks quite interesting, please sign me up. Looks like DD02 will have to wait a while (4 SGs is my limit)

After all it isn't often I find General Grahamiam, Admiral SirBugsy & the messanger from Mursilis, the Monk Bede in the same game.

I am open to giving it a shot. Thank you! For clarification, or in case I missed it, which engine are we using? Also, what is the intended pace? With 6 it shouldn't be too fast, but I can't take another quick one right now. I liked the Iro's in PTW, and know that they have changed in C3C, but do not know how so.

With SGL's it has to be C3C.

The Iroquois had the biggest shift in traits from PTW to C3C, going from Expansionist/Religious to Commercial/Agricultural, but still has that powerful UU, the Mounted Warrior (3-1-2).

I would think moving 1 SE and settling on the river would be the opening move. There is probably coastline to the NW, which would be a good 2nd city site. I would suggest going for writing as the opening tech at the max our ecomony can stand (fits well with non-Midas). We've got a headstart on getting to the Philosophy bonus and either Republic or Literature would be beneficial. Without being able to trade much, the Great Library would help out quite a bit.

Let's get a warrior or two out scouting then a settler and maybe a granary.

yes, sorry, this is C3C. i'll amend and update the roster. thanks for joining :)

edit: bugs isn't signed up yet ;) also, please go thru the restrictions carefully. i expect this to play closer to diety than demigod, especially in the early, non-midas, turns.

i like 24hrs got it, 72hrs play it. if you need more time, let us know. we can either extend or swap, whatever's desired.

1st player gets 20t, 10t the rest of the way.

welcome aboard, m60! good to see you again. i'll close the roster now but if bugs wants in, we can expand to 7 as this will take care of skips/swaps etc that we'll need around thanksgiving, etc. :)

sorry romeo, looks like there's enough people who what the iroquois. see you in another, eh? :)

if we're ok with the order, then bede can start us off!

I can't disagree with this, and was also thinking 1SE to start, which I would not mind doing if no one else wants it. I like the sound of the variants, although non-midas will be a challenge. How do you disband money?

x-post on the start. Go for it Brother Bede!

Very good. FWIW I agree with Denyd's last comments. We have at least 5 BGs in the area once Salamanca expands presuming Bede goes 1SE
