Defiant: You must never give in to a demand from an opponent, that is, you always reject demands for tribute. You may never ally, sign a Right of Passage, MPP, or embargo with another civilization. You may never pay for peace (a peace treaty must either be straight-up or the opponent gives a concession to you. A deal where a tech costs 20 gpt normally and you pay 10 gpt for that tech as part of a peace treaty is fine). Any troops on your soil must be given a boot order every turn. No capturing foreign cities or demanding them in diplomacy. No foreign workers merged into existing cities. If an AI razes one of your cities, that civ must be eliminated.
And Barbaric, no culture besides small wonders.
Added requirement, no representitive governments (small requirement though.)
Rolled a few starts, but most resembled the steppes, Himalayas, or north Siberia. Here was a good one, but I can roll more if desired:

Roster:
viper275
DocTsiolkovski
el filet
Admiral Kutzov
plarq
LulThyme
BACKUP PLAYER-romeothemonk

Edit: Forgot to post basics. 24/48 good, swaps are OK if needed.

reporting in. nice start. :) Worker to the cow. Scout to the mountain. Build in place if nothing shows up.

i'd move the scout first, but it seems unlike it will change anything.

hey doc, you're sure you wanna play a starting position containing food? there seems to be none of the tundra you seem to like so much... :D

I would love to fill in as your open/backup player. I just finished a DG game on a huge pangea as the Mongols. The Keshik is a very solid UU.

I will be the back up player and you can let LulThyme play.

Okay, LulThyme and plarq are in, romeothemonk is backup. Agree with AK's moves. Should I go first or should we change the roster (I would not mind.)

I suppose I'll go first then.

1
Opening moves as AK described. Settler 1 SW.
2
Karakorum founded, Ceremonial Burial from a hut. Science to 20%, Bronze Working in 50 (tough call, but it would be 30 at 100% and I figured I'd get some cash now, then turn up research when we have enough money to fuel it.)
7
Contact Egypt. We're up WC and Pottery, they have Masonry. They want both, so no deals. Lux to 10%.
11
Contact Germany. They're up BW and have 35 gold, we're up Pottery and CB, so I trade all my techs for Bronze Working and 35 gold.
12
Lux to 30%. Oh, and I forgot, Iron Working at minimum again.
13
Get gold from a hut.
17
Lux to 40%.

Got to build a warrior for MP at Karakorum, otherwise we'd be running lux at 60% or so when it's building settlers. It's got a granary. Germany is up Mysticism and The Wheel, Egypt up Masonry but we still are up Pottery and CB for them. Research not worth pursuing ATM, same amount of time 10%-40% but we get cash at 10%.
Hope I didn't mess up.

About research and Huts: You always get the cheapest tech you're not researching. Guess we got CB with founding the city, so nothing we could do about that; BW is the next cheapest, so that was fine. But IW...I'm not opposed to get that one from a hut ;).
A good path for us is blocking Alpha; we won't build any wonder, and if alpha is blocked, we may get Monarchy from a hut (after the 1st tiers, IW and Myst).

Got it.

Btw, here's the pic:

Yikes, Ivory! All of them, I suppose. Too bad .

Mongols, 3000BC.

:rotfl:

We’re defiant. We’re sitting next to the most aggressive Civ in the game. They have a Spear 2 tiles away from our capital. We have zero military, and a Granary, no Barracks.

Viper, if we survive the next 30 turns, you owe the RNG something

Inherited:
Switch build to Archer. We don’t need cheap MPs, we need Archers (important: Archers count more for the Military Advisor than Spears, making demands less likely!).

Something about preferences:
Unit animations/sounds are a matter of taste. ‘Always renegotiate Deals’ should be off, same as both ‘Cancel Orders for…units’, and ‘Build previous unit’.

IBT:
Otto wants…us to leave; sure.

Turn 1: 2950
Warrior Code, Pottery and 125gp to Egypt for Masonry, they’ll meet the Germans soon anyway.

Turn 2: 2900
Zzz..
IBT:
Archer->Settler

Turn 3: 2850
Move the Archer towards the hut in the N, will beat the German Spear.

Turn 4: 2800
Bah, Maps (more Wines to the NW). Switch Karakorum back to Settler in 3.

Turn 5: 2750
Zzzz…

Turn 6: 2710
Zzzz..
IBT:
Settler->Barracks
German Spear enters our land!

Turn 7: 2670
Give the boot order; Otto apologizes and promises to leave. Decide to settle towards the Ivory first; while we won’t be able to build the SoZ, we surely don’t want the Germans to do so.
IBT:
That darned Spear dares to keep violating our borders!

Turn 8: 2630
Ask again to leave, still no declare option.
IBT:
Spear leaves. Phew.
Egypt learns The Wheel.

Turn 9: 2590
Still no deal available.
IBT:
Karakorum Barracks-> Archer.

Turn 10: 2550
Meet Celts, they also have The Wheel. Get it for Masonry and 23gp. No Horses in sight! Germans have :(
Ouch, notice Germany’s second city is called ‘Wien’; so we won’t get a HoF entry for this game.

Turn 11: 2510
Found Samarkand next to the Wheat. Barracks.

Turn 12: 2470
Zzz..
IBT:
Kara Archer->Settler.

Turn 13: 2430
Zzzz…
Egypt and Celts learn Alphabet.

Turn 14: 2390
Zzzz…

Turn 15: 2350
Find Horses in reach.

Dotmap:
IMHO we should settle on the Wines. One of those would be wasted anyway, and the first ring cities will benefit from the capital’s culture expansion. Next to the Horses, and right in the middle of the Ivory.

In case of a doubt, always build Archers; they make us looking stronger.

So THAT is why I never get HOF entries. I modified the city lists b/c I got tired of "New Karakorum 2" stuff, didn't know that affected HOF. Took that out now, will it still be affected?

Agree getting Ivory and building SoZ is a big priority. Good thing there are Horses.

El filet is up and Admiral Kutzov is on deck.

Always renegotiate Deals’ should be off

@ DocT - why on the above?

Agree getting Ivory and building SoZ is a big priority

@viper - gentle reminder, no big wonders 'because of the kulture.

DocT's settlement order sounds good. Skim another scout or 2 somewhere? Not sure how many are out at this time.

help out an old guy, are the barbs restless?

If you somehow modify the biq file, even if you fix something wrong (for example, the game occasionally messes up the team colors in Middle Ages), no HoF.

Renego deals: Sometimes you don't want to renegatiate a peace treaty - either you're not ready to go to war now but don't want to wait another 20 turns, or the other Civ has become stronger, so you will have to pay. Trade deals would be fine, but that also affects peace treaties.
